2. Told him
Dedicated to lovenshit , I would do this for you without a second thought.
Reece's POV
"Nattie!" I knock for the umpteenth time on the bathroom stall," Nattie please, I know you're in there. People are asking where you've been." I sing our favourite part of Do You Want To Build A Snowman from Frozen, as another round of sobs sounds from behind the door.
"They say have courage, but I'm trying to. I'm right out here for you. Just let me in...."And at that precise moment, I hear the lock on the door come undone and the door swings open, revealing an awful looking Nat.
The pins that were holding down her hair were now hanging loosely on some strands of her hair. The little to no makeup she had on was now ruined and her eyes were puffy.
"He played me, Ree." She sobbed. I felt my heart break all over again, as I quickly engulfed her into my arms and rubbed her back soothingly whilst she cried on my shoulder.
"I'm sorry. I'm so, so, sorry Nat-"
"How stupid could I be, huh? I mean he is -" , she starts, her voice breaking when she lets out painful sobs.
"Hey, hey, hey." I cup her face, wiping her tears with my thumbs," it's okay. It's okay-"
"No, it's not okay, Ree. It's not. I was stupid and I gave him what he wanted. My dignity."
"You didn't know, okay." She looks to the ground in shame, but I raise her head up to look at me again,"Jase is a player, he's an expert at this, okay? He could've fooled anybody! You couldn't have known. Quite honestly I blame myself for this. I should've trusted my gut, I knew something was off"
I couldn't help but get outraged as I said this to her, my heart was boiling. This douchebag didn't just play with Nat but with me too. My father's words about using what he had taught me to defend myself before a blur and all I could this about was 20 different ways to break his bones.
Nat's hand touching my arm breaks me out of my violent thoughts. I think she knew what I was thinking seeing as she was giving me her 'don't you dare' look.
"Don't hurt him, I'm fine." She says through sniffled breaths, trying to wipe away her tears. I can't believe after what he just did to him she'd still try to defend him. "Please."
"Okay." I breathe, giving her a small reassuring smile," Now clean up and let's get to class. You look like shit." She bursts out laughing, and I join her. She gets to the sink and starts fixing up, and I watch her with a neutral face whilst anger boils inside me.
A minute or two passes, with Nattie fixing up her uniform and wipes at her tears before we head off to next period, which is a free. The empty halls give off an awkward vibe as I was quiet, thinking about all the ways that I can break Jase's face, and Nattie was too quiet drowning in her own sorrow.
We arrive in front our next class, which had noisey students bursting at the seems. We step in and the class goes dead silent, staring at us as we walked deeper into the classroom.
They know. I don't know how, but they knew something.
I look at Nat, finding her looking at the ground. I take her hand in mine, squeezing it reassuringly, letting her know that I've got her back. We make our way through the row of prying eyes, approaching our seats in the back of the class, next to Mac, our best friend. Nat still had her eyes on the ground as we got closer to Mac. She gave me a worried look and gestured to Nat, I only nodded at her in response, silently promising to fill her in later.
We sit down, Nat sitting in the chair between Mac and I. The eyes were still on us, and it was getting tiring. Annoying rather.
"Nattie, my dearest pal." We hear an all too familiar, annoying giggle, before the culprit shows herself. Samantha.
She stood there in her black 6 inch stilettos, black leather skirt and her white body suit, sporting a fake smile. "So... how does it feel to be on the list?"
"The list?" Nattie snaps to looks up, shocked ," What list?"
"Of course there is!" She answers ever so enthusiastically , "and you my dear, just made the top of it. Congrats!"
"Fuck off, Samantha!" Macy cusses, staring at her with dagger eyes. Samantha only pouts in response.
"Aww, Macy ," She coos, "Don't be a hater because they don't give a rat's ass about you. You're just... not easy on the eyes." The class erupt in giggles and hollers as the ice queen smirks.
She then turns to look at me, quirking an eyebrow up in question, the smirk still on her painted pink lips," You don't have anything to say?"
"I don't need to say anything." I shrug, looking at her straight in the eye.
"And why exactly don't you need to say anything?" She slowly stalks up to me, crouching down so that her eyes were level with mine.
I smirk at her, before washing the expression away with a cold one," A; you're dumb, you're not worth my energy. And B; I don't like to say stuff. I'd rather see you after school behind the parking lot." She retreats back to standing, her cocky expression long gone, now replaced with a nervous one. She gulps, making me smile.
"Cool?" I mock, knowing perfectly well that she wouldn't want to fight me and get her perfect nails broken.
Instead of responding, she just turns on her heal and struts away, leaving the class to break out in murmurs again. I look back at Nat, only to see her looking out into the oblivion, clearly lost in her own thoughts. Mac looks at her too, frowns and looks at me in concern. I return her gaze, furrowing my eyebrows in worry.
Time passes by fairly fast before it's lunch, and we find ourselves seated at a silent table.
Nattie continuously taps her fork on her plate whilst staring down at her food disinterestedly. I open my mouth to speak but someone slides into our table, interrupting my train of thoughts.
Mac opens her mouth to speak to Nat but immediately shuts up. She tries to reach her hand out to touch her shoulder but retracts it, and shakes her head to herself. She just needs time.
Mac and I start chatting about nothing in particular, with Nat only nodding her head when we try involving her in the conversation. We continue talking like that until...
There's a riot, yet again, and I know immediately who it might be, but that doesn't stop us from turning our heads towards the door to find The P's heading towards their regular table, which is only a table away from ours. How convenient.
They were yet again laughing amongst each other, as some eyes trail them like lovesick puppies. As they get closer, their conversation becomes louder and clearer.
"Yeah, and then her friend slipped her number bro!" Scott, who I have learnt was the nastiest in the group, said as the group cheered him on and some laughed. "Admit it dudes, I'm the best at this." He muses, earning a scoff from Nate
"Man, come on. Stop fooling yourself, you can never beat this." He says cockily, giving a small turn as if he was doing a runway show.
The guys scoff,"Yeah, sure Nate." Scott says with a roll of his eyes, a smirk plastered on his face, as they keep a slow pace heading towards our table.
"I'm serious man, do you know how many girls I've had these past two weeks?" He asks rhetorically," Six! One for two days at least you know, spread the love." He smirks, passing by our table, making me clench my jaw and fists, glaring daggers at his back.
"Wanna join, sweetheart?" He asks, turning to look at a teary Nattie. I notice how the whole cafeteria was looking at Nat with judgemental eyes, some snickering, and then the whispers came. No doubt spreading false rumors.
Anger overrides me, takes over my senses and I only see red.
I stand up from my seat, and in a minute, I'm standing in front of Scott, Nattie behind me as Macy soothes her down,"Back. Off." I basically growl.
He snickers, no doubt underestimating me,"or what?" He throws back.
"Don't test me Scott, I have had enough of all you." I glare down everyone of them," My only regret is letting that asshole get anywhere near her." I spit through gritted teeth, glaring daggers at Jase who just simply rolls his eyes. I was angry for my friend, I was angry at myself for letting my friend get hurt.
The last thing I'm going to do is sit back as this asshole humiliates her in front of the whole school," Now I'm saying this again, Back. Off. Asshole!"
Leroy holds Scott's shoulder trying to pull him back,"I think we should go, dude." He whispers to him, trying to reason.
He turns around, as if he's walking away. Just as I turn to walk back to my seat, he turns around getting my attention again, he looks over my shoulder and says,"How was it , huh, wou-" he didn't get to finish his sentence as I lifted my knee up to his stomach, with much force, knocking the winds out his pipes.
He bends over, gasping for air, giving me a clean shot of his face. I pull my fist back, delivering a shot right at his "handsome" face, sending him flying to the floor.
I quickly turn around, grab Nattie's hand and pull her up with me. I drag her over his crouched form, heading for the door,"Now look what you made me do." I mumble jumping over him, as he grunts in pain.
I exit the cafeteria with Nat in my hand and Macy in tow,"I told him to back off."
