That 'friend' huh?

Pamela woke up with a smile on her face. Work had been going smoother than she'd anticipated. She had kept in contact with Jane, who explained each task Pamela had to do with great efficiency. Jane made things simple to remember. She also patiently listened as the plum-brunette ranted.

Pamela had ranted. She ranted about her Ex. She ranted about having to repay her brother. The model had found herself opening up about her inferiority complex to the faceless secretary. It was odd, but Pamela felt that she had gained a friend. Someone who didn't lecture her or make her feel like she wasn't as talented as her siblings.

Jane Blair just listened to Pamela. The model never realized how great that felt. She also found that her newfound buddy was quite funny. She laughed, remembering how Jane told her, she should have kicked her Ex between the legs before the police dragged her away. Why didn't she do that?

The icing on this delicious cake was the look on her baby brother's face when she informed him of Jane's helping her. Thus, Jane demanded payment. Ricky flipped! He had lectured Pamela but stopped when Jane asked to speak with him. Pamela didn't know what Jane had said to her brother, but it felt good seeing her boastful brother cave to his secretary. Where did Jane get that kind of power?

Pamela wondered if Jane could teach her that trick. Stretching her arms, she got up and ready for another day. Jane had sounded better yesterday, so Pamela hoped today she'd come into work. Jane mentioned she would be up for it now that her flu had eased up.

It was the incentive she needed to face the day.

While the older Evens hurried to work, the younger one took his time, anxious about the day that awaited him. Jane had chewed him out after hearing him lecture Pam. She stated it was unfair of him to force his sister in a job, she had never done before. Walking Pam through the workload would be beneficial for both Ricky and her. It would ensure things were done correctly and Jane wouldn't have to return to double the workload.

Ricky couldn't argue with that. Jane had cowed him. Although he accepted this, it still stabbed at his pride. This was supposed to be a punishment for his sister. Yet, she had managed to win over his secretary and Pam had been enjoying her talks with Jane. 'This isn't fair.'

Jane was his secretary. He was supposed to be close to her - not his sister.

The two siblings made it to work at the same time. Upon seeing her brother, Pamela cheerfully greeted him. "Baby brother."

Ricky resisted the urge to roll his eyes. This was a workplace - Ricky thought she'd be respectful. Did you catch the hypocrisy? "Pam." He noted his sister carried two Starbucks bags. Pointing to the items, he questioned, "Is one for me?"

"You wish." Pamela stuck out her tongue. She guarded the package as if it were a sack of gold. Smiling proudly, Pamela informed Ricky that one of her bags was for Jane. "This will be my first meeting with her face-to-face. I want to make a great impression!"

'There she goes again.' Ricky thought, feeling a bit salty. The two siblings walked inside, side by side. It was obvious they were siblings. They were three years apart but people often assumed they were fraternal twins. The law firm workers agreed with one another that the Evens siblings were out of this world. They felt extremely blessed by their presence, but their opinions didn't matter.

All the Evens siblings could focus on was the secretary who had been away for a week. Without noticing it, Ricky and Pamela picked up their speed, racing one another to greet the ravenette first. Ricky made it to the elevator first. Hastily he stepped inside and pressed the button to head up. To his greatest dismay, Pamela made it in time: sticking a hand inside, successfully preventing the doors from closing.

Neither one won the race. They made it to Ricky's office at the same time. Ricky's heart stopped at the sight of his secretary. 'She's still so pale.' He noted. The only color on Jane's face was the dust of red on her nose. Jane wore her hair in a low ponytail today. She also had a fuzzy scarf wrapped around her. It was clear she hadn't fully recovered. 'Yet she still came in today.'

Ricky had the thought to scold his secretary for coming in today. That if she wasn't one hundred percent better, she should have stayed in bed. However, his sister, Pamela had cut him off.

"My life-saver!" Pamela squealed, skipping over to the dark brunette. "It's so good to finally meet you."

Jane looked up at Pamela. The tall model shone so brightly, that Jane had to squint her eyes. Pamela had told her she was Ricky's Evens sister. It still surprised the plain secretary to see the almost identical features between the two Evens. Pamela was the female version of Ricky, but her personality reminded Jane a bit of Quinn. They both were so animated in their speech but respectful of other people's spaces.

Jane noted this as Pamela held out a Starbucks bag to her. She made sure not to thoughtlessly put it on Jane's desk without permission. Thankful at the gesture, Jane gave the model her full attention. Standing up from her chair, Jane accepted the offering. "It's nice to meet you as well, Ms. Evens."

Pamela playfully pouted. "That's too informal! Call me Pamela or Pam - not Ms. Evens!"

Jane hesitated; the thought of calling her boss's sister by her first name felt awkward. She briefly wondered if it was inappropriate, considering her position. It wasn't in her job description and Pamela was considered another employee for the time being. Taking those facts into consideration, Jane nodded.

"Ok." Her head hurt when Pamela cheered. Yup. Jane could see Quinn getting along with this lady.

"I can't wait to work with you, Jan!" Pamela sung. "I hope you like the breakfast. I'm going to hang up my stuff: be right back."

As Pamela sped away, Jane sat back down. 'She's sweet.' She looked down at the bag, amused. She was happy she'd agreed to help Pamela via phone and email. The woman had kept Jane entertained during the isolating week she had. Turning to her boss, Jane greeted him good morning as well.

Ricky wasn't jealous: Not in the least bit jealous. Nope. He was glad his older sister and his secretary were getting along just dandily. Why would he be jealous over that? He didn't care One. Tiny. Bit.

"Morning, Janie." He gave his dazzling smile. Jane's eyebrows twitched, but she remained indifferent to the pet name. That was progress. "How are you feeling?" Ricky asked. He had been worried about her throughout the week.

There were moments when Ricky wanted to snatch the phone out of Pamela's hand and ask Jane how she was. If she needed anything more or if the heating pad had been working. It had even crossed the paralegal's mind to visit Jane again, but he had restrained from acting on that impulse. It was hard even now. Ricky had the urge to take Jane's face in his hands and examine her pale face.

"I'm doing better, boss," Jane replied, keeping a neutral tone. "My fever's gone. All I have now is the chills and sniffles." As if on cue, her nose started running. Getting some tissues, Jane held it to her nose. In a much lower tone, Jane thanked her boss for the 'remedies' he brought her. "I'll pay you back." She hurriedly added.

Her demeanor was as professional as any other day. She was the same blank-faced plain Jane people knew her as. Ricky saw past it. The redness in Jane's cheeks had deepened, making Ricky's own heart skip a beat. Jane looked cute at that moment.

Maybe he did have a crush on the secretary.
He doubted Jane would be comfortable with that.

Unbeknownst to the two, Pamela had returned. She had refrained from interrupting the scene she'd come across; preferring to watch it for a bit. 'Oh my!' She clamped a hand to her mouth. She had overheard her baby brother ask Jane if the soup he made was to her taste. Ricky had also told his employee that if she needed anything to let him know.

'So that's the friend, huh?' She suspected that Ricky was in love with a girl but she didn't think it would be his employee! Although she couldn't see her younger brother's face, Pamela knew the tone he used. It was a gentle tone. The kind he'd used with all the girls he had been in love with. All those women had left her brother in bitter tears.

Pamela Evens became conflicted with this revelation.
