"He's coming home."  she cried with joy
she longed to see her little boy
24 months, her longest years
and the ones filled with the most tears
but soon all the heartache would end
and time with her sweet boy she'd spend
weeks turned to days, days to seconds
then, finally, she was beckoned
she saw his face and cried again
she remembered how long it'd been
he looked so grown, in uniform
seeing him made her heart feel warm
"Welcome home," hugging him, she said
she smiled and she kissed his head
"I've missed you," tears dripped from his face
she held closer to his embrace
"I didn't know when I'd see you."
he said, wiping away the blue
"I didn't think it'd be this soon."
as he remembered the last moon
the light it shown down on the field
and the light their guns soon would wield
the loud barrage of fireworks
against the dark figures that lurked
a shock tearing through his body
a split second hurting awfully
when the noises began to drown
as his captain shouted, "man down!"
seconds later he stood before
the mom he had lost to stage four
joy overwhelmed his fragile mind
as he left all his pain behind
he had missed her more than ever
this was worth every endeavor
and he felt more joy than he'd known
right when she told him "Welcome home"
