This is the first slam poem I have ever written. I wrote it in

my poetry class not too long ago. We had a small poetry slam

and I read mine and people loved it.

     Failure

     Is a mindset

     It's what people think of themselves

     When they make a mistake

     When they think they've done something wrong

     When they aren't happy with their test grade

     When they get rejected

     After finally

     Getting the courage

     To ask their crush

     To the dance

     I know people

     Who think they're a failure

     Just for living

     Just for waking up every day

     Just for trying

     There are too many people

     Who feel this way

     Failure

     Is a mindset

     But it doesn't have to be

     A lifestyle

     It's that little voice in your head

     That is supposed to be your conscience

     It's that little voice in your head

     That tries to tell you

     Wrong!

     You're doing it wrong!

     You're doing it wrong!

     But look for that voice in your head

     That tells you

     Right!

     This is right

     You're doing it right

     Because you're doing your best

     And your best is right

     Failure

     Is a mindset

     It tries

     To ruin your life

     To ruin it all

     But this is your life

     Not somebody else's

     And guess what?

     It's the only life

     You're gonna get

     So make it yours

     Don't let it be controlled

     By failure
