Ch. 2 Leaving California

Living so close to an airport has perks because the Pines Family arrived at Oakland International Airport in thirty minutes when Franklin used the highway. The car gets parked in the public parking lot, and the family gets out of the vehicle.

" How long will you guys stay at Gramps' place?" Dipper asked while helping his father take the luggage out of the car.

" Ooo! Ooo! Will you guys stop by Gravity Falls and then head to Gramps' place?" Mabel asked while taking her luggage from Dipper's grasp.

" No. Our flight to New Jersey is an hour after your flight," Franklin responded while passing luggage to his eldest daughter.

" I'm going to miss you guys," Talulla looks at her parents.

" We are going to miss you too," Annalise hugs her eldest daughter. " Take good care of your siblings and make sure they don't cause trouble," She whispered.

Talulla nodded. " Say hi to Gramps for me," She lets go of her mother and fondly stares at her.

Annalise nodded. She walks past her eldest daughter to give her younger children a big hug.

" Say hi to Uncle Stan for me," Franklin speaks while hugging his eldest daughter.

Talulla nodded. " Do you know how much he will pay me for working for him at his Gift Shop?" She asked while hugging her father

" He didn't say. I suggest you talk to him about it when you can," Franklin lets go of his eldest daughter and fondly stares at her.

" It better not be 15 dollars an hour. That's the bare minimum," Talulla muttered.

Franklin amusingly chuckled. His chocolate brown eyes were briefly saddened since his eldest daughter's comment reminded him of his other Uncle, Stanley Pines. He has only seen home videos of his second Uncle and heard stories of him from his father.

" Even though you are going there to work, I also want you to have fun," Franklin looks at his eldest daughter.

Talulla brightly smiled. " Mom. Do you have our passports and tickets?" She asked while turning to look at her mother.

" I do. I put the passports in a zip-lock bag," Annalise pulls out a zip-lock bag from her purse and hands it to her eldest daughter.

Talulla grabs the zip-lock bag that contains her and her younger siblings' passports. She puts it away in her mini backpack that has her essentials.

Even though the three siblings will travel from state to state, they must always have their passports.

" And here are your tickets?" Annalise grabs their flight tickets and hands them to her eldest daughter.

Talulla grabs their flight tickets and turns her gaze to her younger siblings. " Are you guys ready?" She asked when she saw that they were hugging their father.

" We're ready!" Mabel exclaimed while Dipper nodded.

" Alright! Let's get going," Talulla motioned her younger siblings to follow her. She turns around and begins walking towards the airport with her family following her.

Talulla and her family enter the airport. She looked down at their flight tickets and saw they would take SouthWest airlines to Portland International Airport in Portland, Oregon.

" Call us when you guys get to Portland," Annalise speaks.

Talulla and her younger siblings turned to their mother. " Of course! I'll call you guys once the plane lands in Portland," Talulla reassured.

" I love you all so much," Annalise hugs her children.

" We love you too!" Talulla and her younger siblings responded while hugging their mother.

" Have a safe flight," Franklin speaks.

" Tell Grampy Shermie that I love him!" Mabel lets go of her mother and smiles at her father.

Franklin fondly chuckled and nodded.

" Let's go, you two," Talulla waves goodbye to her parents and turns around.

Mabel turns and runs up to her older sister. She grabs Talulla's right hand and walks beside her.

" Dipper. Make sure nothing happens to your sisters," Franklin firmly speaks.

Dipper saluted. Since their father isn't going to be with them, Dipper is technically the man of the family for now. He waves goodbye to his parents and turns around, running after his sisters.

" Is our trip to Portland far?" Mabel asked. She looked at her surroundings in awe since it was her first time inside an airport. Usually, their relatives would come to California to visit them. Now, it's their first time leaving California to visit their relatives.

Talulla shakes her head. " No. I looked it up online. It's a 2-hour flight." She responded.

" Sweet!" Mabel brightly smiled.

" Wait up!" Dipper shouts while panting. " Do you two even know where we are going?" He asked. " Dad left me in charge, so you two better not run off again," He scolded.

Talulla and Mabel looked at Dipper and then at each other. " You do know that Talulla is the oldest," Mabel reminded her younger twin.

" I know, but Dad specifically said I have to look after you two since I am now the MAN of our Family," Dipper responded.

Mabel elbows Talulla. " MAN of our family. And yet he still sleeps in his Lamby Lamby Pajamas," She snickered.

Talulla giggled.

" They are comfortable!" Dipper shouts while playfully glaring at his sisters.

" We are going to Southwest Airlines," Talulla informs her younger siblings. She turns and continues to walk while searching for Southwest airlines.

" There it is!" Mabel shouts while pointing at the Southwest logo.

" Alright. You see that nice lady. She is a flight attendant. We will give her the tickets, and she will escort us to the airplane," Talulla explained to her younger siblings.

Mabel and Dipper nodded. They walk with their older sister to Southwest airlines. Talulla approached the flight attendant, and she gave them their tickets.

" You three made it. We started boarding," The flight attendant speaks. " Jackie, here, will escort you to the airplane," She turns to her co-worker.

" Great! Let's go, you two," Talulla motioned her younger siblings to follow her and the flight attendant to the airplane.

The flight attendant took the three siblings to the airplane. She showed them to their seats and helped put their luggage above them in the cabinet.

Talulla let Mabel take the window seat, and Dipper sat between the two sisters. The eldest Pine sibling made herself comfortable, and her chocolate brown eyes blinked when she received a text message.

" I told Uncle Stanford about you three arriving in the afternoon. He said that a friend of his named Zeus would pick you guys up and take you to Gravity Falls," Talulla reads her father's text message.

' Zeus. Got it,' Talulla internally speaks while nodding. " Did you two put on your seat belts?" She asked while looking at her younger siblings.

" Mabel fell asleep," Dipper responded, ensuring his older twin got secured.

Talulla raised an eyebrow. She glanced at her younger sister and amusingly chuckled when she saw Mabel sleeping and snoring.

" And I am also wearing my seatbelt," Dipper informed his older sister.

" That's good. I suggest you take a nap as well, Dip. It's a 2-hour flight," Talulla looks at her younger brother.

" It's okay! I brought my summer homework-" Dipper grabs his homework and gets cut off by Talulla taking his school work. " Hey!" He adorably glares at his older sister.

" It's summer vacation, Dip. You can work on your homework at another time," Talulla carefully puts the homework away in Dipper's backpack.

Dipper opened and closed his mouth and sighed. " Can I at least read my book?" He asked while looking at his older sister with puppy-dog eyes.

" Sure," Talulla nodded. She watched her younger brother pull out a Sherlock Holmes book. She snickered, finding Dipper adorable about his love for mystery.

Talulla looks away, and she closes her chocolate brown eyes. She could hear the pilot speaking, informing the passengers that they were now leaving Oakland, California. Her hands lightly grasped the handles, feeling anxious since it was her first time going somewhere without her parents, and she was now responsible for the well-being of her younger siblings.
