7. Alone - A Free Verse
Pretentious.
Aren't we all pretentious
We're scared of our independence
And daunted by the reality
So we seek solace- or so we try
A pair of eyes, a hand to hold
A shoulder to rest our head upon.
Defying nature's rules- a support.
Try to block out the bitter truth
That all these relations we spend our lives on-
They're just Transactions.
Respect, love, friendship
It's all give and take.
Work harder and harder to salvage what's left of our fantasy
And fall deeper and deeper into that
Which we're trying to escape from-
In a frantic search for support.
But at the end of the day
When we're sitting in the dark
Just staring at each other's blank faces
Somewhere deep inside, we know the truth
That it's just us- Alone
With our backs against the wall,
Fighting the world.
The one who is invincible
Is the one who knows he stands alone.
