||. CHAPTER 3: APPA .||

Upon receiving a message from her elder brother, Arthur, Rachael immediately ran out of her cubical heading towards the Research Department to meet him. Her grey eyes were filled with hope and a longing desire to reunite with the ones she loved. Punching in some buttons into the pad of the cylinder, she tapped her finger nervously on the G-Tab she was holding. It had been months since she had met him. Excitement was burning in her veins yet somewhere in between her heart, she felt that something was not right. Something seemed to be out of order. Once she had reached the floors of the Research Department, she punched in the numbers before scanning her G-Tab on it.

Everyone in the Research Department were searching through their files while some were handling new experiments specifically on new pills or liquids to enhance their survival on Mars. Pushing her thick spectacles up, Rachael headed towards the last chamber of the floor, ready to give the transparent door a soft knock. However, she halted her tracks upon seeing Captain Chen in her brother's room. Arthur seemed to be in tense as his black eyes widened before flipping his hair backwards bowing towards Captain Chen. The older man walked out of the room, walking past Rachael with a smile before he was approached by another researcher from the other corner of the room.

"Brother." Rachael called out as she turned around to close the door, making sure no one could hear their conversation. "Where is appa? What happened to him? Uncle Chen came. I saw your face. Don't lie to me. What happened?"

Arthur stared at his younger sister for a moment. Silently, he is trying to digest the information he had just received earlier. There is no way to hide the news about their father. Soon, the news would spread and the whole entire Mars would know about him. Tapping onto the G-Tab he was holding, the invisible walls around them turned opaque and soundproof. He headed over to the corner of the room, picking up two cups of coffee which was newly brewed by his personal robot, R-20. Arthur gestured his younger sister to sit on the couch with him and Rachael obediently obeyed.

"Appa is back. But he isn't like before. I have not gotten any further information about it, but the President had ordered Dr. Song to have a full check up on him. The Research Department here will be handling notes, logs and pictures appa had taken down and..." Arthur explained looking at his calm sister who was sipping onto the coffee, partially frowning.

Rachael studied her brother's features for a moment as she settled the cup down on the table. "And you are not allowed to be a part of it." When Arthur nodded, Rachel smirked. "This is appa we are talking about. I would do anything to get all the information. I am not letting appa under their hands without me knowing what they are doing."

"I know what you mean. Check your personal database. I have sent some information in it. Remember to use Code Yellow when you open it. We need a plan, but this is definitely not the best time to talk about it. I will talk to you about it tonight." Arthur assured once he had gotten a message from his superior.

Rachel finished up her coffee, nodding to what her elder brother had mentioned. "Be careful, brother. Things are about to get a lot messier than before."

Arthur grinned. "Dirtier. I will. You too. Stay safe on the field."

The younger stood up as she spun her G-Tab with her fingers, walking out of her brother's room confidently. Rachael headed back into her chambers, knowing that she would not need to be out in the field till four in the evening. Making sure that her chamber was locked, Rachael settled her G-Tab down before slipping herself under her bed, removing a plank which was fitted perfectly in the middle of their bunk beds. Once she had made sure the correct wire, Rachel slipped out of her bed to grab her G-Tab and attached it to her phone. Every single data Arthur had sent to her was connected to the Yellow Base they have both created on their own, away from all the systems in Roaming 95. Privacy and personal space, that's what they would call it.

Here on Mars, every G-Tab and modern systems are connected through a network which would eventually lead up to Tower 49. Tower 49 is a secure area where only workers of Class 1 would be able to enter the area. Every single information of the inhabitants on Mars would be known by these officers. Every single call, posts, comments, forums, meetings and messages would be known by Tower 49. Usually, they would ignore unimportant ones, but if they do pass through any offensive or inappropriate information, they would hunt you down right through your cubical. Transparency was what the President called it, but to the Halton siblings, they called it as trespassing privacies.

Ever since they moved to Mars, Arthur had been working a way out to ensure that whatever dark informations they had gotten would not known by Tower 49. When their father was sent out for a mission, the plan worked way easier for them. So, they both cooperated by stealing a new G-Tab from the Technological Site during the early days before robots were installed to secure the areas. Powering it up with their own customized system, they managed to form a small storage information right under their beds. Rachael had ensured that the size of the insertion was customize differently from any other's to prevent anyone from having access to it. They prevented internet connections on their customized G-Tab, including the fact that once a G-Tab is connected to their Yellow Base, it would be untraceable from Mars. So, instead of having one, they have two, for convenience.

Technologies – Rachael thought. Technologies are her specialty. She loved customized modern technologies into outstanding ones. Technologies could abuse human's mind and even drove them into a world of reality and surreality. It would be able to fake and tell the truth. The wonders of having such magnificent technologies, allowing humans to customize their own ways into a world, just like how the President has customized his own power to send research teams in every single planet without having their family's consent. Once Rachael had installed all the information in the Yellow Base, she removed her G-Tab, slipping it in between the cracks of the Base so that it would be secure from the higher authorities.

Once she had settled the information in a secure system, Rachael headed towards her wardrobe pulling out her silver attire and put it on. Her mind began to wonder about her father. She was mad to watch him disappeared in the middle of the night right after their mother's death only to appear again a day before they all were transported to Mars, but he was their only hope and the fact that he had been such an encouragement made her forgave him. Either way, he is their father. She would not be able to get a father who loves them so dearly. There was a reason why he disappeared that though she did not know it now, she would probably get to know about it soon enough. Braiding her pony tail, Rachael picked up her G-Tab before heading towards Base 95.

Several trainees were there already, their arms holding weapons made out of micro and nano technologies. Heading towards the Grey Room, Rachael made her way to her cylinder. Humans on Mars do not need to wear a helmet to breathe. That was something she adored most. She could not picture an image of her wearing a helmet while fighting any unwanted aliens on their planet. Dancing her fingers around the test-tubes, Rachael swallowed down the purple liquid which contains a kind of chemical allowing them to stabilize their human system and synchronized it with the surroundings on Mars. She immediately picked up her own weapons as she put on those pair of white boats and headed out to the base.

"Rachael!" A boy with dark skin and charming brown eyes ran towards her.

"Samuel. Hey." She smiled as she joined him, heading towards the corner of the base to wait for their turn. "How are you doing?"

"I am fine. What about you?" Samuel questioned and immediately handed her a blue rose, surprising her with it.

"No way!" Rachael squealed as she took the rose in her palms. "You just grew a flower. I bet this is going to be a hit in Farm 89, didn't you? How did you do it? It's beautiful. I like it."

Samuel run his palms on his hair with a small smile on his lips. "You know, loads of research. The only key to grow flowers are that we need the correct amount of chemicals. I think I have quite an over dosage of Liquid 20. Liquid 20 was not used in this plant."

Rachael raised her eyebrows at Samuel. "Oh, come on, Sammy, speak English. I know we were in the same class before, but have you forgotten that I am not major in Botanical Sciences."

"Oh, yes..." Samuel rubbed his neck nervously as he chuckled. "Liquid 20 is a fertilizer containing vegetable cells, mutated with flowers. It can only be used on fruits but not flower based plants. I think I can send in a report to the Research Department to make sure that they extract a new liquid specialized for flowers."

Rachael handed the blue rose back to Samuel. "Well, I am pretty sure they will be happy about it. You know, keep them busy and all. It would be way better than not to have anything to do. Here you go. You might want to keep your first flower as a remembrance for your long late nights."

"No. No." Samuel reached out, holding onto her palms before retreating them back nervously, "Sorry. Um, what I mean is you can have it, Rachael. I want to share my success with you since you have been encouraging me on it. Keep it. I will send you some fertilizers to ensure its survival."

"That's very sweet of you, Samuel. I will be sure to keep it alive." Rachael spoke as she settled it next to the bag Samuel had brought and patted his shoulders, "Let's go, Captain Manor is here."

Roaming 95 is the main tower in Mars and only those who are closer to the President would be able to have access to Roaming 95. Captain Stefan Halton had been the best researcher and the best spaceship driver thus he earned a place in Roaming 95 ever since before mankind moved to Mars. There was a place reserved for his family, thanks to his hard work. There are all together fifteen towers in Mars, range from Roaming 80 to Roaming 95. Those in Roaming 95 consists of the families of important personals. However, there is always a chance to get kicked out or even being eliminated from Mars itself. Every planet has their own dark secrets don't they, just like Earth. Though it bears a strong existence of mankind, there is always something in between which would be its destruction.

Rachael felt a strong blow right above her forehead as she grunted when her back hit the ground. Her grey eyes unfocused as she sat up from the cold ground, her weapons flew to the side of it, laying proudly like a gold trophy. In front of her was none other than the famous playboy on Mars, Jonathan Jones Mc. Conner, the son of the President itself. Jonathan chuckled as he leaned down closer to her only to earn a strong punch on his face as she wrapped her arms around his neck, swinging herself up on his shoulders. The elder boy groaned as he tried to shake her off only to have her tightened her grip around his neck.

"Stop! Rachael, stop!" Captain Manor shouted as he headed over to both his trainees. "Stop it! Training's over! Cut it out!"

Rachael jumped down from his shoulders easily, sending a kick to his knee before standing in her own position. Jonathan stood next to her with a swell cheek and a bruised lip. As Captain Manor headed towards the other side to collect Rachael's whip, Jonathan smirked leaning closer to the shorter girl till he was at her eye level.

"Have you gotten your father's disease? Are you going to be mad like him?" He grinned as he watched her eyes shone in anger.

Without wasting another second, Rachael sent another kick right under his upper thighs causing the boy to growl at the pain. She looked out at Samuel who gave her two thumbs up at the other corner. She pushed her fringes backwards before turning to look at the boy who had stood up proudly again as if nothing had ever happened, but Rachael saw that he is trying to supress the pain on the inside. When Captain Manor had returned her whip, dismissing them all, Rachael turned to look at Jonathan.

"Just because you are the President's one and only son, that does not mean I won't kick your ass, Jonathan Jones. This...," Rachael said pointing onto his chest. "Is just a small warm up for my future torments if you plan on doing the same thing again."

Rachael headed over to the Grey Room to change into her normal attire, slipping her G-Tab into her hoodie before racing her way back to her room. She needed confirmation about what Jonathan had mentioned, something about craziness. That must be the reason why he is in need of doing check-up. It cannot be. Appa cannot be crazy. Jonathan must be crapping. – Rachael kept telling herself as she reached her room, punching the numbers in it. Arthur was already on his top bunk, his body jerked up upon hearing the clicking on their doors. His black eyes studied her features and immediately jumped down from the top bunk.

"I know." Arthur spoke up. "I just knew about it. I..."

"It cannot be. He did not go mad when mama died. He cannot be crazy, Arthur, something is wrong somewhere. I know it. We need to..."

Arthur reached out, grabbing his sister tight in his arms as he patted her head gently. He could see the anger and sadness burning through her grey orbs. Arthur felt her grip tightened around him. Breathing in the scent of their room, Arthur settled her down on the bed gently, brushing her pink puffy cheeks as he chuckled softly. Arthur had always found her adorable.

"Look, Rachael. I have been blocked from all access about appa. I can't possibly get any information easily. We need a plan to make sure we would be able to know what fully happened. They are going to set up a blockade on us. We need to work together." Arthur suggested.

Rachael nodded with a grin. "That's for sure. For that, we need to get an invitation first."

"Invitation?" Arthur frowned. "This is not a ball, Rach."

"I already did, Arthur."

"How?"

When Rachael gave her elder brother her dirty smirk, he buried his head in her pillow. "I told you not to mess with him. This is not an invitation. This is a free ticket to the Red Rack."

Rachael grinned. "I don't care as long as I get appa back."
