Oneshot: Flying with Jason
"Swear not to let me go. Swear it!" Thalia shut her eyes in panic as her brother gripped her around the waist.
"Jeez, Thalia, it was just an idea to help you try to get over your gear of heights. It's good for you to try," Jason responded. "I promise I won't let go of you."
"Fine, then get it over with." Thalia tensed and fought the urge to struggle as Jason summoned the winds and slowly lifted off the ground. She grasped his arm tightly, her fingers digging into his tanned skin.
Jason flew slowly, rising higher and higher. He coasted around the outer edge of the camp, holding Thalia firmly. "It's okay. I've got you. You can open your eyes."
Thalia flinched. "I...I can't," she whispered.
"You can. It's a beautiful day, and we're just going for a short flight. Nothing to be scared or apprehensive about. We're just two siblings enjoying a sunny afternoon," Jason coaxed.
Thalia gasped as a gust of wind made them lurch, then forced herself to breathe deeply. She gradually opened one blue eye, then the other. Seeing the ground rushing far below them, she squeaked a little.
"It's alright. You're fine. I'm here," Jason reassured her.
A whoop and a laugh rose from below them, and Thalia spotted Percy, Piper, and Annabeth waving at them. "You're doing it, Thalia!" Annabeth yelled cheerfully.
Thalia cracked a smile and managed a little wave back at them. Still dizzy at the prospect of being so high above the earth, she concentrated on relaxing and leaned back into Jason's chest.
"See, they're right. You're doing great," Jason said.
Thalia looked down across the camp. She saw the tall white amphitheater, where the Dionysus cabin was hanging out. She caught a glimmer of silver in the forest: the Hunter's temporary camp. She noticed Sherman Yang and Miranda Gardiner off hiding behind the pegasi stables, and she couldn't help but grin. She'd have to tease both of them about it later.
Jason did a lazy circle over the cabins, and Thalia laughed with the feel of the sun on her face and the wind in her hair. Jason laughed with her, and together the siblings flew across the camp on the warm, sunny afternoon.
