What You Don't See (From the perspective of a Mirror)
This was an assignment for the poetry club at my school. I'm glad we have one am excited to see how it goes. The prompt was from the perspective of a non-animate object.
I can see you
You can see me
You can see yourself in me
I see all of your flaws
Your small nose
Your huge forehead
Your crooked eyes
Your pimples
Blackheads
Zits
All of them
Your wild hair in the morning
I see when you brush your teeth
And when you forget to do so
I see how you decide what to wear
I watch the displeasure
In your eyes when you think
You look gross
I watch the displeasure
In your eyes
When your makeup
Doesn't come out right
I see how you try to squish your problems areas
And I see when
You sometimes look at yourself in me
And you cry
Sometimes you cry
Because you think
You're not good enough
But if I could talk
I would tell you
Don't cry!
Wipe your tears!
Because I think you're beautiful
I think that you are perfect
And I don't care what anyone else may think
I don't care what they say
You're beautiful
And perfect
If I weren't a mirror
I would tell you exactly that
