All x Deaf!Reader (Can you hear me?)

Hey again guys! This one-shot was an idea from @TheLibrarySoul, where the reader is deaf. The original idea was the reader was mute, but I have no experience writing mute characters, and don't want to offend anybody. For those who don't know, being mute is where someone can hear, but doesn't talk. I've also had to change a few things about the CHB border; I've made it so is a monster touches it, the monster evaporates. It just fits better with the story.

Hope you guys enjoy!

ALSO: We hit 3k reads! I truly cannot express how thankful I am to you guys for reading my story. Mwah mwah mwah!

Y/N POV:

Well, here you are. Running for your life from a teeny tiny snake. You don't know what type of snake it is, don't know where it came from, but you just witnessed it kill an animal by just wrapping it's tail around the animal's body. You had gasped, like any sane person would, and the snake had heard you. It had whipped it's head toward you, staring you down menacingly. It was probably mad you distracted it from it's lunch, or dinner, or whatever meal was appropriate  for this time.

You booked it in the other direction, crashing through bushes and whizzing past trees. Thorns scratched holes in your shirt and jeans, only assisting the snake in ways to kill you. In case you weren't following, the snake's scales are poisonous. One touch and you're out in a minute, and dead in the next two. If only you hadn't tripped.

As you raced through the forest, you saw a large pine tree stand proudly on top of a hill. For some reason, you knew you'd be safe once you passed the tree. You were almost there, just a few metres away, but a tree root was sticking up from the ground. In your panic, you hadn't noticed it until is was too late. You tripped over the tree root, crashing roughly to the floor. The snake had caught up to you now, but it's small 30cm (12 inches) body was moving so fast, it couldn't stop quick enough. It flew past you, grazing the skin on your upper thigh through a hole in your jeans. It hurtled into an invisible force-field looking thing, evaporating to golden dust.

The poisonous scales made a fire-like pain shoot up through your entire body. You felt woozy, and could only just barely stand. You hobbled past the pine tree, where the snake had evaporated. You felt a sense of protection and belonging wash over your fragile body. You felt the thumps of feet on earth when people rushed towards you as you collapsed. You felt hands grab your shoulders, and direct your head to look at them.

It was a girl, probably about 16, with tanned skin, hazel eyes, and dark hair in a braid with a feather stabbed through it. Her top was orange, and read 'Camp Half Blood'. She also had on light blue jean shorts, and dirty red converse.

Can you hear me? You assumed she said it aloud, but you were deaf after all. You knew how to lip read some words and phrases, and since you got this one a lot, you understood what she meant. You shook your head, but the girl just took it as shock, not a disability. She turned her head to look at another girl with blonde curls, telling her something, and pointing towards a large archway with her head. The other girl nodded, and ran to help you stand up. Suspended between the girls' arms, they dragged you through the arch and into a summer-camp looking place. They directed themselves towards a hut, labelled the infirmary.

As you were carried through the doorway, a blonde boy looked up. His eyes widened at your expression. He then said something to the girls, and they responded. You could feel their heads nodding. To what question, you didn't know. The boy said something else, and the girls lifted you onto a bed. The contact with your poisoned skin made it burn. You tried to lift your arms to tell them, but you were too tired to do so. You settled with making erratic mouth movements to get their attention. They all looked at you, and tilted their heads in a questioning way.

You tried to spell out T-H-I-G-H with your fingers, hoping they'd get the message. The boy seemed to take notice of this, and pointed it out the the girls. Blondie realised it was sign language, and told them, at least you thought she told them. You honestly had no clue. The brunette raced out of the room, for an reason unbeknownst to you. You spelled out thigh once more before slipping into unconsciousness.

Piper POV (First person):

"LEO!" (I don't know why, but I have a feeling that Leo would know sign language). I yelled as I raced to Bunker 9. A familiar head of chocolate curls and elf ears poked out of the door to Bunker 9.

"Sup, Pipes! Watcha need?" He asked, coming out into the sunlight, flipping a wrench.

"There's a newbie, and she's injured," I say quickly.

"And? What can I do about that?" Leo asked, confused.

"She's deaf," I added. Leo's mouth made a small 'o', and he dropped the wrench.

"Let's go then," he raced past me toward the infirmary.

When we arrived, the girl was out cold.

"Oh, Leo, thank gods," Will sighed in relief. "What does this mean?" He made the hand movements for the letters, not a word. (Chart is at the top of the chapter).

"T-H-I-G-H," Leo spelled. "Thigh. Check her thigh?"

Will did as told, checking the top of the thighs, then flipping her over and checking the back.

"I don't get it, why is there nothing here?" Annabeth questioned. "Piper, did you see what attacked her?"

I shrugged. "I saw a snake explode into dust if that helps."

Annabeth's eyes widened. "She has rips in her jeans. What if a basilisk touched her?"

Will gasped, then frantically checked inside all the tears on the newbie's jeans. Sure enough, on the left leg, there was an angry red patch visible through a hole. "Schist!"

Will ran to the back of the infirmary, grabbing nectar, some sort of salve, and bandages. He scrambled back, setting the items down on the table. "Annabeth, I need your dagger."

She handed it over without question, and Will cut a the leg of the jeans off to get to the venom. It was a dark red, and swelling drastically. Will applied the salve to the mark, wrapping it tightly in bandages, while I stuck a straw leading to the nectar in the girl's mouth. Now we just have to wait and hope this works.

Y/N POV:

As you slowly came to your senses, your memories of the snake returned. You remembered being chased, getting poisoned, getting rescued my the girls, and... that's it. You slowly blinked your eyes open, and they were met with the tanned face and blue eyes of the blonde boy from how-ever long ago it was.

Where am I? You signed. The blonde boy sighed. He grabbed a piece of paper and a pen, and wrote a message: Can you read?

You nodded your head, and the boy looked pleased. He wrote another sentence: My name is Will. What's yours?

You signed your name, before realising he didn't understand. So, you wrote: Y/N.

Well, Y/N, I'm going to get Leo. He knows sign language. Wait here.

You responded with a thumbs up.

Two minutes later, Will walked back in with a short, curly haired boy with elf-ish ears. Hi, I'm Leo, the boy signed. You smiled, happy you to talk, well, 'talk' to someone.

Y/N. Does anyone else know sign language here?

Leo shook his head. Darn.

Guess we're stuck with each other then. You signed with a smile. Leo turned to Will, and told him something, causing him to leave the room.

What's he doing?

Getting our friends so we can introduce them.

As Leo signed that, Will returned with a large entourage, consisting of the blonde girl and brunette from when-ever-it-was, another girl with dark hair and skin, three black-haired boys, and another blonde boy.

Annabeth, Piper, Hazel, Percy, Nico, Frank, Jason. Leo spoke as he signed, so each person that he said/signed smiled and waved.

Nice to meet you all. I'm Y/N. Leo quickly translated. You and your new friends spent the rest of the day learning sign language so they could talk to you, without needing Leo there. Safe to say, you were going to enjoy life here.

Good gods that was long. 1452 words! Love you guys <3 Don't be afraid to comment or vote. I read every comment, and reply to most. Also don't forget to request if you have an idea!
