Vancat- Summer Days

i recently fell in love with this ship- it's sooo underrated and i freakin love it man             dont worry tho h2ovanoss is still otp

After months of school and studying, Tyler was relieved that finally, FINALLY, summer had come. He always acted like a slacker, mouthing off to teachers and picking fights and pretending not to care during classes; but in reality, he was as hard-pressed to succeed as any other student. It never came easily to him, the way it did to Evan. Tyler tried not to be jealous, he really did- but who wouldn't be jealous of a hilarious, genius, and openhearted (admittedly handsome) guy like him? While that bastard seemed to succeed at everything he did without trying, Tyler only managed to pass his classes with the help of hours of studying every day.

Whenever he couldn't play with the gang, he just told them he felt like taking a nap or going on a walk or some shit like that- he didn't want to admit that he was poring over his textbooks. But- thank the heavens- the misery had finally ended. He could finally focus all of his energy on his growing YouTube channel, and... No, not him. Evan was just a friend. And so different from Tyler, so.... perfect. It would never work out.

Evan was surprised at how fast summer came. It felt like only yesterday he'd walked in the school's gates, excited for a new beginning. A chance to make some more friends, branch out, and create lasting memories. But time just went by too fast, the days slipping from between his fingers. Time. That's all he needed. More time. Evan was always agonizing over it. What would happen when the gang graduated? Would they stick together, or would the more likely thing happen: they all went their separate ways and drifted apart? Either way, the inevitable summer had come, and with it more worries and stress.

At least now he could hang out with the gang more. Perhaps they could all go to the beach sometime on a group roadtrip, or even better, just him and... forget it, not him. Tyler probably hated Evan, always ignoring him in class and laughing, carefree, with the class. Evan wondered how it came so easily to Tyler- why he could look stress and fears and anxiety in the eyes and just live it out to its fullest. How he was so confident and relaxed and... perfect. This thought scared Evan for a moment. How different they were. Tyler would never like Evan the way he wanted him to. It was pointless.

Tyler was sitting in his bed, humming to himself. It was some song he couldn't remember the name of, and for some reason small waves of sadness washed over him. It reminded him of some unnamed thing he would never have, something he longed for. And when his phone went off with the ringtone of the song he was humming, Evan's contact stared back at him.

Rolling over, he grabbed the phone and answered the call immediately. "'Ey, Evan! 'Sup?" When the other replied, his voice made Tyler's stomach flutter. "Hey, man. Uh, me and the guys are... um..." Evan coughed. "Sorry, heh. Lemme try that again. I was wondering if you wanted to come with me- erm, us- to the park? We were gonna go play some soccer and stuff. Lui, Marcel, and Daithi are coming." Tyler felt a little disappointed that it wouldn't be just the two of them, but he almost died from joy right there anyway. "Uh... you there?" Evan said in concern. "Yeah!- yeah, I'll come. See you there in ten?" Without waiting for an answer, Tyler hung up with a grin on his face. When he got in the car a minute later, the song he'd been humming was on the radio.

"Earth to Evan," Marcel said, waving a hand in front of his face. When there was still no response, Lui poked him in the eyeball. "Ow! What the hell?" Lui blinked innocently while Marcel scoffed, "You dumb shit, you were staring off into space for, like, an hour." "Probably fantasizing about Tyler," Daithi theorized wisely. Evan didn't know what to say to that, so he just rolled his eyes. "It hasn't even been ten minutes."

Five more minutes of misery later, Tyler's car pulled up and the man got out, trotting up the hill where the rest of the group stood bickering. "Eeyyy bitches guess who's here?" he hooted. "Evan missed you," Nogla blurted out. "Evan and Tyler sittin' in a tree..." Lui started to chirp in his squeaker voice. Tyler scowled and glanced over at Evan. He felt his cheeks heating up but stared back anyway.

"Look at these two eyefukin' each other. Get a room," Marcel snickered. Nogla's eyebrows raised. "We should give them some alone time," he said with a wink. Lui nodded in agreement. "CARRY ME PEASANTS!" And before Evan could react or even process what Marcel said, Nogla and Marcel had lifted the squeaker on their shoulders and bounded away. Laughter from the three of them rang out across the otherwise empty park.

"Well..." Tyler said. "Well indeed," Evan murmured, staring down at the trio as Marcel and Nogla complained about Lui's weight. "Guess it's just the two of us now." He suddenly became aware of the sunset painting the horizon before them, and the comforting sound and feeling of Tyler's breathing. Evan felt his face grow even hotter. When Tyler spoke again, he could hear the hesitation in the other's voice. "Evan... do you ever just... Ugh, forget it." The childish trio below them collapsed in a screaming heap when Nogla lost his balance. Evan paused, then turned to look at Tyler.

Tyler had been looking at Evan, and quickly glanced downward when he was caught staring. "Ty..." he whispered, "The days go by too fast. There's not enough time, never enough time. I'm always afraid of what I'll never get to do. I don't want you to go through that, too. Whatever you were going to say, just say it- life's too short." Tyler's breath caught in his throat as he dragged his eyes up to meet Evan's. Evan thought for a moment that his gaze lingered on his lips, then pushed the thought away. Wishful thinking. When Tyler spoke again, he almost missed it. His voice came out as barely above a whisper, words choking in his throat. "I feel like I'm never going to be good enough..." he muttered, struggling to maintain eye contact. "I never find the courage to..." He shook his head, hesitating, then continued speaking. "I worry about consequences too much. I'm too busy trying to be the person people expect to stop and consider that maybe taking the risk is worth it. It always just feels like... I'm less than I need to be. I simply can't be good enough."

"You're good enough for me... more than good enough..." Evan whispered, leaning closer. This time he had no doubts when a pair of eyes drifted to his lips. Tyler let out a shaky laugh, drawing Evan in even more. "Maybe you're right. Time waits for nobody. So... live every moment to its fullest. No time for regret." And finally, it happened. Lips crashing into his, eager but hesitant at the same time. Passionate but gentle, as if afraid of being rejected. Evan had no doubts in his mind, no thoughts at all as he kissed back other than IlovehimIlovehimIlovehimsomuch, letting his instincts take over. His fingers found their way to Tyler's back, clenching the fabric of his T-Shirt in his fists as they let themselves get lost in the moment and the music of each other's heavy breathing.

Nothing could break this connection now, the beating of their hearts in unison and the feeling of their lips pressed together. Well... nothing but the rowdy cries of three riled-up spectators.
