Chapter 27: Overwhelmingly Feelings
Previously...
"What do you mean you won't give up?" May asked. He smirked mischievously at her before sealing his tent.
"That was rude! Whatever, see you in the morning," she pouted and drug herself to her tent.

He awoke from another nightmare. He focused on slowing down his breathing. His heart was still pounding out of his chest. Once he could push the thoughts out of his head, he leaned back and looked at the ceiling of his tent. Judging by the light filtering through the walls, it was early morning. He laid like that for a few more minutes before getting ready and taking his tent down. 20 minutes later he was finished up shoving the collapsed tent into his backpack.
Brendan emerged from his tent rubbing his eye and letting out a huge yawn. When Brendan noticed him, his yawn was taken over by a slight grimace. He hesitantly walked over to him. Drew looked up at him from the ground.
"Hey, I want to apologize for yesterday," he said.
"Oh, um, okay," Drew said, surprised.
"I was a jerk to you because I was jealous," Brendan admitted. A sudden wave of respect rushed over Drew. Brendan was able to apologize and admit when he was wrong. Brendan sat down across from him.
"I guess, I wanted to steal her away, but after last night, I realized that it wouldn't be easy. You should know she thinks very highly of you," he said. Drew wasn't even sure what he was supposed to say, but a warm feeling came over him when Brendan said May thought highly of him.
"But, I won't give up on her, and I won't apologize for that," Brendan said determinedly. Drew smirked.
"You know, you're a pretty cool guy," Drew said as he stood up. He offered a hand to Brendan and he accepted. He helped him up and they shook hands.
"But, I won't lose," Drew said confidently.
"We'll see," Brendan grinned. Their attention was captured by the zipping sound of a tent. May was up. She was a total mess. She had a bed head and her pajamas were ruffled and she was barefoot. But still, she was adorable.
"What are you guys doing?" She asked tiredly.
"I was just apologizing to him," Brendan explained.
"Oh, good!" She said. "Well I'm gonna get ready, I'll talk to you all in a few," she yawned.
"You better not fall back asleep," Drew teased. She turned her head at him and stuck out her tongue childishly before heading back in her tent.
It suddenly dawned on him. Hard. Like a sack of bricks. He had feelings for her. He wasn't sure just how deep yet, but they were definitely there. The weight of the realization was so heavy he almost had to sit back down. May and all her dorkish charm had managed to make him fall for her. He wasn't sure why but he wanted to laugh, cry, and scream all at the same time.
Until those bright feelings were suddenly crushed by the heavy weight of anxiety.
Oh no.
He had feelings for her.
What was going to happen in the future? He couldn't stay with her forever, he'd have to go home eventually. He couldn't hurt her. And if she didn't feel the same? He decided that it was best nothing came of it. Despite what he told Brendan. He didn't want to hurt her and he didn't want to get hurt. Even though he couldn't choose his feelings, he could choose to ignore them. That was what he was going to do.

Forget what he said. Brendan was not cool. But he was honest when he said he wasn't giving up. He was very determined. Drew walked along with gritted teeth and clenched fists as Brendan flirted with May. He was frustrated that he was so mad about it, after all, he decided that he would suppress his feelings for her. Despite how much he hated it, Brendan was good for her.
They were playfully joking and at every chance he got, Brendan would initiate contact. Drew had to look away. May seemed happy though, and if he was what she wanted, then he'd grin and bear it. He'd had plenty of practice holding himself back. What was most important was her, and her feelings. He slowed down a bit and gave them a bit of space and walked behind. After a minute or two, May shot him a side glance with a confused look. He looked at Brendan and then at her and raised his eyebrows suggestively. May sputtered and her face flushed red.
"What?" Brendan asked quickly, concerned.
"Nothing!" May squeaked. Brendan looked back at him with a good natured glare. Drew shrugged at him.
Before too long, they finally arrived in Azalea Town. Their first stop was the Pokemon Center. May called her house and Max picked up. Drew stood to the side, out of the view of the camera.
"Oh, hey May, what are you doing?" He asked.
"I'm sending Munchlax home and getting Bulbasaur back from Professor Oak," May explained.
"Oh really!? I'll take great care of him!" Max said excitedly as May put her pokeball in the transfer slot.
"Got it!" Max said and held Munchlax's pokeball up. Brendan came into the room, and waved at Max at the camera.
"Brendan! What are you doing there?" Max asked.
"We ran into him on our way to Azalea Town so he just came with us. Oh, also, tell Mom that I'm here," May explained.
"It's good to see you," Brendan smiled at him.
"Yeah! you too!" Max said ecstatically.
"Sorry to break up the bromance, but I've got to call Professor Oak. Bye Max, love you," she said and hung up on Max before he could protest.
The screen turned dark until Professor Oak picked up.
"Oh! May! Hello," he said surprised. "You must be calling about your Bulbasaur," he guessed.
"Yeah," she confirmed.
"Give me just a moment!" He said and walked off screen. He returned a few minutes later with a pokeball.
"Do you have a space on your team?" He asked.
"Yeah, I sent Munchlax back home," May confirmed.
"Perfect!" He said before putting the pokeball on the transfer slot. A few seconds passed before the pokeball appeared on May's side of the screen.
"Thank you so much!" May said.
"Not a problem May, you take care now!" He said and ended the call. The three of them went back into the main lobby.
"You never told me you knew Professor Oak!" Brendan exclaimed.
"I know him through Ash, that's all," May explained.
"Ah. Oh! You should come watch my gym battle! You did promise that you'd watch one!" He said.
"May! Drew!" A voice called suddenly. His head snapped towards the girl with pink brown hair running towards them with a short blonde girl trailing hesitantly behind.
"Brianna! Hi!" May exclaimed.
"It's so good to see you two!" She smiled brightly.

-A/N-
Yes, this is early. Technically not at the same time because I'm changing my update schedule! School is starting up on Tuesday for me and so I can't stay up late working on a chapter Sunday night when I have school in the morning so I changed it to Friday. Also, why I didn't upload it Sunday this week is because I'm going out of town this weekend so I won't be able to post. You guys know I don't like to let you down!
Anyways, with school I'll see if I can keep up writing every week, but if I can't, I might have to change my schedule again to not as often. I'll try my best though! Anyways, I hope you all enjoyed this chapter. It's a pretty important one and it was a fun type of torture to write if that makes any sense. This story is much bigger than I anticipated and I'm getting a bit overwhelmed XD. I'll try my best to keep up though.
