Nine o'clock rolled around and not long after the party was in full swing. Farren had been alone with Kaden for the full day and was now glad of some other company. There was only so much time you could spend with a sarcastic asshole without losing your mind. Especially if said sarcastic asshole made you feel certain things you shouldn't be feeling
His eyes scanned the room, taking in the atmosphere of the party. He was currently leaning against the wall in the kitchen, a beer in hand, talking to Jesse and Luke. They could hear the loud music belting from the sitting room through the doorway, where Farren knew that if he looked, he would find loads of sweaty drunk teenagers grinding mindlessly on one another.
The party seemed to be taking place mainly in the sitting room, the kitchen and the back yard. Thank god Kaden didn't have nearby neighbors because if he did, there would surely be noise complaints made.
Farren, Jesse and Luke decided to make their way out the back, where they could hopefully have a conversation without needing to shout over the booming music.
He glanced around the backyard, taking it all in, and as he did so he couldn't help but focus on the pool, the last glimmers of light from the setting sun shimmering in the clear water. This scene was all too familiar, and he felt his heartbeat quicken as he thought back to that night with Kaden.
He turned back to face the other two boys, throwing those thoughts back to the back of his mind, hopefully forever.
Jesse and Luke, who were both slightly tipsy but not drunk yet, were both deeply immersed in some debate they were having. Luke, upon seeing that Farren's attention had focused back on them, turned to face him, running a hand through his short hair frustratedly.
"What do you think Farren? Who's better, Spider-Man or Batman?"
"Spider-Man. Obviously Spider-Man." Farren replied without hesitation, deciding to humour the two slightly tipsy boys before him.
"Hah!" Said Luke, turning to face Jesse with a smug smile. "What did I tell you. Everyone's prefers Spider-Man, that's just the way it is."
Jesse rolled is eyes in response. "Whatever Luke, your opinions don't mean shit anyway."
"Hey," protested Luke, while Farren just laughed at the two of them. Honestly, they were like five year olds.
He could feel eyes burning into his back and when he turned around he realised it was Julianna. She sent him a playful smirk and he knew what that meant. They hadn't hooked up in almost a week and she wanted it just as bad as him.
He winked back at her playfully, before excusing himself from Luke and Jesse's little debate and motioning his head towards the kitchen door.
She understood what he meant and left her friends, following him to the kitchen. Once inside he turned to greet her with a grin.
"Hey Julianna."
"Farren," she winked in reply, handing him a beer.
Julianna was hot. There was no denying that. She was African-American, with light brown skin, black hair, and a killer body from running track and playing volleyball.
But for some reason, today she just didn't seem as appealing as usual. It wasn't that she looked any different, it was just Farren didn't feel the need to jump her bones as much as usual.
Whatever, he was probably just tired.
"So how are you finding the party?" She smiled at him.
"Oh you know, same old," he smiled back. "Always room for improvement," he added with a wink.
"Well hopefully I can make it better," she smirked at him seductively, taking his hand and leading him upstairs. That was the good thing about hooking up with Julianna. She never beat around the bush, attempting to make small talk. She knew what he wanted and he knew what she wanted. They used each other, and they were both fine with that.
They stumbled upstairs, trying all the door handles. Most of them were locked, but finally they stumbled into what he assumed was a spare bedroom.
He barely had time to look around at the plain walls and double bed, before focusing his attention back to Julianna, who pushed him back on to said double bed and climbed on top of him, a devilish smirk playing across her features
He returned her smirk with one of his own, leaning up to kiss her. He was in for a long night.

Farren made his way downstairs an hour later, zipping up his pants as he went. He wasn't drunk before heading upstairs, and the sex had sobered him up completely.
He thought to ten minutes ago, before he left the spare bedroom. After they had sex, Farren realised he didn't really feel any sense of achievement. Sure, the sex felt good enough, but there was something in the back of his mind telling him it wasn't right.
And as he descended the stairs and saw a familiar blond haired blue eyes boy talking closely with a cute redhead, who he seemed to remember as Rachel something or other, the feeling in his gut just deepened.
Needing some air, he decided to step out onto the porch and clear his head. He sat against the house, leaning back with his head resting on the wall and his eyes closed.
What on earth was happening to him. First he starts noticing Kaden was.. attractive. Then they had their two little.. moments. And now here he was, finding it harder than he ever had before to get into sex with Julianna.
He didn't like Kaden did he? He shuddered at the thought. Of course he didn't. Kaden was rude, he was sarcastic, he made Farren's life very difficult.
Of course he didn't like him. But Kaden intrigued him. He found himself wanting to get to know the boy better, to really get inside his head.
He didn't like Kaden, of course he didn't.
He wasn't gay, he knew that.
It was intrigue, fascination disguised as romantic interest. It was newfound friendship with an unexpected boy. All it was was friendship.
And friendship was all that it could be.

Kaden woke up the next day with a pounding headache and an aching body. He looked around the room that wasn't his own in confusion for a moment before coming back down to earth and realising it was Farren's room.
God, a week later and he was still waking up confused of his whereabouts.
He squeezed his eyes shut again, rolling over on his side of the bed. But for once, he wasn't stopped by Farren's massive feet digging into his back. He sat up and looked around the room, but Farren was nowhere to be seen.
He checked his phone. 6am. Where the fuck was Farren at six in the morning. Kaden remembered them both stumbling in the door at 2am, meaning Farren couldn't possibly have gotten up of his own accord, the dude would be going off four hours sleep at most.
Whatever, he thought, pushing the worry out of his mind. Farren was probably just throwing up downstairs, or had gone to get a glass of water or something. He closed his eyes and turned back over, embracing the warmth of the bed.
But no matter how hard he tried to ignore it, a little voice in the back of his head told him he had to at least make sure Farren was okay .
Groaning, he reluctantly got out of bed, cursing himself and his stupid feelings of worry under his breath.
"Fuck you Farren Milton," he muttered to himself when he felt the cool air hitting his skin. Deciding to throw on a pair of sweatpants as a last minute thought, he made his way downstairs.
As he reached the base of the stairs, he heard muffled voices coming from the den. He sincerely hoped that Farren was not with a girl and that he would not walk in on him having sex. Ew. Even the thought made him shudder.
Pushing those scarring images out of his mind he made his way towards the den. As he got closer, he let out a sigh of relief when he realised the sounds behind the door was actually just a movie.
He paused hesitantly outside the door, before throwing caution to the wind and pushing down on the handle.
Farren was laying down on the couch facing the television screen, so engrossed in the movie that he didn't notice Kaden entering the room. A mischievous smile made it's way onto his face.
He crept slowly over to where Farren's head was resting on the right armrest of the couch, a pillow to support him. Kaden bent down, making sure to hold his breath, bringing his face so close to Farren's he could smell his shampoo.
He positioned his mouth right behind Farren's ear, waiting a couple of seconds before saying anything. "What you watching there Farry?"
Farren let out a choked screech, jumping back so fast he landed himself on the ground. Kaden burst out laughing, clutching on to his side where a stitch was fast approaching.
He could see the realisation dawn on Farren's face, as he glared over at him with his hand on his heart and his breathing laboured.
And lord did he look good, all wide eyes and disheveled hair.
"Always knew I made you breathless Milton," he shot at Farren with a wink, who just glowered back at him.
If looks could kill..
"Your the biggest pain in the ass ever," Farren finally spoke, pushing himself off the ground and heading back over to the couch.
Kaden just stuck his tongue out in reply, causing Farren to roll his eyes at him which left him wondering Farren ever stopped rolling his eyes.
Farren went to settle back down in his old position on the couch but Kaden had other ideas, shooting up from the floor and smugly claiming one end of the couch as his.
"Kadennn," whined Farren, "I can't lie down with you on the couch."
"Hmm, that is unfortunate," he replied sarcastically. "I guess your just going to have to sit up."
"But I'm tired," Farren whined again.
Tired? If the boy was so tired why didn't he just stay in bed?
"Well here's an idea if your so tired. Come to bed." Kaden retorted.
"Wow Rivers, at least buy me dinner first," smirked Farren seductively, throwing in a wink for effect.
Kaden shot him an unimpressed look, ignoring the tingling feeling in his stomach. Now was not the time.
"Seriously though Farren. Did you even go to sleep at all? You seemed exhausted when we got in from the party" he asked him, all traces of joking gone from his voice. He turned his body towards the other boys, sitting cross legged.
Farren just shrugged, mirroring Kaden's position on the couch. "Yeah of course I slept." He said, not meeting Kaden's eyes.
Kaden didn't believe him for a second. If there was one thing Farren wasn't good at it was lying.
He gave him a serious look. "Farren," he deadpanned.
"Kaden.." Farren mimicked.
"Oh Milton how I do hate to burst your bubble, but you my friend, can not lie. So you can stop pretending, and just tell me what's on your mind."
"There's nothing on my mind," Farren insisted. "I'm just having a hard time falling asleep."
"I presume it's because there's a sex god sleeping in the bed with you? I'm truly sorry, Farren, that my beauty and presence keeps you up at night," he joked with a wink, earning him a punch in the arm from Farren.
"But seriously. Farr, just tell me what's wrong." He continued. What could he say? He was worried about Farren.
Ugh, Milton was turning him into a girl.
He could see Farren considering his options, before he finally gave in, knowing that he wasn't going to give in. Not this time.
"God, why are you so persistent," mumbled Farren, leaning back and closing his eyes. And for some weird reason, Kaden wished he had leaned forward instead, so he could reach out and touch him.
And it was at that moment, at six o'clock in the morning downstairs in Farren Milton's house, with The Amazing Spider-Man paused on the television in front of him, that Kaden noticed that something changed.
No matter how much he had brushed it aside, or tried to ignore it, he couldn't deny it anymore. Sitting there, across from Farren Milton, Kaden became certain of something, something he could finally admit to himself.
Kaden Rivers became certain that the feelings he had been having for Farren, were, undeniably not platonic.
Kaden Rivers liked Farren Milton.
