18| no. we. are. not. dating

"Ok. Just clarifying, you guys aren't dating right?", Marcia asked again, as she passed the bacon to Mom. I just looked at her and Alec looked ready to go to Mars.

"Mom. We. Are. Not. Dating", Alec said through gritted teeth. I shook my head.

"I swear to God, this seems baised", I muttered, knowing how much my mother hated judging people. True to herself she said,

"Ok, ok. We get it, you guys are not dating. Just saying that-", Mom tried to cover up.

"Baised", I told her. She sighed.

"Ok, stopping", she said. Alec have me a thankful glance as Marcia just shook her head.

"Where's Dad?", Alec asked, obviously trying to change the topic. Marcia laughed.

"Sleeping in", she said, "Where's Daniel?", she asked Mom.

"At home", Mom said, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Then realisation dawned upon her.

"He needs breakfast, doesn't he?", she noted with wide eyes. All of us laughed. It took me all of my will power not to say No shit Sherlock.

"Eva can you please go and call your father for breakfast? Alec, please feel free to give her company", she told us.

I just frowned at Mom, but got up anyway. I heard Alec get up too. We got out of the house and Alec breathed a sigh of relief.

"Gods. If that wasn't embarrassing. Sorry for all the-", he tried to apologise for the awkwardness.

"It's fine. My mother was just as bad", I laughed. He nodded. We reached my house quite quickly, obviously. I rang the doorbell and Dad opened the door.

"Oh hey. I almost thought you guys were having breakfast there without me", he laughed. Alec looked at me and both of us laughed a nervous laugh.

"Yeah. About that. Mom and Marcia called you over for breakfast", I told him. His eyes immediately lit up.

"Good. I'm coming", he told us, then he frowned at both our T-shirts.

"Are you guys dating or something?", he asked. Both me and Alec groaned at the same.

"Why does everybody?", Alec muttered at the same time as I said, "No!".

"Sure, sure. I'm coming", he smiled and closed the door. Both of us face palmed at the same time.

"Remind me to never wear the same shirt as you", both of us said together, as we walked back. Both of stopped in our tracks.

"Now this is creepy", I said.

"No shit", he smiled. I wanted to talk to him about the dance, but he just didn't seem in the mood. Why would he have wanted to dance with me, of all people. And that passion...

"-any books?", I tuned back to the conversation. Alec was looking at me with an expectant look.

"I'm sorry. What?", I asked him.

"Would you like to borrow any books?", he repeated. I beamed.

"Can I?", I asked.

"Sure", he smiled. We got back into his house and we sat down to finish our breakfasts.

After breakfast Alec lead me back up to his room for me to pick which book I wanted to borrow. I looked at the stacks and immediately had no idea what to pick. I looked over to Alec for help. He laughed and came over.

He put his arms over my shoulders and looked at the stacks of books. I feel a blush ride up my face as his arms wrap around my shoulders. I kept thinking about the dance, we had danced in this room not even half an hour ago.

I snap out it when he hands me a book.

"Animal farm? Really?", I asked him, incredulous. He shakes his head.

"Believe me, it's really good", he told me.

"Ok", I shrugged, deciding that trying it out couldn't hurt. We went down and I told Mom and Dad that I was going back home. Alec dropped me off till the door.

"See you later?", he asked.

"Yeah, sure", I told him, as I walked away.

"Bye"

"Bye", I replied. I walked back home worrying as to what I could do for the rest of the time. I had till 8. In the evening.

Ugh.

I reached home and pulled myself upstairs. As always, the parents decided to stay back and have their routine group discussions. Considering all that happened today, I had a bad feeing that Alec and I would be a part of their discussion. Poor Alec.

Not having anything to do, I decided to look up the translation of Despacito.
I have three words for you-

Worst. Decision. Ever.
*shudders*

Pro tip: don't ever look it up.

Just no.

Probably scarred for life, I had no idea what to do. It is at times like this people make the worst decisions possible.

'I'm gonna run for president', says Trump one fine, boring day.

But no. I zeroed in on something decidedly worse. Something that would definitely get me into trouble if I did it without any consent. Mom would definitely kill me.

I'm going to colour my hair.

Once the idea was planted in my head, it just refused to go away. Finally, I decided to look up colours. After lots of research, I had two things I could do:

1) keep my hair red and streak it blond
2) dye all of my hair brown and tip the ends teal

Before I could zero in on any of the two, the doorbell rang. That was a first because we never had guests over, that too this early in the morning. Also Mom and Dad had the keys.

Unsure as to who it could be and also since I was alone, I armed myself with a frying pan as I inched towards the door. The doorbell rang again.

"Eva?", a voice called. Alec. I quickly opened the door.

"Gods. You scared me", I shook my head. He took a long glance at the frying pan in my hand.

"Evidently", he stated, laughing. Then he straightened up.

"If you're done going all kung fu kid on me I was thinking we could go out for a while", he smiled at me. I just shook my head at the jibe.

"What do you have in mind?", I smiled, looking up to him.
