Sunburn
I was in year 4 when I first got sunburnt.
It's curious how we call it that; burning.
As if the gentle embrace of summer scorched lines of love with a spiteful iron.
It never meant to hurt us.
I cried and ran to my mother, she told me "it's your own fault."
As if a warm embrace from spring grass to summer sun depended on my capability - of course it didn't.
She held that bottle with a cold iron grip
A blip
Winter in a persons disguise.
My brother was more forgiving. He chucked me a bottle of aftersun and laughed.
He said "you'll need this"
My god I needed it. You see our dance of flame sent uv hugs flying into tender skin.
The trees around us shifted colours from the lime we had familiarised to a bottle of new beginnings - I no longer saw a threat but a person in my brothers eyes.
Sunburn hurt.
That aftersun worked
Autumn in a persons disguise.
