Misunderstood

People take one glance at her
and label her a troublemaker,
a bad person,
a liar,
a bitch,
a terrible friend,
an even worse daughter.
She's already labelled before even given the chance.
They think she's a monster
without even knowing her.
Would they think any differently if they knew about her past? About all she had gone through?
Would they finally see the scars that reach to the depths of her soul? The scars that ruined her and tarnished that innocent, happy girl she once was?
Would they see her differently if they knew she stayed awake at night
thinking about the incident a few years back
when a friend took her innocence.
Would they see her differently if they knew that she had been through so much,
but still didn't ever tell anyone because she didn't want to be a bother.
If they knew about her struggles with mental health, the substance abuse,
the abuse.
But no.
They don't want to know about that,
because that is too messy for them.
They don't want to believe that she was the victim,
because that wouldn't be a good move for their story where they label her as the villain.
How strange,
for now I understand the villains in the movies.
Maybe they're not villains at all,
maybe they were just labelled that by the people who misunderstood them the most.
