Ch. 8 I will take good care of you

Pretending to be his older brother, Stanford Pines, is going to get tougher for Stanley Pines now that he has three young relatives living with him at the Mystery Shack.

Stan has been able to pull off being his older brother for several years after the original Stanford Pines disappeared through a mystical portal. However, he is worried that his three young relatives will see through his mask and would call the authorities on him for impersonating someone else.

Sometimes, Stan wonders if it was an excellent idea to let his nephew, Franklin Pines, send his children to Gravity Falls.

Stan has never been a fatherly figure to anyone before. So, he is scared to mess things up. Even though Soos sees him as a surrogate father, he is worried that Soos doesn't want him as a father when he someday reveals his true identity to the young adult when the real Stanford Pines appears.

" Even though scamming people is terrible, if you are doing it for the right reasons, maybe it's not that bad," Talulla's voice echoed in the back of Stan's head.

Stan hummed when he remembered meeting Talulla for the first time when she got out of the truck. When he held his Grand-niece's hand, he was shocked that she had the same six fingers as his older brother.

' I wonder if Talulla's six-fingered hand can open the portal,' Stan internally speaks.

Stan didn't want to take advantage of Talulla's trust. So, he decided it was best to get to know her and let her do whatever she wanted. That way, when he tells her about the real Stanford Pines, she will agree to help him when the time comes.

However, Talulla's younger siblings could tamper with his plans. They could persuade their older sister not to work with him, finding him a creep.

A ringing sound grabs Stan's attention. His chocolate brown eyes blinked when he realized he was standing in front of the snack machine. He looked at his surroundings, seeing no one.

' Who is coming here at this hour?' Stan internally speaks. He turns around and walks towards the front door. He opened his door, and his chocolate brown eyes widened when he saw Talulla outside holding a wooden Moses-style basket in her grasp with a diaper bag on her right shoulder.

' That's right. I let Talulla go out with Wendy,' Stan remembered.

Stan's chocolate brown eyes blinked when he saw Talulla looking scared and worried.

" What's wrong?" Stan asked, sounding genuinely concerned.

" My Dad," Talulla stuttered. She looked at her surroundings as though she was worried someone would pop out and take away whatever she had in her hands.

Stan raised an eyebrow. His chocolate brown eyes blinked when he heard babbling sounds from the wooden Moses-style basket. He looks down and freezes when he sees a baby boy with blonde hair and doe-like chocolate eyes that resemble his and Talulla's eyes staring at him curiously.

Stan looks at his surroundings, seeing no one, and he lets Talulla and the baby boy inside the house.

" Why do you have a baby with you?" Stan asked, watching Talulla place the wooden Moses-style basket on the coffee table.

Talulla stared at the baby boy and then at the wooden Moses-style basket. Her chocolate brown eyes spotted the name Bartholomew etched on the fabric.

" He's my baby," Talulla explained. She carefully grabs the baby boy from the wooden Moses-style basket and turns to look at Stan.

Stan looks at Talulla in disbelief.

Talulla securely holds the baby boy in her grasp. " His name is Bartholomew Pines. His father had a fancy name and wanted the baby to have a fancy name as well. But I like to call him Barty," She warmly smiled when the baby boy grabbed her sixth finger and stared at it curiously.

" I did, um, a dumb mistake according to my parents," Talulla blushes. " A year ago, I met Barty's father back in California. He was a foreign exchange student from London, England," She lifts her head to stare at Stan.

" Then we fell in love. However, my parents disapproved of our relationship because he was a couple of years older than me," Talulla bashfully stared at Stan.

" When my parents found out I was pregnant, they were very disappointed in me," Talulla frowned.

" They send me off to New Jersey where Grampy Shermie lived so I could have my baby there," Talulla explained. " My younger siblings believed I was caring for our sick Grandpa when in reality, I had my child," She fondly stared at Barty.

Barty cooed at Talulla, causing her to smile.

" My parents said I could raise my child for a year, and then I had to give him away," Talulla lightly bites her lips.

" But, I couldn't," Talulla begins to get emotional. " I am his mother. I couldn't just give him up," She lifts her head to stare at Stan.

" So, instead, they decided to disown me," Talulla murmured. " And not wanting their reputation to get ruined. They decided it would be best for me to move here at Gravity Falls since it's a small town and start working to support myself and Barty," She sadly sighed.

" My siblings tagged along with me so it wouldn't look suspicious," Talulla adjusted Barty in her grasp.

' I am so sorry, Mom and Dad, for throwing you under the bus and painting you as horrible people,' Talulla internally speaks. ' But, I cannot risk this baby getting send off to the system,' She looks at Stan worryingly.

" Your folks disowned you," Stan murmured.

" And before coming here, my Dad just gave Barty to me, looking disappointed in me and telling me that I am now an adult because I decided to keep my baby," Talulla tried her best not to cry. To distract herself, she gently pats Barty's back.

" Your folks disowned you," Stan continued.

" Yeah," Talulla speaks, looking nervous. " Please, don't kick me out!" She exclaimed. " I promise to work very hard. And I promised to take good care of my child and younger siblings," She begged.

" Hey. Hey," Stan blushes, looking awkward. " No one is getting kicked out," He reassured.

Talulla looks at Stan with a hopeful gaze. Barty looked at his mother and Stan with the same optimistic stare.

' Since the little tyke looks to be one. That means Talulla must have him when she was 13 or 14,' Stan internally speaks.

" When was he born?" Stan asked while gently poking Barty's round cheek.

Talulla looked down at Barty. " He was born on June 30, 2011. So, he's going to be one soon," She responded.

" I see," Stan nodded. " Why don't you two take a bath and then get to bed," He rubbed the back of his neck with his right hand.

Talulla brightly smiled and nodded. " Let's go take a bath," She looks down at Barty and fondly stares at him.

" I'll take his bed to your room," Stan speaks, watching Talulla head up the stairs with Barty in her embrace.

' I need to ask Soos for help to get some baby supplies for Talulla,' Stan internally speaks. He brushed his hair with his right hand, looking at the stairs and snack machine with mixed emotions.

" Thank you," Talulla responded. She walked up the stairs to the bathroom. She closed the door and carefully took off her clothes with one hand since she was holding Barty on her hip.

" Alright. Let's get you a bath," Talulla carefully took Barty's clothes off and held him close.

Barty's chocolate brown eyes blinked when he saw himself and Talulla in the mirror. He adorably tilted his head when he spotted a yellow diamond-like birthmark on Talulla's neck. " Ah!" He gently patted the mark, causing Talulla to stare at him.

" I know. I have a weird birthmark," Talulla giggled. She looks away and sets up the bath, ensuring the water is at a suitable temperature for Barty to bathe.

Talulla and Barty sat in the bathtub, careful not to hurt his eyes when pouring a drop of shampoo and conditioner on his golden hair.

" Bah! Bah!" Barty slapped the water, causing him and Talulla to get wet.

Talulla snickered, finding Barty adorable.

A couple of minutes later, Talulla and Barty finished taking a bath. They carefully got out of the bathtub. Talulla grabs a cream-colored towel and wraps it around her body.

" Alright. Your mother must have left you some extra clothes and diapers in that diaper bag I found next to your basket," Talulla softly speaks. She grabs another cream-colored towel and wraps it around Barty.

Barty cooed and snuggled against Talulla, causing her to smile.

Talulla gets out of her bathroom and looks at her surroundings. She noticed that her bedroom was the only one open. She walked across the hallway to her bedroom and closed the door behind her.

Talulla saw the diaper bag and the wooden Moses-style basket on her bed.

" Let's get you dressed first," Talulla speaks. She walks toward the diaper bag and opens it.

' At least all those babysitting gigs I had back in California are going to come in handy,' Talulla internally speaks.

Talulla laid Barty on the bed, ensuring he didn't crawl away. She grabs a comfortable onesie, a diaper, wipes, and baby powder.

' I should buy more baby supplies once I get my paycheck,' Talulla internally speaks while cleaning Barty's bottom and putting on the diaper.

Barty adorably yawns, causing Talulla to smile. " I should make his bottle after I get changed," Talulla whispered.

A knock on the door grabs Talulla's attention. " In a minute," She quickly runs towards her luggage, unzips it, and takes her pajamas. She removes the towel and puts on her pajamas.

" It's me, Grunkle Stan," Stan speaks.

Talulla walks towards the door and opens it, seeing Stan holding a baby bottle filled with milk.

" While you and the baby were bathing, I went to make the kid's bottle," Stan explains.

" Thank you!" Talulla beamed.

" I made sure that the bottles were clean and that the milk was at the right temperature," Stan reassured.

Talulla took the baby bottle and nodded. " Have a good evening, Grunkle Stan," She warmly smiled.

" You too. If you need anything, don't hesitate to knock on the door," Stan points to his bedroom.

Talulla nodded. She closed the door and turned to Barty, who was adorably kicking his little feet and staring at the ceiling in awe.

" Who would have thought I find a baby so cute," Talulla amusingly speaks.

Talulla walks towards the bed and carefully grabs Barty, looking at her with doe-like chocolate brown eyes.

" Here you go. Grunkle Stan made this for you," Talulle begins to feed Barty, who grabbed the baby bottle with his little hands.

Talulla watched Barty eat. She turned her gaze to the diaper bag, and her chocolate brown eyes blinked when she spotted an envelope sticking out. She grabbed it and saw that there was no name on it.

' I wonder if this letter is from the mother,' Talulla internally speaks. She pulls out the letter and begins to read it. She noticed that the writing was in cursive.

Please take good care of Bartholomew. I cannot raise him anymore because of difficult situations. If you are reading this, thank you for finding Bartholomew. He was born on June 30, 2011, and will soon be a year old this year. He is a very calming baby but will get upset if you take something he loves.

Talulla frowned since she couldn't find the mother's name in the letter. She was surprised that she guessed Barty's birthday correctly.

" Bah!" Barty threw the baby bottle on the bed, getting full.

" Okay," Talulla held Barty on her shoulder and began taping his back to burp him. " Don't worry, Barty. I will take good care of you," She softly speaks.

Even though raising an infant that isn't yours is a challenging responsibility, Talulla couldn't shake the feeling that Barty needed help and that she was the only one that could help him.
