Into The Clouds You Go

I watch as your pain fades
and you take one last breath.
It feels like my heart has stopped as well,
but somehow,
my heart continues to beat without you;
something that I didn't know was possible.
Your pain is finally gone
and you are finally at peace.
You deserve peace.
Your eyes are empty,
and eventually
I realise that you're no longer in there.
I'm staring at your shell
which used to be the home to your soul.
You truly are gone,
and although I'm falling apart without you
and I'm shaking with sobs
and everything is dark
and I've never felt so lonely,
I smile.
I smile
because I know that you are happy somewhere.
Somewhere peaceful and bright
where there is no pain or anger.
It's simply peaceful.
I look up at the clouds,
hoping you're up there somewhere,
looking down at me,
smiling.
I hope I make you proud.
I hope I see you again, one day.
