52- God Of Suspicion

Rehaan's POV

If you want you can be my real girlfriend too!

I wanted to add this sentence at the end when I told her, "Want to stay and work here as a housekeeper, then it's okay to stay. I will give you a salary. Want to act like my girlfriend again, then do it."

If only I had the courage to tell her. Tell her that despite all the lies and hurt, I still couldn't stop myself from falling for her. Tell her that her girlfriend act was still real for me.

If only I could confess my real feelings, then probably she wouldn't get so panicked and over-think about her situation each time something went wrong. Then she would have known that the door of this house was always open for her.

Nah! Muskaan cannot stop over-thinking. She would still worry about overstepping her boundaries.

"I should have just kept quiet about hearing it all." I sighed to myself, after Muskaan left the room.

I was expecting a cute reaction as she fumbled her way around to explain their idea of staying here by fooling me. I had expected her embarrassment. What I didn't expect was her breaking down!

In a way it was good that she finally let out her bottled feelings, but I really didn't like seeing her cry.

Hoping she didn't cry again, I moved to take my medicines, before getting into the bed.

If I thought I wouldn't be able to sleep because of worry, then I was totally wrong. The moment my head hit the pillow, I was out like a light.

★★★★★

I slept through the night or whatever was left of it. Getting out of the room, I saw Muskaan and Ananya Di almost done with the breakfast.

"Oh you are up, good. Ananya Di was just going to leave in a few minutes," Muskaan said, hinting with her eyes to politely see her friend off.

Understanding her hint, I did mutter something to her Di, but my whole attention was on Muskaan's red swollen eyes.

It seems like she cried throughout the night.

"Alright then, I will be off," Ananya Di said, before telling Muskaan to think about the documents again.

It was clear from Muskaan's face that she didn't want this. It was so clear even to me then why didn't her friend understand. Why did she keep poking her about it?

"Do you really have to do this so early in the morning? Why ruin her morning?" I huffed, after seeing that Muskaan wasn't fighting for herself.

It doesn't take a second for her to fight with me then why is she taking everything silently now?

"Ruin her morning? She will ruin her life if doesn't make a decision now. What do you want her to do? Just sit here on her ass waiting for the day you throw her out. She needs money. And for that she needs a bloody identity," Ananya Di said in a loud pitch, throwing her hands up in the air.

"Her real identity," I countered in a normal tone, while rolling my eyes at her extremeness.

She scoffed, folding her hands. "And how is she going to get that real identity? Will you bring it back for her?"

"I will," I said with determination.

"Rehaan stop, she is just instigating you," Muskaan said in a low voice, gently pulling me away from the elbow.

"No, no, don't stop. Please tell me how will you do it? Because in case your wounded head doesn't remember, her documents have been burned from the face of the earth."

"Di!" Muskaan yelled, before moving to stand up in front of me to face her, "you cannot do this. Making fun of his condition, this is beyond cruel."

Fighting with the whole world to protect me.

My fierce Muskaan was back.

I stood behind her, letting her take the reins. As Muskaan fought for me, I contemplated what I could do for her.

"I am sorry," Ananya Di apologized. "I was way out of line."

"I am thinking of contacting the culprit through the extra phone I found in my locker," I told Muskaan, ignoring her friend's apology.

"What?" Muskaan asked, looking shocked and scared at the same time.

"I have contacted him through that phone in the past. I am sure, if I try, I will be able to work something out now. I will meet him to find out the reason who he is, and why he is doing this."

"Are you crazy? He can kill you," Muskaan shrieked.

While at the same time, Ananya Di taunted, "As if you would ask and he will blabber out the truth."

"I will be fine," I assured Muskaan, "his focus is your documents, not our lives."

I then turned to Ananya Di. "He will not reply because I will not ask. According to what has happened, it seems like he doesn't know that my memories are lost. To him, I still know everything."

"How are you so sure that he doesn't know anything?" Muskaan asked in a curious yet serious tone, panic taking a back seat. "They have been keeping tabs on us. Then they must surely know—"

"They wouldn't have taken the pain of doing all this if they knew that I don't remember everything. And in turn you too are clueless.

"They want you out of something. Burning your documents and asking you to keep quiet meant that they thought that I had informed you about whatever I knew about them."

"Makes sense." Both the girls nodded in unison.

"But what will you achieve by meeting him? If you ever find a way to meet him, that is," Ananya Di asked, taunt lacing her every word.

"Something," I said in a blunt tone. "He would surely say something upon seeing me. Probably try to bribe me again. If not anything, then at least there's a chance for some memories to pop up in my mind after seeing his face."

"That's too much risk, and too little gain," Ananya Di said, basically calling my plan a flop.

I nodded, admitting that she was right.

No use in being egoistic right now.

"The plan isn't full proof but it is something. Better than sitting here in panic and waiting for their next attack," Muskaan said, using Ananya Di's words against her.

"It isn't something. It is plain stupid." Ananya Di deadpanned. "Both of you are way over your head. One is talking about fighting injustice, while the other thinks he can fool the culprit into speaking the truth." She looked at both of us as if we were the annoying pests.

She took some deep breaths, before speaking in a normal yet strict tone.

"I told you yesterday, and I will tell you again. Fighting with these guys isn't going to be a walk on a flowery path. And even if you are ready to fight through all the obstacles, there's no guarantee that it will be a happy ending. This is not a movie. Everything miraculously doesn't get better in the end."

"Why does it seem like you are desperately trying to hold us back from trying anything to help our case?" I questioned, eyeing her suspiciously.

"Did he not hear a single word I said?" Ananya Di asked Muskaan, in a baffled tone.

"Are you on their side?" I asked the second question, before Muskaan could respond.

"Rehaan, what are you saying?" Muskaan asked me, looking warily between both of us.

I gently moved Muskaan a little away from her friend, before telling her my speculation.

"All she has done after coming here is to try to demotivate us from fighting back and force you to accept the new identity. Something those thieves want."

"So that makes me their spy." Ananya's mouth was hung open at my blatant accusation.

"Come to think of it, whatever we know about those goons is what Ananya has told us. Who knows how much of it is true and how much is made up." I shrugged, now doubting each and every story she has told us until now. "We haven't even gone to your rented home to check whether your documents are actually gone or not."

"It was quick," Ananya commented with a snort.

"What was? Finding out your truth?" I asked with raised eyebrows.

"Dropping 'Di' from my name," she corrected, giving me a sweet poisonous smile.

"We called you Di out of respect. Why give respect to a backstabber?" I huffed.

"You don't trust me either?" She asked Muskaan.

I opened my mouth to agree, but Muskaan beat me to it. "Of course, I trust you," she said to her, while glaring at me.

"Don't mind him; he has a knack of splurging out random conspiracy theories that makes absolutely no sense to anybody other than him."

"Excuse me!" My mouth was left hung open at Muskaan's words.

"Just because someone has a different opinion than you, doesn't make them your enemy," Muskaan said to me at last, before moving away from my side to walk away with her friend.

I heard some last beats of their conversation, before they went out of the front door, making me huff at their audacity.

"I thought you said he was intelligent," Ananya muttered to which Muskaan replied,

"I also told you that he is the God of Suspicion."
