This was Jason's lowest point.
It had to be. Nobody stands on the edge of one of the tallest buildings in town without a reason.
Some do it for the exhilaration, the feeling of being on the edge. Knowing how close they are to death, but not taking that one step that would end it all. Their world is bright, they had no reason to end anything at all. They had everything they could possibly want.
Then there were those who just liked to feel the wind in their hair. They enjoyed the view of the city and the fast paced city life.
But then there were people like Jason. The people who's world had crashed around them all at once. The voices in their head screamed lies that seemed more like truth and they desperately tried to say it was okay and that it would be okay but in their heart they knew it wouldn't. They just wanted to silence their minds once and for all.
So here Jason stood, the cool autumn breeze blowing through his hair. Cars zoomed past on the street below, taking no notice to the pain crashing through Jason's chest. People walked by so painfully unaware of how horrible the world really was. It all seemed so dark and pointless, so why go on? Jason hadn't done anything to deserve happiness anyways.
He shuffled another half step forward, almost losing the minimal balance he had in the first place. The trees next to the sidewalk below had leaves the color of a sunset. Various shades of gold and auburn made Jason smile. Soon his own battered body would be the color of those leaves.
Jason started shaking with fear. He wasn't scared of heights. In fact, he'd always loved skydiving and anything involving being in the air. It made him feel free. Maybe that's why he wanted to jump instead of overdose or something else. He wanted to leave the world feeling free and alive. Besides, he had a better chance of dying this way.
Jason closed his eyes. This was it. Goodbye world.
Just as he was about to step, he felt himself getting dragged backwards. Jason stumbled back and fell on his butt. He glared at the stranger above him.
"What the hell?" Jason screamed. The stranger looked at him with concern in his eyes.
"Were you going to jump?" The man asked. Jason felt himself being entranced by his eyes. They were the color of sunlight through the trees. His hair was raven black and his lips were tight in a look of worry. He had to admit, this guy was pretty hot.
"So what if I was?" Jason snarled, snapping out of his paralysis. Jason tried to get up but the man held him down.
"Stop! Why would you ever think of hurting yourself like that? I'd never forgive you if you did! Do you know how much you have to offer this world? Life sucks, I know. My own dad left when I was still an infant and died later. But, there's so much to live for! The stars, the color.. There's so much in life. You couldn't possibly throw that away!" The man said. His eyes burned with a passion, "Besides, I didn't climb up all those stairs for nothing!"
Jason managed a small chuckle. He really liked this guy.
"What's your name?" Jason asked. Relief filled the man's eyes.
"Percy, how about you?" Percy asked. Jason felt his heart beat faster when he learned his name.
"My name's Jason," Jason mumbled, blushing a bit. Percy grinned.
"Well Jason, let's get you off of this building, yeah? You really had a lot of people worried!" Percy exclaimed.
"Huh?" Jason asked. Percy grabbed Jason's arm tightly and led him to the edge again. This time, oddly enough, Jason didn't want to jump.
Sure enough, a crowd of people was gathered below, looking anxiously up at him. Firetrucks had arrived, presumably when Percy had dragged him away from his deathbed. A small fire erupted in his heart. He wasn't alone.
Percy took Jason's hand and took him away from the ledge. Sparks erupted through his hand and it took all of Jason's willpower not to blush.
They went down the thousands of stairs to the bottom. When he got down, people cheered and hugged him and Percy. Jason almost started crying. People really did care.
Suddenly, Jason was ripped away from the people by firemen. Percy followed quickly. Jason didn't even care that he would probably have to go through months of counseling and therapy. Now that he had Percy, he truly felt like he could fly.
Until next time,
-Callie
