"Yeah, yeah," she said. As she walked up to him she mumbled under her breath. He caught something along the lines of "stupid jerk!" He smirked before tugging on her arm, causing her to lose her balance slightly and stumble forward.
"Let's go," he laughed lightly. She let herself smile at him too.

The day after buying their clothes, May and Drew had spent the day enjoying the beach, allowing them to relax before taking on the stresses of traveling the next day. So the next day at 7:30 am sharp May and Drew found themselves at the port standing in a large crowd waiting to board the large ship that would be taking them to Johto.
"Hey, Drew? I never asked, where exactly is this boat dumping us off at?" May asked him as she peeled her gaze from the boat to look at him, awaiting an answer.
"Oh, there's a small port in Cherrygrove City, that's where we'll arrive. After that we can register for our contest pass at the Pokemon Center." He explained to her. She nodded in understanding.
"I see... it'll be soooo nice to see Johto again! I wonder how much has changed since I moved?" She thought aloud excitedly. The ship's horn knocked her out of her daydream as the line began to move forward. When they finally got to the front, there was an older lady standing there to check the tickets. She stamped their tickets with a red stamper, giving them a harsh scowl as she did so, mumbling under her breath about kids these days with their rich parents to afford the tickets.
May frowned to herself as they walked in. Then she saw how nice the interior was. Definitely not overly classy, but nice enough to where the tickets would be worth a bit, definitely a testament to the older woman's bitterness at them.
"Drew! This place is so nice! How much did these tickets cost?!" May asked him in awe.
"Not as much as you think," He chuckled before leading her forward by gently pushing his hand on her back.
"How do we know what room we're in?" She asked as they continued through the entrance. Drew pointed towards a desk where people were already forming a line.
"Our ticket has our room number on it," he said as he waved his ticket in front of her face. Her cheek poofed up in an annoyed pout at his action. "That man at the desk will look at our ticket and give us our keycards," he smirked at her pout.
"Sorry I've never been on a boat before!" She said sarcastically as she crossed her arms.
"You're excused," he said smugly. She let out an annoyed growl. He laughed at the sound. "It's not like the Pokemon Center where you can just walk up and get a room, you have to reserve it, like actual hotel rooms," he explained.
"Thank you Smarty Pants," she deadpanned.
"I am an intellectual," he agreed with her. Her pout broke into a laugh against her will.
"Yeah, whatever lets you sleep at night," she laughed. He joined her in laughter. Not long after, it was their turn at the desk. The lobbyist examined their tickets before giving them 2 room keys. They took them and headed on their way. The ship wasn't extremely big, about two floors of rooms. Their room was on the second floor. On the first floor was the dining room, pool, arcade, gym, and battle arena. The second floor was just all rooms with a doorway that led to the deck of the ship. After taking a brief tour of the ship, they located their room number and went inside.
It was a decent sized room. Two queen sized beds, and a bathroom. Across from the beds was a small living space with a couch and TV. Lastly, there was a small kitchenette next to the living space and across from the bathroom. May and Drew decided to bring their own food so that they wouldn't have to pay to eat for the 4 days they would be on the ship. They unloaded their food, consisting of granola bars and other more snacky foods that wouldn't spoil.
May then walked into the bathroom to discover there was a washing machine and dryer inside. She walked back out to find the coat closet, and when she opened the door, she found detergent on the top shelf. That was perfect, she could wash her new clothes before she wore them, and in addition, wash their clothes before they start their long journey where it wouldn't always be so easy to clean them. She struggled and jumped to reach the shelf, but she was too short. She let out puffs of frustration, unwilling to admit defeat against the taunting shelf. Her fingers just barely brushed the surface of the shelf when she was caught off guard.
"What are you doing?" Drew asked as he came up behind her, suddenly very close to her. She was practically standing in the closet, which wasn't really big enough for a person anyway. However, Drew was standing in the doorway, leaning against his arm as his hand gripped the door frame. She whipped around, startled, to find a surprising lack of space. May wasn't sure she had ever been this close to him in this way. She found herself letting go of a breath she had been holding in.
"I'm trying to grab the detergent!" She frowned at him, wishing he would take just a step back so she could breathe without smelling him. Not that he smelt bad. For a teenage boy, he didn't smell like the gaggle of boys she had traveled with for a couple of years. Also, Drew just had one of those presences that really steal attention and take up space, which was making her feel really weird at the moment. She shoved the feeling in her stomach down that she didn't have a name for and waited for his response as she crossed her arms.
"If you needed help, all you had to do was ask," he chuckled at her. She turned back around, stubbornly.
"I don't need your help!" She said fiercely.
"Uh huh, suure," he said, watching her through observant eyes. She struggled again to jump and reach it. She turned back around to glower at him.
"Just stop it already, let me help you," he said softly, and suddenly, he was reaching over her to grab the detergent. He was even closer than before and suddenly she realized that he had grown quite a bit taller than her. They used to be about the same height, he was maybe even a bit shorter than her when they first met, but now, he stood a proud 8 inches taller than her, and he had only just begun growing. She knew that he was about a little over a year older than her, but she didn't really acknowledge it until now. Now that he was standing super close to her and handing her the bottle of detergent.
"Thank you," she said quietly, all the anger from before quickly deflated like a balloon from all her strange feelings revolving around the encounter. She took the bottle before brushing past him and heading back into the bathroom where she set it on the counter.
"Hey Drew!" She called.
"What?" He answered from the main room.
"Give me your clothes!" She told him as she began to open the lid of the washing machine.
"I'm sorry, what?" He said, suddenly in view of the doorway. May was quiet for a second before her face began to redden with the heat of embarrassment and she dropped the lid. It slammed down startling them both as May began to stutter her way trying to sort out the mess.
"Oh my gosh! That came out wrong," she said, covering her face with her hands. "I meant that I'm washing clothes, so you should bring them in here, including your new clothes, so they can be clean for when we travel again," she said, her face still red.
"Okay," he breathed. He turned to leave before stopping and turning to her again.
"Do you want me to grab your backpack too?" He asked.
"Yeah, that would be great," she said quietly. "Thank you," she added quickly, and watched him disappear from the doorway. She internally chastised herself, what in the world was that! Why would she say such a thing! She was still feeling weird from the coat closet incident. She was so embarrassed herself and whatever this weird feeling that was starting to come up.
She didn't get much time to continue to sort herself out before he came back. He entered the bathroom with her backpack in one hand, and a bundle of clothes in the other. He set her bag on the counter and she moved towards it, out of his way as he deposited his clothes into the washing machine. He silently left as he had come, leaving her there as she pulled her clothes out of her bag and into the wash. After her spectacle, things were sure to be awkward, but also, whatever the heck that was earlier was definitely messing with her head. What was going on with her?

Oh my gosh. What in the world have I just written XD. I'm so sorry for this. I finished this after I uploaded chapter 6, but it's still Sunday so HA! I still did it! Anyways, this is so weird. I wanted to create a bit of awkwardness and tension, and I think I did maybe? But I don't know about that scene in the closet. I want this to be a slow burn, and with the title being Platonic, I wanted to try and establish that they are starting to get interested in each other, or at least May is starting to get interested in him, however, they try to label it platonic, when it definitely gets to a point where it isn't anymore.
I feel like this scene might have been a curveball and like I wasn't in the right place of the story to put it there, but they have had plenty of interactions in the past over the course of the series where they had already warmed up to each other much more, even Solidad telling May she though Drew liked her, so I feel like, them already feeling a little bit towards each other prior to starting to their journey together, would have one of these moments occurring earlier on and then them being super awkward about it because it's weird and they hadn't been traveling for long.
Anyways, enough rambling before I spoil the whole book trying to justify myself for writing this wack scene XD. Take care, until next time! I hope you all are feeling well! <3
