Different
Phineas and I had been out of it all week. No matter what Candace, Ferb, Buford, Baljeet or anyone says, we've just been staring at the tv, not saying a word.
"I'm worried. This isn't like Phineas at all. Ferb, maybe, but never Phineas." Candace whispered.
Luckily for me, my hearing was still the greatest and I could hear everything they were saying.
"Do you think he was hit by dull-and-boring inator?" Buford asked.
"No, dummy! Isabella broke up with Phineas and Pinky won't talk to Perry! Remember?" Baljeet said.
Phineas and I flinched when we heard this. Phineas must be really sensitive to anything that reminds him of Isabella. We had tacos for dinner the other day and he just sat there and cringed. Not that I was any better.
"Hey, P. Still out of it?" Lyla asked, coming in the house.
I didn't say anything and she just took my hand and stared at me, sadly. Just like all week. She's been here everyday and I haven't even said a word to her.
"Maybe we should bring them over here?" Buford asked.
Phineas and I didn't need any explanation on who they were talking about.
"No!" We shouted and jumped off the couch.
Candace shrieked and the three boys stared at us.
"Phineas? Ferb? Are you ok?" Ferb asked, walking towards us.
I looked at the red headed teen and was reminded of what had happened. We sighed and sat back down.
They all exhaled and looked worried again.
"Hey, are they still...?" Vanessa asked entering the house, followed by Monty.
Ferb flinched but tried to hide it as he saw Vanessa's hand intertwined with Monty's.
"Yea. They're still out of it." Candace answered, her chin in her hands.
"Phineas, Perry, maybe we should get..." Vanessa paused.
"Don't mention those two. These two will panic." Lyla said.
"This is stupid! Just tell them you want back!" Buford yelled, hitting his custom the counter.
"Buford." Baljeet hushed him.
The phone started ringing and Candace answered it.
"Hello?...Ms. Garcia-Shapiro?"
At the mention of Isabella and Pinky's surname, me and Phineas' heads turned quickly.
"What?...Really?...Oh ok I'll tell them...ok bye." Candace hung up.
"Guys, come here." Candace said.
Ferb, Buford, Baljeet, Lyla, Vanessa, and Monty crowded around her as she told them what had happened.
Because there was a sort of barrier around Candace, I couldn't really make out what they said. What I could make out was the distinct sounding of Isabella and Pinky.
Phineas' dull eyes bored into mine and we sighed. Those names were just too much more for us. Phineas had banned the color pink and bows so he would be be reminded more than he wanted to. I, on the other hand, had banned the only thing that reminded me of Pinky. Something so close to me but...it had to be done.
I gave my hat.
I'd also resigned from O.W.C.A. It hurt, but not as much as the pain from being deprived of someone so close to me that I'd gotten so used to.
Her stupid blonde hair, her gross sky blue eyes, her...ugly smile, her...annoying way of always...being there when I needed her...
Boy, would she be pissed when she found out. Monogram was upset but luckily, Monty was there to calm him down. I just can't focus on beating up some idiot 'evil' scientist when all I can think about is...her...
Monogram told me to come back soon after this mess is all over. I really hope that day will come because I feel empty without O.W.C.A to distract me from my problems.
"This is great!" Lyla said.
"No! I mean, I guess. But they're..." Candace started whispering so we wouldn't hear.
Were they talking about us?
"Do you think she'll forgive me?" Phineas whispered, his eyes still blank.
"I'm...sure she will..." I said.
We sighed and looked at the tv. Again.
My watch started beeping and I looked down. Monogram. He was calling me. Oh. I guess I forgot to give my watch when I resigned.
I stood up and went to the stairs to hide my conversation. Lyla and Monty noticed but when they realized it was confidential O.W.C.A business, they nodded and turned back to whisper about whatever they were whispering about.
"Perry? Perry the platypus? Wait. Wait, is this thing on?" Doofenshmirtz's face popped up on the tiny screen next to Monogram's.
"Yes, it's on. Look he's on the screen!" Monogram said.
"Oh good!" Doofenshmirtz clapped. Then his face turned serious.
"Perry the Platypus, I've heard that you're having some difficulties at home but...I heard you resigned!" He started wailing.
"Yes I did." I said, dully.
"Come back, Perry the Platypus! My life has no meaning!" He whined.
"I feel like I should be mad at my dad for something..." Vanessa said, looking up from the huddle.
"Is that Vanessa I hear?" Doofenshmirtz asked, pausing from his crying.
"Yea. She's here." I said.
"Is this why you wanted to follow me to O.W.C.A.? So you could complain to Agent P? Er I mean, ex-Agent P." Monogram looked at me, apologetically.
"I have some thinking to do. So if you please excuse me, I'll get back to it." I started to hang up.
"No, wait! Perry the Platypus!" Doofenshmirtz yelled and I hung up.
I took off my watch and watched it drop to the floor. I hesitated but then I crushed it with my foot as it started beeping again. Separating myself from the only thing that reminded me of her made me feel better.
"Hey, P?" Lyla came over to me and I cringed.
"Oh, um, Perry? Since our date was sorta cut off short last time, would it be ok if I asked you to the mall?" Lyla asked.
"Oh...s-sure." I said.
Why was I thinking about her so much? She wanted to be ignorant? Fine with me. In fact, I'm glad she's gone. She was so annoying. I didn't need her anymore now that I have the girl that I've...wanted.
"Phineas, you want to come with us?" Lyla asked.
"No thanks." Phineas sighed.
"Why don't you go look and see if you can find a gift for Isabella so that she'll take you back? Or find some inspiration to make something for her? I'm sure you're feeling sad of having been deprived of not inventing anything in the last week." Lyla suggested.
Phineas' eyes started to show some focus when she mentioned inventions. It was true that he hadn't made anything in a week. Even I was surprised that he was making anything. Maybe he didn't feel as right making anything without Isabella like how I was with O.W.C.A.
"Ok..." He said, slowly.
"I'll drive. Come on." Lyla said and we followed her out.
"Have fun guys! Vanessa and I are going to get guitar lessons from Jeremy!" Candace waved as she and Vanessa walked towards Jeremy's house.
We waved to them and got in the back of Lyla's truck. I was surprised that Lyla hadn't taken the jet pack. She noticed me staring and shrugged, subtly pointing at Phineas.
I leaned over. "I thought you took the jet packs here."
"We did but then plans changed. I had your weird intern from O.W.C.A. bring it in for me." She explained
"Carl?" I asked. She nodded and I looked out the window to see Carl driving away in an ice cream truck.
"So how you been holding up, Phineas?" Lyla asked, turning the attention to Phineas.
Phineas had his chin in one hand as he stared out the window. His eyes had resumed the blank stare as he sighed, looking over at Isabella's house. He must be taking this harder than me. I mean, not like I was dating Pinky.
"I'm...good..." He muttered.
"You don't look so good." Lyla said.
"...I guess not..." Phineas said.
"Do you like Isabella?" Lyla asked.
Phineas and I looked at her in disbelief.
"I mean like, you just found out she liked you, right?" Lyla said.
"Well, yea. She was my best friend. I didn't know she liked me." Phineas replied.
"Did you like her before she told you? Did you think of her...that way?" Lyla asked.
"...I liked her but...I guess I never thought of her that way. I always thought I'd been friendzoned so I didn't...try I guess." Phineas answered. The air around him started to fill with tension.
"Well, I'm sure she'll forgive you if you give her something from the heart." Lyla said.
"From the heart, huh?" Phineas murmured.
Lyla looked at me worriedly. This was so unlike Phineas, it was starting to worry me, too.
"So wait, did we leave Monty and Ferb at the house?" I asked, changing the subject.
"I'm sure they'll be fine. Those two other boys are there, too." Lyla said.
"Ok..." I said.
I looked out the window and noticed that we were at the Googleplex Mall. [isnt that the name of the mall in Danville?]
"Come on, guys! Let's go shopping!" Lyla hopped out of the car.
We followed her inside. Lyla and I cringed when we saw all the Valentines Day displays around the mall. We turned to Phineas. His hair was now covering his face and the aura around him had turned dark and sad.
"Ah, why don't we get something to eat?" Lyla asked.
"How about Slushy Dawg?" I said.
"Isabella liked Slushy Dawg..." Phineas commented.
"She did? I don't know how you American Slushy Dawgs are but Canada's Slushy Dawgs are terrible." Lyla said.
"Ok, fine. How about Four Bro's?" I asked.
"Four Bro's were her favorite..." Phineas said.
"How about some ice cream?" Lyla asked.
"Favorite dessert." Phineas said.
"Would you like some water then?" Lyla asked, exasperated.
"How about we just look around for a gift." I said.
"Ok." Phineas said.
We walked around until we found Isabella's favorite store, It's A Girl's World.
I hated going into that store because of all the pink and girly froufrou. Lyla was hesitating to go in, too, but Phineas' eyes lit up when he saw it.
"Bows! Isabella loves bows!" Phineas said, running into the store.
"Wait, didn't you ban bows or something." Lyla asked as we followed him inside.
"Phineas? Phineas, where'd you-" I bumped into a girl and I back up.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I wasn't looking where-"
"Perry?" Pinky?
I looked up and my face went pale as I stared into Pinky's eyes.
She was just as surprised as I was. I looked down and Phineas was by my side, staring at Isabella, who he'd bumped into.
"I-I-Isabella?" Phineas said.
"Phineas..." Isabella whispered
They were staring at each other and I noticed Isabella inch her hand towards Phineas. Her eyes were filled with remorse but before she could take hold of Phineas' hand, Pinky put her hand on her shoulder and shook her head, fiercely. Isabella seemed to remember what had happened and pulled back. They swished their hair in our faces before they left.
Phineas had a lovesick smile and started following like a lost puppy.
"Was that Isabella and Pinky I saw, Perry?" Lyla asked coming up to us.
"Yea..." I said, pulling on the back of Phineas' shirt before he left the store.
Pinky...she looked good...did she miss me...?
