Who is this guy? And what has he done to my jerk Boss?
He was acting too weird. Something changed after he got up from the nap. Or probably even before that. He wasn't acting like the boss I knew at all. Even if his memory was gone, I was of the opinion that his nature remained the same. At least it did in the hospital. But now his every action was so different.
Neither did he ask me to fill up his kitchen as soon as we got here, nor did he let me cook. Even while eating, if it was the previous Rehaan, I would have received the scolding to cook his favourite food right away. But here he adjusted with whatever was given to him, just so that I could finish my food peacefully.
And if that wasn't enough, he suddenly wanted to help me with chores too. Sure, he didn't remember that I was his housekeeper and was just trying to help his girlfriend. But is it really possible for a person to try something they have never done in their whole life, just because they lost their memories?
This guy who had never even lifted his spoon helped me clean the entire refrigerator today. And he even wanted to do the tedious task of grocery shopping.
Okay, okay, not lifting the spoon was an exaggeration. But the point remains the same.
Digesting this new behaviour of his was surely hard, but that didn't mean it was bad kind of hard.
Who cares if he acts weird? I sure don't. As long as he is helping me around, he can act weird as much as he wants.
This scenario is a once in a lifetime opportunity. I should enjoy it while it lasts. Mwahahaha!

"Here's the list. There's a departmental store across the road, you will find almost everything there."
"You could have just texted me the details," he said, but still took the paper from my hands.
"I prefer writing it down. If you want text then copy it yourself."
"Explains the lack of text messages between us," he muttered under his breath, before looking up at me and chuckling, "Did we send letters to each other like the old times?"
I just rolled my eyes at him, not bothering to give him a response as I wasn't in the mood to come up with another lie.
Shaking his head, he glanced at the items of the list, before asking, "The departmental store across the street, right?"
"Yeah...you will be able to cross the road, right?"
"I. Am. Not. A. Kid." He emphasized, gritting his teeth at me.
I scratched the back of my head. I didn't mean to insult him. I was just concerned because he was scared earlier while walking out of the hospital.
"Fuck, this is embarrassing," he mumbled.
"I didn't mean to-" I tried to clarify but it turned out he was embarrassed about something else altogether.
"What to do after going there? Should I just hand them the list? Or...," he trailed off, looking nervous as well as embarrassed.
"Should I just come with you?" I offered.
"No," he shouted, but then spoke in a normal pitch, "just give a rough idea. I promise I won't trouble you again with this."
Who knew that a simple grocery shopping could also make someone sweat buckets in nervousness?
I wriggled my hands, trying to come up with a simple explanation. Something which was easy for him to understand, but didn't make it seem like he was stupid for not knowing things.
"Umm...there will be different aisles for different types of products. You just go and put everything you need in the cart and then at last just go to the billing counter. There they will check and give you the bill. You pay, then bag your goods and come back. Easy peazy!"
"Oh! There's also staff roaming around. You can ask them if you can't find something. But you don't have to talk to them, if you don't want to." I added it as an afterthought.
He slowly nodded, as if he was taking in all the information.
"Are you a regular there? Did we always buy things from there?" He asked, after a few seconds.
"No, why?"
"Just in case someone recognized me, and I cannot because of you know," he said, pointing towards his bandaged head.
"Don't worry. No one really knows you, personally at least. Given the scary aura you used to roam around with, I don't think anyone actually has the guts to approach you."
I knew he was going to scoff at my words and he did exactly that.
Finally something I could predict about Rehaan. Yay!
"Yeah, right. No one knows me, even though I have been living here for three years. The only plausible reason for this scenario would be-"
"That this isn't actually your home. And I am lying," I completed it for him, knowing well how his suspicious brain would work.
"No, it means that along with cooking and cleaning, I didn't help you with these things either," he said in a quiet tone, looking uncomfortable as hell.
What the fuck is going on in his mind?
I laughed nervously, while trying to think of a way to ease his mind.
"No one knows you here because we used to buy everything from the market near my home. I preferred buying from small sellers and you gave in to my demands."
Again with the half truth, half lie.
I bought everything alone. But I deliberately added 'we' so he could relax a bit. And it really worked, because I could clearly see the relief in his eyes.
"Oh!" He breathed out, a smile perching up on his face. "Then why did you ask me to buy everything from the store today?" He asked, looking at me curiously.
"Because you aren't completely healed. So I thought it was better if you bought everything from nearby. Moreover, you don't get everything in one place from where we shopped before. You would have to search around the market for different things. And talk to different vendors. You wouldn't even know how to bargain and end up giving more money."
I stopped my blabbering when I noticed him looking at me with an amused smile on his face.
"Sorry about the long rant." I slapped the side of my head at my idiocy.
My train doesn't have any breaks. Once it starts, it keeps on blabbing.
"Nah, it was cute."
My eyes widened at his comment and his eyes did too. He probably didn't even realize that he blurted it out.
Clearing his throat, he changed the topic back to grocery shopping.
"Departmental store seems easy compared to the market if I go by your explanation. Why did you prefer the other option then? Oh, you also said something about bargaining there. Don't we have to do that in the departmental store?"
He actually listened to my long rant.
I looked at him in surprise. I thought he would have just ignored my babbling. But he heard it all, and even wanted more information about it.
"Personal preference, I guess." I shrugged. "But I do think that veggies are more fresh in the market. For other packaged products, it's just a habit," I answered his first question, before moving onto the second one. "About bargaining, you don't have to do it in the store."
"Their prices must be less than the market then," he guessed.
I chuckled at his assumption. "Nah! It's more or less the same. Or sometimes even more. Not talking about the products on sale though. That's 50-50. You can save too or get completely fooled by the tactics."
"That doesn't make any sense," he muttered, looking comical as he tried to make sense of it. "You bargain at a place that sells fresh yet low priced products. But you don't utter a word to the overpriced ones. Make it make sense."
"You just don't. Don't try to understand it or you will go crazy. Not that you already aren't." I added, tongue in cheek.
"Ha-ha, very funny," he said sarcastically, rolling his eyes at me.
"Enough questions for today, go now," I said, pushing him lightly towards the main door.
"To the market?" He raised his eyebrows.
"To the store," I deadpanned, before saying, "I will show you the in and outs of the market some other day, if you are still interested after today."
Although I offered, I didn't have much hope. After all, this was Rehaan, the jerk of a boss, who never did household chores. It would be a wonder if he even completed the task today.
But I would still appreciate his thoughts. At least, he was trying. And that was more than enough.
