12| who the hell is lightwood? did you just?!
"Eva? You there?", Zach asked, waving his hand in front of my face. I looked up.
Come on, Eva.
Get a grip on yourself!
Deep breath.
Go.
"Of course! Now finish telling me how you met!", I said, trying to shake off my previous feelings. Zach grinned at me, Alec was with his head in his hands.
"We met in preschool. It was his last year and my first. He was my guardian angel", Zach said, smiling. I giggled at his comparison.
"Angel", I teased, looking at Alec. Thankfully, he got the TMI reference and laughed.
"You will not believe it", Zach continued, "I", he motioned his lean muscled body, "used to get bullied by older kids".
"Shocker", Alec muttered, "He used to be the size of a pea", he told me. I covered my mouth in mock surprise.
"Ohmigods. How come?!", I exclaimed in a high, girly voice.
"Shut up. Anyways, Alec, being the buff one, used to stand up for me", he said, smiling again.
"And I helped you build long train tracks!", Alec raised his hand and immediately put it down looking embarrassed. I laughed.
"And that", Zach laughed, "We all have such weird stories. I love this gang!", he gushed. I face palmed at the same time as Alec cringed.
"What?", Zach asked, hurt.
"You sound like that girl, Lily, I think, from the movie We Bought A Zoo", I told him, shaking my head. Alec burst out laughing.
"That girl who had a crush on that short boy and laughs weirdly?! Dude you are so messed up", he teased. Zach pouted. I put an arm around his shoulder.
"Sorry", I muttered, pouting back. He smiled.
"C'mere", I said, welcoming Alec into our awkward hug, not really expecting him to come.
"Uh, I think I'll pass", He said, shaking his head, looking like he was going to pass out.
"No. You are not gonna pass", Zach exclaimed, grabbed Alec by the shoulder and pulled him into a hug. Alec was reluctant for a few seconds, but then he finally gave way to our awkward threesome hug.
After a few seconds, Zach let go of us in such a way that Alec and my shoulders were touching. I felt Alec stiffen and instinctively I stiffened as well.
"You know", Zach started, eyeing both of us like an artist, "You guys would look great together", he concluded. I immediately felt a familiar rush of heart ride up my cheeks.
I looked away from both of them, trying to hide my blush.
"Yeah thanks, funny", I heard Alec mutter. I felt I flare of I-don't-know ride up my chest.
"Um, guys. It was supposed to be a joke. That doesn't mean you blush the blood out of you", Zack said, sounding a little uneasy. I turned, wide-eyed, to look at Alec. He too turned to look at me, his face flushed pink. His eyes also momentarily flashed as he looked at me. My hand immediately went to my face. With that Zach burst out laughing.
"Alec, you were so wrong man. I'm not messed up. The both of you are", he laughed.
"Zach", I groaned.
"Sorry", he muttered. Alec got off the bed.
"I have to go and help Izzy pack for her camp tomorrow", Alec said
"You have to drop him, Eva", Zach teased.
"Um, he's my neighbour, genius", I reminded him.
"Oh right", Zach admitted, sheepishly. Alec looked like he had something more to say to me, but then he just wished goodnight and left.
"Ohmigods, you like Alec", Zach accused me, the moment Alec closed the door.
"Um, no! What happened to David?", I laughed nervously.
"No one cares. Screw that g– oh, oh. You wanna tell me what happened today?", he asked considerately. I mentally slapped Zach. From one dicey subject to the other. But the David business didn't seem that troubling anymore, so I narrated the whole evening to him.
"So his excuse was that he was puking for 10 minutes. Did that guy even know what bull crap he was saying?", Zach asked incredulously.
"I don't know", I shrugged.
"But you still like him. And Alec. Ohmigods Eva", he smiled.
"I don't like Alec romantically!", I protested.
"Oh please. You should've seen your face when I cracked that joke. Alec's face as well. It was like your faces were competing", he sighed.
"Zach, its time to go home", I said sternly.
"And the drama queen decides to kick me out of her hou-", he got cut off as my phone began to ring.
"Who the hell is Lightwood?", Zach asked, looking at the caller id.
Oh gods.
"Its Alec", I exclaimed, as I reached for the phone. I answered it.
"Hello?", I tried nervously.
"Why did you say you wouldn't come??!!!", a high voice wailed from the other side.
"Izzy?", I asked.
"Yes its me! Why won't you come?!!", she cried into the phone.
What are you taking about, Izzy?
"I don't know what you're taking about", I told her, expressing my growing clueless nature.
"Alec told me you said you couldn't come!", she complained.
"Come where, Izzy?", I asked, genuinely curious as to where this conversation was leading to.
"For the camp!", she cried.
"But I didn't say anything like that, Izzy!", I told her, solemnly.
"But Alec said you said you couldn't come", she accused.
"Alec didn't even ask me, Izzy darling!", I told her, calmly, though I was feeling contrarily. Clearly Izzy had asked Alec to ask me if I wanted to go to camp with her and he thought it was okay not to ask. Of course I would say ok to Izzy!
"Alec didn't ask you?", she asked in a small voice.
"Nope", I told her.
"ALEC! ALEXANDER! YOU LIAR! YOU DIDN'T EVEN ASK HER!", she yelled. I heard a muffled voice in the back.
"Izzy, can you give the phone to Alec, please?", I asked.
"Sure", she said. There were muffled noises again.
"Hello?", a familiar, low voice asked.
"Why didn't you ask me?", I asked.
"I forgot", came the answer.
"Even when you said that you had to help Izzy pack for the same camp you were supposed to ask me about?", I interrogated.
"Uh, yeah", he said.
"So you decided to tell Izzy that I wasn't coming?", I was getting annoyed now.
"Yeah! Or else she would make me come back to your house and ask you!", he raised his voice suddenly. I was taken aback, but determined not to go down without a fight.
"What's wrong with coming back? All she asked you was a small favour, don't you value your sibling's needs?", I shot back, suddenly unsure as to where I had taken the conversation.
"Clearly I not enough to see your ugly face again", he hissed and cut the call. I blinked a few times as his words sunk. Then I brought the phone down from my ear.
"What cheek", I snorted to no one in particular, Zach looked at me like I was mad.
"I have work to do. Back in 10, k?", I slyly smiled at him. He just swallowed and nodded.
