24 Tea Time

A whistling of the kettle can be heard a yard away,
It signals the beginning of the only time I like.
Among the time for breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday,
Lies the most special moment, pegged down with a pike.

Strictly between two and three o’clock each day,
We gather under the marquee for tea time hooray!
For it is a grace period between lunch and supper.
Where food eaten is unaccounted for.

Sandwiches, cakes and biscuits,
Different flavours of tea.
Masala, Rooibos, Ceylon, Ginger, perhaps you’d like a bit of red chilli too?
Possibilities are endless, cranberries, orange, peach and camomile, lemon and bergamot, black tea and red tea, green tea and white tea...

Name your colour and flavour, pick your snack time treat,
dip if you must,
For its tea time now.

That’s one Earl Grey for me and a drop of lemon, please.
No cucumber and very little cheese.

See you at the next teatime.
