Chapter 9

Sam's POV

Eight hours. Eight God forsaken hours scouring every inch of the house searching for clues. And nothing came up. Sam was getting more and more frustrated. More than once, he had to take a break to keep from going crazy.

"I don't understand. It's like no one was ever even in this house!" Dean said, bewildered.

"It is strange that I can't detect anything other than a werewolf," Castiel agreed. "It's highly doubtful that this lycanthrope is the creature that caused this."

Sam sighed and went into an empty room, examining every square inch. Maybe there was something they missed. "You're not going to find anything in this house," the icy voice from earlier said as his head started to hurt. He spun around.

"Who said that?" His threatening voice was laced with a hint of fear.

"Me." Sam spun around again. "You're not going to see me, idiot. I'm in your head."

"Who are you?" Sam mumbled, not wanting to be heard by the others. If this voice was truly in his head, he would look insane if he was caught seemingly talking to himself.

"You're not going to find anything in this house," the strange voice repeated.

Sam groaned in annoyance. "You didn't answer my question."

"Names are not important in this world. What is important is who you can trust."

"What are you talking about?"

"Your so-called friends and brother in the other room. Can you really trust them?"

"O-of course I can! You're the one I can't trust!" Sam scoffed. He could trust the ones in the other room. They had proven their trust!

"You sound hesitant. Are you certain?"

"I..." He hesitated. Now that he thought about it, these people did seem a bit... unstable. Bordering on insane. He remembered the fact they had a trunk full of weapons. And why did they never settle down? Were they criminals on the run or something? "I... think I can trust them." Castiel had healed his wounds and Gabriel had taken him back to Dean, who had seemed really worried about his disappearance. But... that could all be a trick to get him to trust them... "I'm not sure."

"Exactly. You don't really know them, do you? You need to get away from them as soon as you can before they hurt you. Those men out there are monsters. They've slaughtered hundreds. Thousands. They wouldn't hesitate to kill you too."

Sam glanced to the door. "They say they kill monsters. Like, vampires and werewolves and stuff like that."

"Do you actually believe them?"

"It sounds far-fetched to me," Sam admitted.

"They're delusional. They try to tell themselves they're saving people from demons and monsters, while they're really just killing innocent people. How long before they think you are a monster?"

That was a logical argument to Sam. These people could easily overpower him too. He backed further away from the door. "Wh-what am I supposed to do?"

"Run. The window behind you."

"It's a two story fall!" Sam said, looking down at the drop.

"Just do it. You won't get hurt, I promise," the voice tempted.

Sam backed away from the window. There was no way he was jumping. Until he heard a knock on the door. Dean's voice was muffled on the other side. "Is everything alright in there Sammy?"

He didn't reply. Quickly and silently, he unlocked and opened the window. Looking back at the door, he panicked. What if Dean was going to use the weapon he had in his hand to hurt him? Too scared to think properly, he turned and jumped out the window.

Sam rolled as he hit the ground and quickly got to his feet. He didn't know where he was going, but he had to get away from those people. He took off running, letting his legs carry him to wherever they wanted him to go. After ten minutes, he slowed to a stop in front of an abandoned warehouse. Looking around, he realized he had no idea where he was or how to get back.

His phone buzzed and he checked it. Dean was calling him. He yelped and quickly turned off the cellular device.

Sam looked at the building in front of him. The wind blew, and he shivered. He figured he might as well head inside the building. He tried the door, surprised to find it unlocked. Looking behind him one more time, he went inside, closing the door behind him.

STILL ALIVE!!!! I did not abandon you! I'm so sorry for taking so long to update! I'm actually in class as I'm typing this though. Sorry the chapter isn't the best, but it got the plot moving, didn't it? Maybe I'll update sooner now. I've already got an idea or two for the next chapter. So I hope you liked the chapter, despite it being so short and undescriptive. Until next time, my readers!
