Arrival
"This is so bizarre, I never thought I'd get chosen for this." Jack admitted as he kept Signe company while she helped him pack his suitcase.
"I know, this is pretty cool." Signe remarked as she zipped up the suitcase.
"There you go, I threw in a camera in case you wanted to vlog for fun or something." Signe smiled as she kissed Jack on the cheek.
"Thanks Wiish." Jack grinned back, taking his suitcase out with him as he went outside and called an Uber driver.
Cars now moved by hover mechanics and ran off of wind up batteries like they had long ago to save the environment.
But it was already too late.
The Earth was fucked.
"I love you, come home safely." Signe whispered as she hugged Sean, never wanting to let go.
"I love you too Wiish, just stay strong and keep that PMA with you." Sean replied, hesitant to leave.
Once they finally broke apart, Sean tossed his bag in the back with him before climbing in, waving goodbye to Signe as the car started moving.
He didn't look away until he could no longer see her.
The jet was already waiting for him at the airport NASA had told him to go to over the phone early that morning.
Felix, Dan, and Phil was already waiting there for him, each armed with their own suitcases.
"Hey Swedish meatball." Sean teased.
"Hey Irish potato." Felix countered, hugging Sean while Dan and Phil awkwardly stood back until they greeted Sean and entered the jet.
Sean was surprised to find Ethan and Mark already inside, Ethan looking terrified while Mark had a large grin on his face as he fought to contain his eagerness.
"Hey Sean, it's good to see you again." Mark smiled warmly as he hugged the Irishman.
"I know, it's been so long! We haven't met since...." Sean trailed off, regretting mentioning YouTube since he knew it was a sore subject for him.
Sean had went back to college and finished getting his hotel management degree and was currently helping run a hotel in Brighton, but it didn't give him the same joy YouTube did.
"Sorry." Sean apologized awkwardly.
"It's fine, I'm over it...or at least I should be at this point." Mark muttered.
"Hey Sean." Ethan cut in, standing up and hugging Sean.
"Who's flying this thing?" Sean wondered aloud.
"No one, it's using self navigation technology like what the automated cars have." Mark explained.
"It takes off once everyone is sitting and buckled up." Ethan added.
"Cool." Sean nodded as he sat down and buckled up, tensing up as the jet immediately shot across the lane and into the air.
"So last up is Robin." Mark stated.
"Is anyone else fucking terrified about this?" Dan spoke up.
"Pretty sure everyone here is except Mark since he's crazy." Ethan remarked teasingly.
"Not true!" Mark protested defensively.
"No, pretty sure it is." Felix chuckled as Mark folded his arms across his chest and pretended to pout moodily.
They arrived at Sweden quickly and picked up Robin, completing the team of soon to be astronauts.
The seven were then flown to Texas, the heart of NASA, so they could begin their long training.
"Welcome to NASA headquarters men, my name is Micheal Griffin and I'm the head of this place. I'll be showing you around and introducing you to the techies and backstage crew." Michael explained, motioning for the group to follow him inside.
Mark looked out the window and could see the launch pad where the rocket was close to being finished, its size astonishing.
"We'll start training and what not tomorrow. Right now you all should go to your quarters and rest up, tomorrow will be a long day." Micheal informed them before walking off.
"Wait!" Mark called out, but he had already left.
"So...anyone know where the sleeping quarters are?" Phil asked his friends.
"I dunno, let's look around and find it." Robin suggested eagerly.
"Shouldn't we just ask someone?" Dan cut in nervously.
"C'mon, I wanna explore!" Ethan chimed in.
"Fine, then let's look around I guess." Dan shrugged, reluctantly following the others down the maze of halls.
It wasn't long before they got completely lost and wandered into a room they definitely thought they weren't supposed to be in yet.
All eyes in the room turned to face then as they walked in, instantly making Dan feel uncomfortable and want to leave.
They had accidentally stumbled into a conference room where the president and Micheal as well as several people they didn't know were talking.
"Hello gentlemen, what can we do for you?" Micheal prompted, voice strained with forced politeness.
"We were looking for our rooms." Phil squeaked.
"Down the hall more and first door to your right." Micheal directed them.
They hastily left and went to their room, finding bunk beds for the with clothes on top for them to wear while training.
"I still can't believe this." Mark sighed as he climbed the ladder up to the top bunk of one of the bunk beds, Ethan taking the bottom.
"Yeah, this is badass." Felix agreed as he took a bottom bunk, Sean taking the one above him while Robin took the top of the bed next to him.
"I don't know why we were all chosen though, I mean isn't that kind of coincidental?" Dan chimed in as he took top bunk of the last bed, Phil sleeping underneath.
"Yeah that is weird." Robin admitted.
"They'll probably explain everything tomorrow." Sean yawned before going to sleep, Felix gettin up to turnoff the lights for them.
"Night guys." Phil called out in the darkness before he fell asleep.
"Night!" Felix replied before sleep took hold, jet lag hitting him like a truck.
Mark and Dan were the only ones that stayed awake, both for different reasons.
Mark couldn't wait for the next day while Dan dreaded it, his anxiety shooting through the roof.
Phil seemed to notice Dan's anxiousness and took his hand that was hanging over the side of the bed, not letting go until Dan fell asleep.
Eventually Mark too gave in to his exhaustion, excited for the future that he was facing with some of his closest friends.
