Chapter 2: What Matters
Mirio
"Will you be okay to walk now?" I asked him, moving strands of hair away from his face. I moved them behind his ears. He flinched and seemed to get more uncomfortable.
I frown slightly and let go of him. "I'm sorry..if I did something wrong. I don't want my friend to be sad, it makes me sad.."
Tamaki sighed and trailed his fingers to his hair, moving it back to the sides of his face to hide.
"You shouldn't hide your face like that, Tama! The world needs to see how special you are!" I exclaimed.
"Ur..- well- I-" He stuttered, covering his face in his hands.
I laugh. "We'll work on it!"
"Mmm.."
"Tama.." I shake my head slightly, but keep my head up high.
I can't control him, he'll..get there eventually! I stood up and held a hand out to him. "Hmm..you never told me what you did to help Fatgum and Krishima today!"
"I don't know..I cornered the villain, and we were in this dark alleyway-" His breath hitched and he grabbed my hand, pulling himself up. "We won, and- wasn't, uh, too hard."
"Oh..alright! So, you're good? I don't want to see you in pain-"
"Yeah! Yeah.." He said quickly, his eyes glued to the floor.
I nodded and stretched my arms, taking a few steps forward before looking over my shoulder. "C'mon Tama!"
Tamaki rubbed his arm and followed behind a bit. I was able to slow my pace so we matched the same speed together.
"I really.."
"Want to go home? We're almost there! Don't worry!" I called, winking at him.
He flushed a red hue and looked away, watching the trees go by. He..
He looked away..why? I thought- Does he..hate-
No, no Mirio, don't let that bring you down. That's nonsense, if he hated me, he'd have left already.
Although..he did try to..
I shook my head slightly and took a deep breath.
Instead, I smiled softly and watched his eyes dart at the trees with a smile on his face, it made me content knowing he was safe, happy and comfortable.
That's all that mattered to me.
"I don't say this enough..that, I wanted to thank you for being so nice to me throughout the years.." He paused and turned his head to me.
"I don't know what I'd do if," He fumbled with his fingers. "You weren't here."
The sudden compliment caught me off guard, making a blush creep up my neck, and onto my face. I've never gotten so flustered by his compliments before! Why am I now?! Act normal, c'mon!
I tilted my head up and smiled at the sky, my eyes brightening up. I sigh and let out a small laugh. "Thank you. It's nice to have you around too, your calmness and ability to be more down to Earth is comforting to me!"
Tamaki's eyes were in awe as his ears perked up more. "You give me too much credit, Mirio..I can barely get my own emotions together..At least you go through each day inspiring your classmates."
I scoffed and grinned, crossing my arms and giving him a gentle push with my hips. He jumped a bit and pouted.
I only chuckled,"Nonsense! You deserve most of the credit. I could've never made it here without you! You inspire me to do my best every day, cheering me on and helping with my every recovery."
He shook his head a bit, before I mimicked his movement. Tamaki did it more and I just copied his teasingly.
"Miriooo.."
"Whatttt???"
"Stappp.."
"'Stap' whattt???" I laughed and shrugged my shoulders.
Tamaki frowned before breaking out into an incredibly, addicting laugh. The silence was broken between us, but when we got to the house..
For one of the first times in forever..
It was back to silence.

Tamaki
I've had this crush on Mirio for a year now.
And it's slowly killing me..
As we walked side by side, I wanted to hold his hand.
Or how when he fights villains, I always squirm at my desk, worrying my heart to death when the news comes on.
I was just scared.
No, I am scared, I'll always be.
I looked up at him and couldn't keep eye contact for long..his eyes are too pretty..
Like the sky..
It was so silent between us..it reminded me of when he first made friends with me.
I always kept to myself, and Mirio's friends always hung out with him when playing volleyball on the weekends, or even when we watched some of Mirio's quirk practices. I was always there..in silence.
What changed between us? Did I do something wrong?..Did he realize that I'm not a good friend?
I sighed softly and wished the walk would continue forever. Maybe I'd finally get the courage to tell him- everything.
But I stayed calm.
"Well, I gotta go!" Mirio began.
I stayed..
"See yah tomorrow, Tama-"
Mirio..
Wait-
"Be careful out there! Get warm, it's going to get cold tonight!-"
no..no I can't.
I can't stay quiet!
"The walk is- pretty far! Why don't you stay here? We could have a sleepover, just like we used to do as kids!" I blurt, covering my mouth with my hands.
Mirio went quiet, and stared at me with big eyes. He then began to smile wider and wider before jumping up on his heels. "That's a great idea!! I would love to! But, would your parents mind? I mean, me coming over and all?"
"They..won't mind-" I coughed and rubbed my arms with my hands.
It's so cold out here..
My breath was seen as I inhaled and exhaled, the white smoke making Mirio chuckle. I smile and saw his breath too.
"They aren't at home..they went on a vacation, I decided to stay for hero work!"
And other reasons..
"Really? Well, if it's not a big deal I could hang for a bit! I'd have to call my dad, but I'm sure he won't mind!" He states.
"Mhm.."
Mirio shuddered and cupped his mouth. "Chilly.."
"Ah- I'm so sorry, come in! I can get you some blankets so you can get warm!" I exclaimed, opening the door for him. I bowed my head, my cheeks a noticeable tint from the cold and my burning face.
