If everyone wrote a poem
On this very special day
Even tho it's evening where I am
And I forgot to write away
Write one poem a day , for a while
A month, maybe a year
Until I hit another block
And away from poetry I disappear
But if I don't write at least something
And starting on this special occasion
Called world poetry day
And I only just remembered
What If everyone contributed
What if everyone cared
To write a poem today, although
It might be hard to bear
A block as big as one for those who write
Too many troubled times and sleepless nights
Scared and stupid we have all become
We might as well be dumbed down like our children
Has creativity become a fault
A freaky flaw, a reason to assault
Those who've written to change the world
Without realizing their past, a terrible sort
And it's just one day, if just for today
Everyone speaks their minds
In poetry or prose it's all the same
Then this world wouldn't be so unkind
We'd listen and understand
We'd connect rather than cross
The barriers that separate ourselves
And together repair all that was lost
So let everyone write a poem
At least once, if just for today
In the life of a poet, everyone knows it
After all it's world poetry day
Time to write time for change
