61- Married?
What should I do? What should I do?
"Where are you going?" Ananya Di hissed, pulling me back as I tried to get out of the bedroom. "You were the one, who said going down was dangerous and now you—"
Shrugging her hand off, I said, "It is still dangerous and the idea is still stupid. I agree, but I can't let him act stupid alone."
Rehaan is going to be the death of me.
"At least he won't die alone this way and leave me in guilt." Giving one last assurance to myself, I took a deep breath and left the house, not before reminding Di to lock the door behind me.
My heart thudded the entire time I was in the lift thinking about what all could go wrong.
"What the fuck was this man thinking?" I screamed internally, before rushing out as soon as the doors opened.
There I found the culprit behind my upcoming heart attack chatting with the watchman.
Rehaan was probably inquiring about the goons smartly, but still...Chatting.
And the watchman-where the hell was he when the goons entered the compound? Was he even there when I came down with Ananya Di? Ah! Seriously. And here we sleep peacefully in our house thinking he is keeping a keen watch over the building.
Rehaan's house, not ours.
"What's wrong with me?" I whisper yelled to myself, shocked by my own self.
'First Rehaan, then the watchman, now me, I think something's wrong with the entire universe.'
Today is an ominous day for sure.
Rehaan's eyes widened as soon as he saw me. He half jogged towards me, leaving the watchman's side.
"Why are you here? I told you to stay home," he whisper-yelled, clutching my elbow.
I shrugged, making up a response in the air. "Weren't you the one who said we were a team?"
"And who was the one who said that there was no way we could work as a team?" He raised his eyebrows, his hand leaving my elbow.
"Touché."
That was my brilliant response.
"Having troubles already," the watchman said, before Rehaan could rebuke me.
We both turned towards him, our eyebrows raised in confusion with his sudden comment.
"Just how many days has it been since you got married that you have already started fighting?" The watchman laughed.
"Ma...married?" I stuttered, my eyes wide with bafflement. Rehaan's expression mirroring mine.
"Just because you didn't invite us, doesn't mean we won't find out," the watchman said, wiggling his eyebrows. "You haven't been going home these days. Your neighbour even confirmed."
If you share a house, you are married. Great logic!
"Yeah, we just had a court marriage. So we couldn't invite anybody," Rehaan said.
My head snapped towards him with a jerk. I blinked several times, not sure if I heard correctly.
What in the world was he speaking about?
"Congratulations!" Watchman uncle congratulated us heartily.
Saying thanks to him, Rehaan clasped my hand and pulled me a little away from the watchman, towards the emergency staircase.
"What the—"
Rehaan palmed my mouth, before whispering, "Sshh, don't shout. He will hear you."
I poked the hand that was over my mouth, hinting him to remove it, before bursting out in anger, albeit in a low voice. "What the fuck were you sprouting there?"
"He assumed everything on his own. Let's just go with it. Who cares?" Rehaan shrugged nonchalantly.
I stood there with my mouth hung open.
"Did you forget the drama that was created when I just went along with their 'assumptions' last time?"
How much grief he had given me for acting like his girlfriend. But now he wanted me to act like his wife.
"I am sorry that I didn't explain the entire situation to him properly. After we have dealt with the goon situation, I will tell him all about who you are to me, and why we are sharing the house. I will inform everything to him. Heck, I will inform the entire building about the truth after we get out of the situation. If we come out alive, that is."
"You are being sarcastic, aren't you?" I asked, oddly feeling reprimanded, even though he hadn't scolded me.
"This topic isn't important right now. We have more pressing matters to work on," he said, as if explaining to a child.
I pouted at his actions. "Why is my lie a horrendous crime but yours is just a tool to get out of a stupid situation?"
Rehaan sighed, probably having given up all hopes on me.
"Does this lie affect the watchman in any way or form? Whether we are married or not, does it really matter to him other than having a fill of gossip?" Rehaan asked, raising one eyebrow at me.
"Oh!"
"Oh?"
"My lie affected you, yours doesn't affect anyone," I said, letting him know that my small pea sized brain understood.
Rehaan puffed out some air from his mouth, before muttering, "Finally," under his breath.
"Now go back. I will go and see if I can find some similar faces."
"Don't even try," I deadpanned, before snorting. "I didn't come, to go back alone."
"Muskaan please—"
"Either come back with me or we go to the minefield together." I stared at him fiercely, letting him know that I wasn't going to back down.
"Fine." He exhaled harshly. "Don't go home. But you aren't coming out either."
Just when I thought he understood 🤦🏻.
"Rehaan, I am no damsel in distress. I can—"
"I know," he cut me off. "I know you are strong enough to hold your own. That's why I am keeping you here as my back up."
"Back up?"
"Yeah, we don't know how many are there or what weapons they are carrying. It would help none of us if we both get blindsided. You can come save me if something happens."
"You are just gas lighting me into staying back, aren't you?"
Rehaan let out a small chuckle, instead of responding to my question.
Caught you!
Seeing my narrowed eyes, Rehaan scratched the back of his head. "I won't be able to focus if you are there. I will keep worrying about you. Especially, when it is more likely that they are after you and not me."
"But—"
Rehaan held my shoulders, stopping all my protests.
"I am not going to fight with them. I will just secretly see them and come back. That's it." He looked into my eyes and promised me sincerely.
"What if they notice you and attack?" I asked, my concerns still brimming despite his promise.
"Then you come barreling down to attack my attackers," Rehaan said, like it was a simple task.
"For now, wait here. Call the police after 5-10 minutes, and tell them that there are suspicious people around here who might have attacked me. They said they will come if I find some evidence. You have the number of the officer who worked on my case, right?"
"Why wait for 5-10 minutes? Let's call them right away," I said.
Police can handle those goons. No need to get our nonathletic selves into this battle.
"The goons would probably run away or hide as soon as they hear the sirens. I need to see the faces of all of them, before the police chase them away."
"Yeah, because the police are just waiting outside the gate for you. Your one call and they would zoop right in one second," I said just as sarcastically as he did before.
Ah, the beautiful rare times when I get to call out his stupidity. Mwahahaha!!
