A Poem to Start All Poems
I guess to start a poem
You'd have to end another
Much like to clear your mind
Before you make a move on the board
But to make a move
You have to understand the game...
A poem is much like a Sword
An extension of the arm
Equal to an extension of the tongue,
A weapon to thrust at the dark
With swift nimble motion
A double edged sword on bark
With two faces to the same notion
A tool to carve your name
To etch it into the minds
Of all whom have seen
Once you know the game
You have to study the board
Your field of battle and compromise
A place to only move forward
The playing field is a place
Where Red could mean Red
But Red could mean Blue
A place where not everything
Stays the same
A place where not everyone
Speaks the truth
The longer you walk in it
The longer it engulfs you
The closer it gets
To a beating heart
The closer you come
To a sound mind
The closer we stand
To a hidden straight
The longer you stare it in the face,
The deeper into its soul you can trace
And now that you know the name of the game...
And now that you know the board by its color...
Its time you know the piece you play:
You
So pick up your sword and your silver tongue
Step on the board, there's a show to run
Keep a level head, you'll make it through
As long as we are here, the limelights on you.
