Chapter 58: Back to Johto

Previously...

Then the door shut behind her and May was left, tied up and alone in the office once more.

Team Rocket truly was attacking the contest halls because of her, all along. This was the reason her mom didn't want her to go to Johto in the first place, but she had thought she was just being overprotective. She never would have guessed that things would turn out this way. But now she had nothing but time to let it sink in as she waited for her mother to arrive.

There are many perks of being the only son of the richest family in all of Hoenn. Growing up, Drew got to experience quite a few of them. Luxurious vacations, the highest quality clothes, the finest cuisine cooked by the family's private chefs, any toy or game he ever wanted. He took it all for granted, and ran away in an act of rebellion, and it was hard at first to adjust to such a different life, always the road. However, that experience gave him much more perspective on reality and taught him many difficult life lessons. He had everything, but he also knew what it was like to not have it.

As much as he didn't really want to be the next face of LaRousse Tech, he had to admit, his family's private jet flying hundreds of miles per hour towards the Johto region was way better than trying to sneak away from the mansion for the third time and board a boat or book a last minute plane ticket. It was a mere matter of hours before he would end up back in Mahogany Town and back to that shady souvenir shop to try and find May. He could only hope he wasn't too late.

He wondered what Team Rocket could possibly want from her. The only living things they typically stole were pokemon. He's never heard of them kidnapping people. Sure, maybe stealing from them or holding them hostage to ransack their building, but never kidnapping. Maybe her father being a gym leader had something to do with it? Could they be trying to lure him to their base for his daughter in order to take his "powerful" pokemon away from him? It sounded like some sort of scheme they would try to cook up. Especially if those two weirdos Jessie and James were behind it. Though it was far more likely they were after Ash's Pikachu in the Sinnoh region.

His foot tapped nervously on the ground.

He should have controlled his jealousy. None of this would have happened if he hadn't let his perception of Brendan as a threat drive his actions. Now, May was potentially in danger, and he had to leave behind his most trusted partner pokemon as proof he would return home. His belt felt much lighter without Roserade's pokeball where it should be.

The fact he also promised his mother he would marry whoever she wanted him to laid heavily on his chest. With that promise, he had little hope that in the future he and May would someday find their way back to each other in a miraculous twist of fate. That they would someday get a chance. That foolish dream was nothing but an idealistic thought to help keep his resolve and to not give in to fully loving her.

But it was pointless. He was giving in already anyway, all this time. The moment he saw her again, it would all be over. He wouldn't be able to lie to himself anymore that he could live without her if he never knew what it was like to have her. Because he already had so much of her. He knew the warmth of her embrace, he had wiped away her tears, and he had tasted her lips.

He wanted her so desperately, and now he's at his limit. He had to have her. Even for the short time they had left. She was right. It was better to get the chance to love her with the time they had left than to never truly know what it would have been like to be with her.

The flight could not have been over soon enough. The rest of the flight was torturous as he anxiously waited to touch down, and getting through customs at the Ecruteak Airport was terrible. Mahogany Town was still quite a ways to go on foot. If only he had a Pokemon that could use teleport. Instead, Flygon would have to do. Once out the airport, he let the dragon type out of its ball, climbed up onto its back, and directed it eastward.

Another couple of agonizing hours to go before he would finally be back. It had been five days total that he had been out of the region.

On the way, he debated his next course of action. He could storm the building alone which was dangerous, or he could alert the local authorities and have them raid the building. He was sure they would love to know the location of the Team Rocket base. They probably wouldn't let him join though. And what if May wasn't there after all? She wasn't picking up his calls so she could either be ignoring him purposefully, or they really did take her and they took her DexNav to prevent her from contacting anyone for help.

He contacted Solidad and asked her to try to call May, but she couldn't get through to her either. This made Drew more confident in his assumption that May was still being held hostage.

When he finally landed, he tracked down the police station. He threw open the door, breathing heavily from practically running there.

"Team Rocket kidnapped my friend! But I saw the building they went into. That shady souvenir shop in town is their base of operations, I'm sure of it! Please help me rescue her!" Drew said desperately, mentally and physically exhausted from his travels. Officer Jenny quirked her eyebrow in response.

"I knew I thought I was seeing an unusual amount of those hooligans around. We'll get a team together right away to investigate. Please, lead the way," she said.

A/N

Hey guys! This chapter ended up being shorter than I wanted it to be, but I worked today on my feet for five hours, I sprained my ribs the other day, and I'm getting over a sickness of some sort, so I'm incredibly exhausted and in pain and I kept falling asleep while writing the chapter. So this is all I can manage for now. I have a 3k word short story due for my creative writing class Sunday night that I only have 400 words for so I need to continue working on that as well...

Anyways, I hope this was enough to tide you over for now! Until next time,
