Secret

"You failed."

Felix looked around in the darkness as Phil's voice echoed around him, sending chills down his spine.

"You killed him."

Felix sucked in a sharp breath in surprise as Dan appeared in front of him, Phil's body in his arms.

"You killed me too."

Without warning, Dan's body crumpled to the ground with a thud next to Phil's, his eyes staring lifelessly into Felix's soul.

Felix backed away and turned to run, only to find Mark standing behind him with his body covered in scarred over burns.

"I sacrificed so much to save him, why didn't you?" Mark whispered in a heartbroken tone.

"I..." Felix trailed off, shaking his head as he staggered back before tripping over his own feet and falling to the ground.

"You can't save us."

Felix looked up to see Robin, Ethan, Mark, Sean, and PJ hanging over him, bedsheets tied around their necks and suspending them in the air, their faces frozen in shocked expressions.

"LEAVE ME ALONE!" Felix sobbed, curling in on himself and wishing he could disappear.

"Felix-"

The Swede woke up gasping for air as if he had been running a marathon, his body slick with cold sweat and face stained with tears.

"Couldn't sleep either?" Mark asked the captain lightly as he sat on the end of the bed.

"Nightmare. You?" Felix countered, struggling to regain his composure.

"Just couldn't sleep." Mark stated simply with a nonchalant shrug Felix didn't belief.

"What's up, seriously? What happened out there with the engines?" Felix prompted Mark gently, scooting closer to him.

"I..." Mark trailed off with a sigh, swallowing hard as he gingerly rolled the sleeve of his suit up.

Dark purple bruises peppered his skin as if he had a deadly disease, some a light green color, and all painful looking.

"Come on man, they're just bruises, don't be a baby." Felix scoffed, relieved that it wasn't anything serious.

"Of course you wouldn't get it." Mark huffed softly in mild irritation as he quickly rolled his sleeve back down.

"What do you mean?" Felix replied with a frown.

"It's not the bruises!" Mark hissed sharply before calming himself down by taking a deep breath.

"Just tell me what's wrong." Felix pleaded, wanting to understand so he could help.

"I can't-"

"Tell me." Felix demanded in a harsh whisper.

Mark shook his head as he got up off of the bed and stormed off, waking Sean as he passed.

"He okay?" Sean mumbled to Felix sleepily.

"I don't know." Felix admitted.

He paused when he heard hushed talking from down the hall in PJ's room, raising us curiosity.

"Where are you going?" Sean asked Felix as he crept by.

"To find out something." Felix answered as he left the room, Sean groaning softly before getting out of bed and following him.

The two pressed their ears against the door, hearing Mark's agitates tone and PJ's calm one.

"Don't you guys have some kind of magic space cure or something?!" Mark snapped in desperation.

"I'm sorry, advanced radiation poisoning is a human disease we don't have any knowledge of." PJ answered apologetically.

"What do I tell the others? Oh god, what do I tell Amy?" Mark muttered.

Felix and Sean could hear him pacing around the floor like a caged animal, his footsteps muffled by the carpeted floor.

"Just tell them the truth, they'll understand." PJ assured him.

"I already tried telling Felix, but he just brushed me off." Mark muttered bitterly, voice laced with anger.

Sean shot Felix a confused expression, Felix mouthing that he would explain later.

"Why didn't you do anything sooner?" PJ questioned with a weary sigh.

"I didn't want to add more problems. At the time, Phil was dying and the ship was going down, announcing that I felt sick wouldn't help anything. Besides, I didn't even know what it was until I developed the more serious symptoms." Mark explained in exasperation.

"Okay...Wait for your crew to wake up, you have to tell them at breakfast when they're all together." PJ instructed.

"But-"

"Mark, they need to know." PJ interrupted him.

"Fine." Mark growled.

Sean and Felix retreated back into their room when the door opened, quickly crawling into their beds before Mark entered.

Felix watched through slitted eyes as Mark scanned the four before slumping to the floor against the wall in defeat, running a hand through his hair as tears welled up in his eyes.

Felix stayed silent as Mark grieved, Sean seeing the same thing.

Neither man moved until Mark eventually wiped away his tears with the back of his hand and rushed out of the room.

"What do we do?" Sean whispered to Felix worriedly.

"He'll tell everyone else at breakfast I guess." Felix sighed, glancing out the door Mark had left from.

Felix and Sean "woke" up first, taking food from the fridge and eating it on their beds as the others gradually woke up and followed suit.

"Not hungry? That's surprising." Robin teased Sean as he picked at his cold slice of pizza.

"I dunno, just anxious for the day to start." Sean lied, exchanging glances with Felix.

"Hey guys, what'd I miss?" Mark asked as he entered the room and flopped down into his bed.

"Nothing." Ethan answered through a mouthful of scrambled eggs.

"Where were you?" Felix prompted, noticing Mark's expression flash with guilt before the look disappeared as if it hadn't existed.

"I was just...walking around." Mark shrugged, Felix and Sean the only ones seeing through his blatant lie.

"Isn't there something you found out that you want to share with the class?" Sean questioned Mark.

"No, why?" Mark frowned in pretend confusion.

"Just tell them already!" Felix blurted impatiently.

"Tell us what?" Dan spoke up.

"Nothing." Mark stated tersely.

"Stop lying to them, we heard you taking to PJ!" Sean interjected.

"Y-you did?" Mark stammered, face paling in shock.

"Now tell them what happened when you worked on the engines." Felix directed calmly.

"What's up man?" Ethan asked Mark worriedly, shooting a glance between Felix and Mark.

"I said it's nothing." Mark repeated cooly.

"Bullshit!" Felix snapped.

"Woah guys, calm down-"

"No, he's dying and he doesn't want anyone to know or care!" Felix continued.

"Mark, what is he talking about?" Robin asked the engineer gently.

"I-"

Mark abruptly broke off, his face extremely pale as he darted into the bathroom.

"I'll check on him, we don't want to crowd him." Ethan told the others as he followed Mark into the bathroom.

They winced at the sound of Mark vomiting, Dan putting a pillow over his head to muffle the sounds.

"Guys, he's fucking throwing up blood, what do I do?!" Ethan yelped in fear.

"I don't know, I'll get PJ!" Robin exclaimed, darting out of the room before coming back with the Brit.

"Apparently he won't tell you guys himself, so I'll fill everyone in for him...he has advanced radiation poisoning from being exposed to the plutonium that powers your engines. Since it's been left untreated, his symptoms are severe and he doesn't have long." PJ explained slowly.

"Why didn't he fucking tell us?!" Dan yelled as he tossed the pillow he was holding over his ears at a wall.

"You know Mark, he's-"

"Stupid?"

"Secretive?"

"Annoying?"

"I was going to say selfless, but all of those other adjectives apply as well." PJ cut in.

"How long?" Robin spoke up hesitantly.

"Hard to say, days on Earth are longer than days here. If I had to estimate, maybe weeks at the most." PJ guessed.

"I gotta go." Dan spoke up abruptly before hastily leaving the room.

"Dan-"

"Don't, he just needs space." PJ told Felix quietly.

"So...what do we do?" Sean wondered aloud.

"It's not as easy as it sounds," PJ admitted as he clasped his hands together behind his back.

"We be there for Mark, no matter what."
