14| are petting zoos even legal?

"Ohmigods, you guys", Zach laughed, shaking his head. I smiled at him.

"So yeah. That's what happened", I told him. I had just finished recounting the entire episode to him. Zach had laughed to every single comeback, like come on, I may have said Alec's weren't good, but they were ok.

"Can I be frank? Though you say you don't like him, he is the perfect guy for you", Zach smiled at me, looking at my face for a reaction. I allowed myself to blush, it seemed the cleverest thing to do.

Or you could punch him
...

In the shoulder, of course.
Yeah.

So I punched him the shoulder.

"Ow! Hey, what was that for?", he frowned as he rubbed his shoulder. I bore my eyes into his.

"I decide who is perfect for me and who is not", I told him. He laughed.

"Ok ok!", he raised his hands in defeat. Then he straightened.

"So what is this camp for?", he asked.

Huh?
...

Oh my gods.
Wow.
I have no idea what this camp is about, do I?

How nice, Eva.

Idiot.

"That question is literally the most sensible thing to ever come out of your mouth", I told him. He looked at me, uncomprehending.

"I have no idea what this camp is for", I told him the truth, as I weighed exactly how stupid I was.

"What? Really?", Zach looked like his eyes were going to fall off. I looked down.

"Unfortunately, yes", I muttered.

"Call Alec and ask him", he laughed. I gave him a look. I wasn't really the most enthusiastic person to call him right now, but I did it any way.

"Hey diss queen", Alec low voice rolled in through the phone.

"Um, hey- oh my gods, did you just call me that?", I asked him, horrified by the terrible name.

"Yes I did", he laughed. I just shook my head.

"Please tell me it isn't sticking", I cringed.

"Of course it is!", he said. I could hear him smirking through the phone.

"Ok. Fine. I don't care-", I started, as Alec scoffed.

"Yeah right", he said.

"Ok! Whatever! I called you for something very important", I told him.

"What? Are you ok?", he asked, clearly concerned.

Aw, he's concerned about you!
...

Just shut up, dumb mind.

"Of course I'm ok. I'm going to ask you something, but you have to promise you won't laugh", I tried.

"Why would I laugh?", he asked. He sounded genuine enough.

"Ok. Please enlighten me as to what this camp is about", I told him, praying that he didn't laugh. But the phone was silent on the other end.

"Alec?", I asked, unsure as to what happened to him.

"Hm? I'm here", he said, sounding slightly lost.

"Hello? You were supposed to-", I started when I was cut off by laughter.

"I'm so sorry Eva, I couldn't hold it any longer", Alec said in between his laughter. I scowled, even though he couldn't see me. Zach looked visibly worried when he saw me scowl, I just reassured him with my eyes. He nodded and eased.

"You seriously don't know what it is about?", he asked after he finished laughed.

"Why would I laugh, he asked. Idiot", I muttered.

"Hey! I thought something happened to you", he defended himself.

"What would it matter to you anyway?", I asked him, feeling the winds of a brewing storm.

"Ok, let's not fight. The camp is a wild animal camp", he told me.

"What?", I asked him, not having heard of anything like that.

"So you go there and its like a petting zoo kind of place", he explained.

"Is that even legal?", I asked.

"I don't know. Apparently it is", he said.

"Hm. Ok. Thanks, I guess", I told him.

"You guess?", he asked, clearly mocking me.

"Ok fine. Thanks", I exclaimed, fed up.

"You're welcome", he said, I could imagine him grinning on the other side,

"And if anything happened to you, of course it would matter to me. I care, ok?", he said. That was all that was needed for my heart to start beating like it was competing with Grover on Enchilada day. I felt the familiar rush of heat rise to my cheeks.

"She's blushing at whatever you said, Alec!", Zach shouted into the phone. I pushed him away. Alec chuckled.

"Idiot", I muttered, unsure as to which boy I was calling that.

"K. Catch you later, diss queen?", he laughed. I groaned.

"That name", I muttered, "Yeah sure, Lightwood", I said, sticking to the first nickname. He laughed again.

"Yeah bye"

"Bye", I said and cut the call. I dropped the phone next to me on the bed. Zach looked at me.

"Well that was an awfully long conversation for just asking about the camp", he pointed out.

"Stupid boys. None of you know how to have a proper, short conversation", I blamed it on the boys.

"Oh yeah go ahead. Blame it all on us", Zach shook his head.

"Ok, fine. You can have short conversations, but you can never stick to the point. You know that's true", I looked at him.

"Ok, yeah. That's true I guess", he admitted. I smirked, triumphantly.

"Oh gods, I have to pack. I think we leave tomorrow, or something", I frowned as reality dawned upon me.

"Ok finally, What is this camp about?", Zach asked.

"Oh yeah. So basically, its like a petting zoo or something, for wild animals", I told him.

" What?", he looked at me

"That's exactly what I asked him, I had no clue there was something like that"

"Why is a petting zoo called a camp?", Zach drawled.

"I have no idea. But it shouldn't be for more than two or there days, right?", I asked, and he nodded.

"Yeah. If it were any longer, it would get annoying I guess", he shrugged.

"Hm", I nodded.

"I should probably get going, you know. So that you can start packing", Zach said, as he got off the bed.

"You sure you wanna go?", I asked him, I didn't really want him to leave.

"I should go. Its late", he nodded.

"Yeah, ok", I said. Then he turned to me.

"I'm here for you, ok? Anything, anytime, if you should ever need me, I'm here", he looked at me into my eyes. I smiled at him.

"Yeah, I know. Me too, ok? If you ever need anything", I told him. He smiled back.

"Hope you have fun, text me, k?", he tells me.

"Yeah sure", I smile at him.

"And. Yeah, maybe you're right. Maybe you actually don't like Alec", he told me, and with that he left.

I wouldn't be so sure, Zach.
