CHAPTER NINE: Curiosity

"Seriously, what's up there? Is it a Diavolo shrine? Asmo told me you admired him, but wouldn't that be kinda creepy?"

Lucifer stood between me and the staircase, trying to glare me into submission. That only made my power of badgering stronger.
"Do not forget that you are a guest in this household, (Y/N). You cannot disobey the rules. Stay away from this staircase, or so help me."

Tilting my head, I puffed out my cheeks, glancing to either side of him.
"Wouldn't it be so help me?" As he tried to process my sass, I lunged towards the small gap between his left side and the bannister. I knew full well that I couldn't match a demon in speed, so it came as no surprise when he grabbed me by the scruff, holding me up so my feet dangled a good inch off the ground.

"Do you need to be punished again?" Sure, it was a threat, but dirty minds do dirty things, and I wasn't about to keep that to myself.
"Ohoho? Luci, are you trying to woo me?" The moment he registered my words, he dropped me straight on my ass, stepping around me, muttering what I could only assume were obscenities.

"You're not good for my blood pressure...Just...stay away from the staircase, (Y/N). I'm warning you." Once he took his leave, I stood up, rubbing my sore behind and trying to hatch a plan.
"You look hungry." Jumping slightly, I glanced over to Beelzebub, who was shuffling along from down the hallway.

"Right back at ya." I smiled and thumbed towards the kitchen. "Actually, wanna snack and chat? I need your help with something." I didn't need to say anything more. Beelzebub ushered me towards the kitchen, which happened to already be occupied by one of his brothers.

Leviathan took one look at me and scowled, closing the fridge with force before shoving past us to exit. It was rather obvious he hated me to the core, but I wasn't sure why. Was it because I wouldn't go along with his plan? Had I done something else?

"Don't mind him. He's always uppity." Beelzebub gave my hair a ruffle as he moved towards the freezer, wasting no time in lifting the top and rummaging around.
"Still...Should I talk to him? Try to unpiss him off?" Taking a seat at the island bend, I watched as the ginger pulled out two plastic packages, waddling over to the microwave and tossing them inside.

"I'd leave it. He's snarky at the best of times, but I'm sure he'll warm up. Unless you're an animated magical girl with a big chest, he'll probably just accept your general existence." Beelzebub didn't look at me as he spoke. Instead, he just stared through the microwave window with a fierce intensity.

"I mean, fair enough, I guess..." I chuckled, tracing the patterns of the granite with my fingertip. "So, I was wondering, do you know why Luci won't let anyone upstairs? He's being real passive aggressive about it, minus the passive."

Before the first beep ended, Beelzebub grabbed the now steaming snacks and moved to sit across from me, sliding one over, much to my surprise.
"He won't tell us, and I don't particularly care. Unless it's a stash of food. I'd be pretty hurt if he was hiding food from me."

I never would have guessed...

Inside the package was a rather crispy looking reptile, staring up at me with its beady eyes, but I couldn't refuse. Apologising to my taste buds and digestive tract, I took a bite of the tail, pretending the crunch of scales and bone were just in my head.

"I'm a whore for mysteries, though. I can't help but wonder..." I forced myself to swallow, immediately placing it back down on the wrapper. "So, I've noticed you guys all seem to have grudges against Luci. Is it because he's all boss-like or something?"

Already finished with his, Beelzebub looked longingly at my lizard, and I didn't hesitate in sliding it over to him, receiving a beaming grin as thanks.
"That's part of it, I guess. My feelings stem more from him sending Belphie to the human world."

Belphie..?

"He's my twin. We aren't supposed to talk about him...but I don't think that's fair. He opposed the whole exchange program, so Lucifer sent him up there as punishment. I don't even know if he's doing okay..." His demeanor quickly dropped to concern, and it upset me. I didn't want my one proper friend to feel sad.

"That's awful! I mean, well, the human world was shit for me, but...I..I'm sure he's having a great time up there! I bet he'll even bring you back some cool human snacks to try!" The mention of food seemed to bring my buddy back to a better mood, and he smiled, sucking the last of the lizard's tail into his mouth.

"I hope so. I haven't tried much human food before. I heard you have magic mushrooms up there, but not like the ones we have here. You tried them?" I very nearly snorted at the mention of those, and had to regain my composure.
"Well, yes, but, uh, they're not really proper food, Beelz..."

As I explained the magic of those special little mushrooms, in wandered Mammon, shoving something into my face. My DDD.
"This damn thing has been going off and it's annoying. Don't just leave it laying around." He muttered, sticking his nose to the air.

"It was in my room, Mammon..." I chuckled, unlocking the screen to check my messages as he began to splutter, Beelzebub's laughter only making it worse.
"Y..yeah, well, it was loud and I heard it from the hall! Still annoying!" Ignoring his excuse, I realised that the messages had been from Solomon.

Huh...That's funny. I don't remember giving him my number...

From: Unknown
- (Y/N), it's Solomon.
- I was wondering if you would care to have lunch with me this afternoon down at Hell's Kitchen?
- I'd like to get to know more about my fellow human exchange student.

"Oh, it's Solomon. He wants to have lunch later." I hummed, tapping out a quick acceptance text to not seem rude.
"Lunch? Can I come?" Beelzebub nearly pressed his forehead to mine as he leaned over the table, and I squeaked before Mammon shoved him back to his seat.

"You'll empty the whole place again! I'm going! You know, to make sure this dumb human doesn't get eaten!" I didn't appreciate being called dumb, but of course I let it slide.
"Why don't you both come? We could invite the others, too? I'm sure Solomon won't mind?"

I really just wanted a chance to bond with the brothers properly. Asmodeus and I were okay, but the others still seemed to be distant. If they didn't like me, that was fine, but it wouldn't hurt to try and connect.
"Asmo is out for the day, and Levi won't come out of that damn room unless we smoke him out. Satan's an asshole, and so is Lucifer, so don't bother."

Shrugging, I stood up and brushed past him, slipping my DDD into my pocket.
"I'm asking Satan and Levi anyway. You never know! They might be up for it?"

Leviathan was definitely not up for it.

I could hear him in his room. At least, I could hear the soundtrack of his game spilling into the hall. After a few knocks and calls where he didn't answer, I decided to give up, not wanting to upset him any further. Satan, on the other hand, answered his door after the first try, face mildly frustrated when he saw it was me.

"Do you need something?" There was something about him that intimidated me, but it wasn't exactly in a bad way. It was more akin to awe.
"Uh, so...Solomon invited me out to lunch later, at some place called Hell's Kitchen? I was wondering if you'd like to come too? Mammon and Beel are going as well."

It really looked like he was considering it for a few moments, brow quirked as he looked down at me.
"I prefer to avoid eating in public settings with Beel. As for Mammon...I just don't like being seen with him, period. I'll pass." He went to shut me out, but I stuck my arm between the door and the frame, yipping under my breath when it began to squish.

"O..okay then..! What about...you and me go have lunch another day? Or coffee? Tea? Do...demons have coffee and tea? I dunno...but we should hang out at some point! Levi, too! I'd like to get to know you all better..." Did I sound desperate? I was sure I did, but this was my life now, and these were the people I had to spend my time with. I just wanted them to acknowledge me, at the very least.

"We do...but I don't-" He was definitely about to decline my request, but then he met my eyes. Big, (E/C) and hopeful, and he heaved a long sigh. "Fine. I'll find some time soon to humor you. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'd like to return to reading." Carefully pushing my arm out of the way, Satan closed the door, but I was fine with that. I'd managed to convince him to spend some time with me.

Now, hopefully Levi will agree, too...

***I swear shit is gonna start happening soon.

I've been ridiculously dizzy/light headed and have had blurry vision for two days now. I'm over it hhhhhh

Once I've finished the last few commissions I have to do, I'm gonna make a new cover, seeing as I've added Satan as a love interest.

Next Time: Benefit of The Doubt (feat. Beelzebub mukbang)***
