71- Future
Never thought I would get to see the childish side of Rehaan.
The amount of times I had to throw him out of the kitchen was just...phew😪
Either he wanted to drink water, eat some fruit, arrange the items in the fridge or suddenly wanted to clean the cabinets. The list was endless.
I was tired of pushing him away or scolding him, but that relentless idiot kept on coming by making one or the other excuse just to peep at what I was making.
Although I looked exasperated with his antics, I was secretly enjoying all this.
I craned my neck to see what he was doing, when he didn't come back. I was almost done cooking, and the smell of the food was at its peak. To not come now, after doing so much earlier...I frowned at his odd behaviour.
Did he run out of excuses?
I chuckled at my thought. Switching the gas to a low flame, I moved out of the kitchen to look for him. Stealthily...of course.
I yawned while stretching my arms, making it look like I came out for a breather.
"Don't," he shouted from the other side of the living room, making me jump in fright.
Placing my hand on my rapidly beating heart, I looked at him wide eyed.
What did I do?
He looked at me sheepishly, apologizing for startling me, before he explained the reason for his randomness. "I just mopped there. The floor must be wet, you might slip."
He mopped...
It was then I noticed the mop in his hands. How did I miss that long mop at first was a question in itself.
"Umm...why...?" I trailed off, not understanding his sudden urge to clean.
Cleaning the living room couldn't even count as an excuse to get into the kitchen.
"What why?" He questioned back, as if the answer was obvious. "I am just doing my work."
"Huh?"
Seeing that I was still confused, he sighed, shaking his head at me. "My work as a housekeeper. Cleaning comes under it, doesn't it?" He looked at me as if I was stupid to not understand the obvious.
I narrowed my eyes at him, before deadpanning, "I told you to start from tomorrow."
To be honest, I would be still in the same shock as now if he did this tomorrow.
But no one needs to tell him that. Sshh 🤫
"Yeah, but that got null and void when you gave the order for celebration." He raised his shoulders, as if to say he can't do anything about it.
Smartass.
"Whatever. Clean as much as you want, while I will enjoy my feast," I said, tilting my head towards the kitchen, before walking backwards towards it.
The look on his face was so worth it. Mwahahaha!
I started taking out everything at the dining table. As expected, he was trying to glance at the food, the mop, long forgotten.
I made my plate, feeling like a king for having some many delicacies at once. Before taking a bite, I looked up and saw him looking at the food longingly.
Finally taking pity on him, I ushered him here. In a blink of an eye, he was here. I did a double take. I looked at him and then to the spot he was standing before, not understanding what just happened.
Did he just teleport?
I did this two-three times just to be sure, before chucking it out as the power of food.
"You aren't sitting..." I raised my eyebrows at the still standing figure in front of me. I thought he would have started devouring by now.
"You made my plate," he asked, his voice full of surprise. "Already...how?"
I rolled my eyes, "Did you really think I was going to eat all this alone?"
"Prankster." He huffed, but a smile soon came to his face.
He sat down, rubbing his hands in excitement, before diving into the world of bliss.
None of us said anything for a while, just enjoying what was in front of us. The silence wasn't uncomfortable, rather it felt serene. Especially, when most of our current meals were filled with discussions, suspicions, and solving riddles.
The best part, I could admire Rehaan's face in peace.
The guy was oblivious to my staring, too busy gobbling down his favourite food.
"Slowly, it's not going to vanish," I said, after he choked after eating too fast.
"Who knows when we will get to celebrate again," he said, after calming down.
"So now you want to celebrate." I raised an eyebrow at him, while he smiled sheepishly at me.
"For a future note, don't ever bother with surprises."
"Did I...did I do something wrong?"
I thought he was happy.
"No, no, you took it in the wrong way," he said, shaking his palms rapidly, as if to swat away the wrong notion. "I was saying you don't need to do anything else. Just making this food would be enough for me, not even enough. It would be the best. For any kind of celebration, just cook for me. That's what I was saying."
"Oh!"
"Yeah," he sighed, the panic leaving his body after having explained it all.
"Future note," I mumbled to myself happily, remembering the words that were lost in panic.
A future...with each other.
