Iago and Veronika's Ending

~Iago's POV~

I gazed at our target from a distance. It had been ten minutes since we split up, she should be in position by now. With that, I crept towards the target, unbeknownst of what is about to happen.
Before we had left we were given a briefing of the mission, and while I wasn't listening for most of it, there were a few things I can recall. He wasn't a strong POE at all. Though he had the potential to be if he learned how to better control his powers. In retrospect I don't even see the need to go so far out of our way to take him out, since we will cleanse the world before he even gets the chance to scratch the surface of his powers. But its anything for the cause, and if his death is what the Commander wants, death is what he shall get.
I remember reading this guy's file, and everything about him was average. He has short brown hair, brown eyes, and an average height of five feet, ten inches. He dropped out of school to help support his family, and it wasn't until recently that his power began to develop. He had the ability to duplicate himself. The Commander said that in the wrong hands he could be very dangerous, so we needed to take him out ASAP. That is why Veronika and I are here. To do just that.
Once upon a time it would have been Diego and I on this mission, and not Veronika. Though ever since he grew a conscious and lost sight of the end goal he has been distracted. I have done all I could to steer him back on track. To try and remind him of all of the things the others have done to us. To show him why we are here, doing the things we are. Yet at my every attempt he only further pushes me away. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if he has deserted the cause while I have been gone on this mission. Its no bother though, the Commander has no room for weaklings in his regime.
The mission itself was easy, find and eliminate the target. Yet even so there have been a few... Complications along the way. The first one being the imbecile of a pilot dropped us off at the wrong city base. And this is no, whoops I dropped you off at the one right next to it. No, instead we were left to fend for ourselves in the Hong Kong city base, when we should have been in the London one. I mean c'mon, LONDON, how can one be so stupid to mess up your only job that bad. It blows my mind how he was even recruited to our cause, let along still alive given the obvious mistake he has made. All I know is that the minute we get back from this godforsaken mission I am going to kill him. Not to mention that was only the first problem we came across. After weeks of work to get our hands on a plane and fly to the London city base we found that he wasn't even there. As it turns out he completely abandoned civilization and left the city base to further explore his powers. So after that we were left to track him down in the wild. Months later we found his little make shift house where he had been staying at, only to find he had become much more of a nuisance than we had originally planned. This being because he had been able to expand his powers in the months it took to actually track him down.
Once we had arrived at his make shift house, which was honestly more like a hut, and set up our stake out, we noticed, or more like I noticed that there was a lot of mental activity for only one person. It wasn't until he left the hut that we figured out he, was more like a they. Right before our eyes we saw two, three, four of them at least exit the hut. In an almost perfect harmony one left with a makeshift bow and some arrows to hunt for what I can only imagine would be their dinner. Another went off with a bucket to go fetch some water. Two more got in position and began to spar in hand to hand combat. And approximately ten minutes later and additional four came back from the woods carrying multiple logs which they then used to expand the hut.
It was at that moment Veronika and I realized this was going to be a lot harder than we had initially thought. We had expected to only take on him, and at most one weak duplicate. Which we thought would be child's play considering we have had to do much worse. Though the two of us knew that this would be much different. Not only were we horribly out numbered, but this annoying son of a gun also had home court advantage. We had no idea what the lay of the land was like, much less how we would ever be able to complete the mission if any of them were able to get away.
So for the next two weeks we continued to hide out and observe our target. We figured out what his schedule was, as well as how he would fight from watching him spar with another duplicate. After that we came up with a plan. Divide and conquer. We would each kill some of the duplicates ourselves , then take out the rest of them together. We had decided that Veronika would take out the two duplicates that left camp to collect water and food. While I would take out the four on the way back from collecting resources for the house. Then after that we would reconvene and finish off the two still at the camp sparring.
The next day we put our plan into motion. I hid myself in a tree about waited about half a mile away from the camp for the four duplicates on their way back from scavenging for items. It took only about ten minutes before we crossed paths, and I actually heard them before I even saw where they were. Then, as soon as I located them I dropped from my hiding spot and began to fight the duplicates. Taking out the first two was easy, considering I had taken them by surprise and killed them before they knew what had hit them. After that I was forced into hand to hand combat with the last two. Though this as well was easy considering I knew their every move. It was mere minutes before I had also killed them, and with that piled the bodies together and set them aflame. That way there would be no evidence left behind. Afterwards I made my way back to the camp to wait for Veronika. Not long after she came up beside me, with what I noticed was a bloody nose and a limp in her left leg. She had told me on the way back she tripped over a tree root, but she couldn't fool me. I knew that the two duplicates she took on did a little damage before she was able to drop them.
After we composed ourselves from our separate fights we made our way around the camp to where the snuck up on the last of our targets. I had expected this to also be fairly easy, considering we had already been able to take out the other duplicates. Well that was until I stepped on a twig and alerted them of our presence. I thought that they would whip around, see us, and run away. It turned out that they were so engrossed in their fighting they they didn't even hear my mistake. It was this, that would be their downfall. Veronika and I easily lessened the distance between ourselves and the target, and with one final glance at each other, killed them. Although our mission was still not over, for we still had to make sure we left behind no trace that we were ever here. We wordlessly moved the bodies into the hut, and like the all other missions, set fire to the last piece of what this mans life was, destroying all of the evidence.
