This is a species that comes out only on nights with no moon and no stars.

They don't come from Hadari; no one knows where they're truly from. They aren't friendly at all, either.

If you look one in the eyes, you temporarily become paralyzed. If they notice you, they absorb your energy, turning you into stone for eternity...or at least until they reverse it...which they rarely do.

Females have smaller horns (the picture above shows a female), and the males have larger horns.

All of them have a gem in their forehead, but only Royals (there are only two Royals per clan — yes, they live in clans...and there are several clans — one male Royal, one female Royal, usually mates) have gems in their chests as well.

There may or may not be a future book where one of the clans is the main enemy...
