Wings cannot work if they’re broken,

Bleeding,

Bruised.

You cannot fly if the same people trying to lift you up,

Are the ones standing on those very same wings.

People always say the sky is the limit,

But then they break you,

Bend you,

Twist you

So you can fit in a box.

A caged person destroyed into believing flight is a myth.

That there is no sky beyond the bars that hold them back,

Refusing to let their wings stretch out and soar.

Refusing to let them feel the kiss of the sun,

Or the caress of the stars.

And some who do break the bars,

Get scared of the fall,

 Not believing their broken wings will catch them.

But they will.

And all of those trapped in their cages,

Or standing on the edge,

Will look up in envy,

Watching you surf the very skies that used to mock you.

So don’t be afraid to fall,

For it will make you fly.
