Abandoned

I always said
that if you were ever to abandon me
and walk away from my life,
I wouldn't care.
You put me through so much and hurt me day by day
to the point where I began to despise you,
to the point where I simply no longer cared about you.
And then it happened.
You left.
You didn't even give me an explanation.
You just...left.
I waited for a phone call,
a text,
an apology,
but it turns out that you hated me just as much as I hated you.
You didn't want me back in your life,
you were done with trying to prove that you were a good parent.
I realised that
that's all I was to you.
A trophy to show off to everyone,
to lie and say that you were a good parent,
that you had stuck around.
You gave up in the end.
You had enough.
Because I wasn't enough.
It's strange,
because although I always said I wouldn't care if you left,
part of me actually does.
