I see...what's your name?
I'm Percy
And why did you mess up your mom's number, Percy?
Becauseee my phone died so I had to use Jason's to keep her updated but I couldn't remember if the last digit was a 3 or an 8
Well now you know XD
What's your name then?

Well now that you know what's going on you should be just as excited as me
That might not be possible Seaweed Brain XD but yeah I'm super excited...and a little nervous
Why are you nervous?
Talking in person is a lot harder than over text because you don't really have time to plan out what you want to say
Well you shouldn't be nervous to talk to me because we're practically best friends at this point
Forget about Piper for a guy I met over text am I right?
Exactlyy now you're seeing things the Percy way XD

7:14 A.M.
Annabeth ran her fingers through her blonde curls one last time before hopping out of the passenger's side of her best friend's Range Rover. Adjusting her backpack on her shoulders and taking a deep breath, she strode across the parking lot beside her companion.
"You seem nervous," Piper commented.
Annabeth bit her lip and took out her cell phone. "I am nervous. I'm meeting with Percy for the first time today."
"Really? I didn't know. You've only mentioned it eighty-two times in the past three days."
The blonde glared at her brunette best friend. "Oh shut up. This is a big deal for me, okay?"
Piper chuckled. "I know, I'm just teasing you. I'm absolutely positive everything will go okay, though, so don't stress."
"Thanks, Pipes." Annabeth's phone buzzed in her hand and she immediately checked the notification. "Percy says not to wait up for him," she narrated with a frown.
Peeking over her shoulder, her best friend laughed. "No, Seaweed Brain wave emoji blue heart emoji says not to wait up for him."
Annabeth nudged Piper away. "He's a swimmer and his favorite color is blue," she explained hastily. "Besides, I'm sure Jason's name wouldn't be just 'Jason Grace' if you had the guts to ask him for his number."
Piper's tan face flushed red. "Oh, cut it out. Come on, let's go to our lockers."
The girls continued through the hallways of Goode High School. Annabeth couldn't help but look intently into the face of every tall guy she passed. Too pale, she noted, and brown eyes.
Piper darted across the hall to her locker while Annabeth veered right to hers. She quickly spun the combination to her locker into the lock and sprung the metal door open. As she was exchanging her French textbook for her English novel, a deep chuckle caught her attention.
She glanced over her shoulder and saw a tall blonde leaning against the locker adjacent Piper's. Scanning the guy's features - short blonde hair, tan skin, blue eyes, and a bulky 6'1" frame - she quickly labeled him as Jason Grace, the quarterback of the football team, Piper's longterm crush, and Percy's best friend.
Maybe...
Annabeth looked from left to right, about to give up her hope of seeing Percy before her first period. Then, feeling a tap on her left shoulder, she whirled around.
A tall guy with a mop of artfully messy raven black hair, bright green eyes, tan skin, and a lean figure was standing in front of her. His plump lips were quirked up in a mischievous smile.
"Percy?" she asked hesitantly.
His smirk widened into a grin and he surged forward to wrap his arms around her waist. Annabeth was lifted up about a foot into the air. With a laugh, she draped her arms across his narrow shoulders and squeezed him tightly.
After about a minute of hugging, Percy set Annabeth back on her own two feet. "Wow, Annabeth," he breathed out, "you are even prettier than I imagined."
Annabeth blushed and tucked a curl behind her ear. "Thank you," she murmured. "I can't believe this is really happening."
Percy smiled brightly. "Me neither, really. Oh, wait, I almost forgot. I have something for you?"
"Really?"
He nodded and opened up his backpack. Pulling out a small Tupperware, he smiled sheepishly and handed it to Annabeth.
She slowly took off the lid and instantly breathed in the comforting scent of freshly baked cookies. She looked up at Percy in awe. "You made me cookies?"
He nodded. "Yeah, I figured you had a thing for them during our conversation the other day. If you don't like them you can throw them out and I won't be offended. "
Annabeth smirked. "Chocolate chip?"
He grinned. "Is that even a question?"
She laughed and bit into a cookie. "Wow, these are incredible," she mumbled.
Percy zipped up his bag. "I'm glad you like them. I wasn't sure if you had any allergies so they're gluten-free and vegan."
"Really?" She took another bite. "It does not taste like it."
He chuckled. "That's good. Oh, and sorry about the color. It's kind of a tradition with my mom and I figured I'd let you in on it. Plus, it would be treason to make normal colored cookies."
Annabeth closed the container and tucked it into her backpack. "I brushed it off as your unhealthy obsession with the color blue," she admitted.
Percy smiled. "What class do you have first period?" he asked her.
"Um, English with Mr. Blofis."
"Me too! Walk with me?" he asked.
She nodded and shouldered her backpack. "Yeah, let's go."
The pair walked down the hallway, passing Piper and Jason. Annabeth sent her best friend a discreet wink and Piper glared at her. Laughing it off, she wrapped her fingers around Percy's left wrist and tugged him down the hallway.
He stumbled and chuckled. "Wow, someone's eager to get to class," he pointed out.
Annabeth peered up at him with a smile on her lips. "I just wanted to get away from the two lovebirds before Piper came up with an excuse to stop talking to Jason."
"He really does like her, you know?" Percy shifted his hand so that it was encasing Annabeth's.
"If it's even half as much as Piper likes him, I'm sure they'll get together by the end of the month," she stated, trying not to get too flustered by the affectionate gesture.
"Assuming at least one of them has balls," Percy muttered. When Annabeth sent him a concerned look, he rubbed the back of his neck with his free hand and coughed. "Metaphorical balls, that is."
She laughed, tossing her head back. "You're just as silly in person as you are over text, Seaweed Brain."
"And you're just as perfect."
Ignoring the acrobatic tricks her heart was performing, she walked into Mr. Blofis' classroom, Percy still in tow behind her.
"Good morning, Mr. Blofis," Annabeth chirped.
Looking up from his papers, the teacher sent her a kind smile. "Good morning, Miss Chase." Then, his eyes trailed behind her, and his face lit up with a mixture of shock and amusement. "It seems you've wrangled yourself a Mr. Jackson."
Flustered, the blonde dropped "Mr. Jackson's" hand and laughed awkwardly.
He rolled his sea-green eyes. "Nice to see you, Paul."
The teacher grinned. "Percy."
With that, Percy gently tugged Annabeth's elbow, guiding her towards a pair of desks near a window. He let her sit down first before sitting down on her left.
"You two have a...strange relationship," she decided.
He chuckled. "Yeah, well, Paul's my step-dad."
Annabeth's grey eyes widened. "Really? It must be really weird being semi-related to one of your teachers."
He shrugged. "It's not that bad. My mom could tell you the full story with all the lovey details, but basically, my mom was in a really rough spot, met Paul in a writing class during college, and it only got better for them from there."
She smiled. "That's sweet. I'm glad she's happy."
"Yeah, she's been through a lot, but she's still the best mom to ever exist."
Annabeth swept her blonde hair behind her ears as she inwardly freaked out about her revelation. Percy was such a momma's boy. The way he talked about her proved how much he cared for his mom. She loved that he was so open about talking about their close relationship. A lot of guys would shut off their emotions which Annabeth didn't like at all.
The bell rang and Mr. Blofis - er, Paul? - started class. Almost the whole time, Percy was whispering comments to Annabeth and she was doing her best to hold in her laughter. They continued to talk as they did their work until Paul finally sent them a warning look.
While Annabeth finished up her questions, her mind was preoccupied with the boy to her left. He was sweet, smart, funny, respectful, and good looking. He was almost too good to be true.

11:44 A.M.
Percy set down his lunch tray on the table across from Jason. Less than a minute later, his blonde companion Annabeth and her best friend Piper plopped down beside each guy and across from each other. They had been sitting in this formation and at this table ever since they all became friends almost two weeks ago.
"Someone's grumpy," Percy commented, looking down at Annabeth.
She elbowed him in the ribs and bit into her sandwich. "Someone kept me awake until midnight, meaning I only got six hours of sleep."
He rolled his eyes. "I get six hours of sleep maximum, Wise Girl."
She scoffed. "Not my fault you're a night owl."
"What were you two doing?" Jason questioned, interrupting the banter that he knew could go on for hours if unstopped.
"Annabeth was helping me with my homework," Percy explained.
Piper smirked. "At midnight?"
Annabeth's cheeks turned red. "We started at five o'clock, took a few breaks to talk, and wrapped up a little before midnight," she told her friend.
The brunette raised her hands in surrender. "I didn't imply anything else."
Percy furrowed his eyebrows. Girls confused him.
He finished up his lunch - a bland chicken patty and some soggy fries - while listening to Jason and Piper chat. He spoke up every once in a while. Annabeth was quiet the whole time, but Percy knew she was tired and didn't want to annoy her anymore.
After watching Jason and Piper stare into each other's eyes and unknowingly compliment each other for about fifteen minutes, he finally blurted out: "You guys should just date."
Chaos ensued. Instantly, Piper's cheeks flushed red and Jason sent him a panicked look.
Annabeth glanced at Percy with a tiny smile on her lips. They both knew that Jason and Piper liked each other. "He's right," she agreed. "You two would be the perfect match. Wild and tame; crazy and muted; you balance each other out."
Piper huffed. "Well if you're going off of the old 'opposites attract' rule, you and Percy are practically soulmates!" she exclaimed.
Percy's heart clenched. Sure, he thought Annabeth was gorgeous, but could he see her as his girlfriend? He didn't want to mess up their relationship that was so special and so new. He loved talking to her and thought they had a special bond. He didn't want to risk that.
The four of them sat in awkward silence until the bell rang, jarring them all. They got up and parted ways - Piper went to chorus, Jason went to strength and conditioning, and Percy walked with Annabeth to their second shared class of the day: mythology.
As soon as they left the cafeteria, Annabeth blurted, "I'm sorry."
Percy furrowed his eyebrows. "For..."
"For Piper being so intrusive and weird," she explained. "It's just in her personality to be so forward about other people's wants and then conservative when it comes to herself."
"Oh," he said, "it's okay. I mean, I did start the whole thing by saying she and Jason should date. I'm really not that bothered by it, though. She's pretty cool."
Annabeth smiled up at him, making him forget about the entire awkward event.

3:42 P.M.
After hailing a taxi and having it take her to the address Percy sent her, Annabeth found herself standing in front of an apartment building in Upper East Side. She quickly walked into the lobby and pressed the upward arrow button on the elevator. Once it dinged and opened up, she stepped inside and pressed the button for Percy's floor.
A few moments later, the doors opened back up and Annabeth rushed out of the claustrophobic chamber. She scanned the numbers on the doors until she finally found the one Percy had told her. Taking a deep breath, she rapped her knuckles against the wooden door.
Within seconds, the handle turned and the door swung open, revealing a grinning Percy dressed in grey sweatpants and a tee-shirt. "Hey," he greeted,
Annabeth smiled. "Hi."
Percy held the door open wider for her to step inside the warm and cozy apartment. As she kicked off her white Converse and set them on a mat, he closed the door. "My mom's still at work but she'll be home around 6:30. Until then, I was thinking we could watch a movie or something?"
"That sounds good," she agreed. "Where should I put my coat?"
"Oh, I'll take it."
Annabeth unzipped her black jacket and handed it to Percy, who hung it on a hook beside the door, kind of in the kitchen.
He gestured for her to follow him and led her through the quaint apartment. They passed the kitchen and living room before walking down a hallway. At the very end was a closed door which revealed a room Annabeth recognized from their few Facetime calls.
Percy's room had cobalt blue walls, tan wood floors, and four pieces of furniture: a full-sized bed with grey blankets, a nightstand with a lamp, a dresser with a television sitting on it, and a desk with several pieces of paper scattered on it. He also had a few swim trophies lined on a shelf hung next to three paper awards.
"You can get comfortable on my bed while I make popcorn if you'd like," Percy told her. "Here, you can choose the movie, too."
After handing her the remote, he darted out of the room to gather snacks. Annabeth tentatively sat down on the bed and turned on the television. As she scrolled through Netflix, she immediately regretted not changing out of her school clothes before coming over. She was still wearing jeans and a flannel over a short-sleeved black cropped tee-shirt.
Sighing, she clicked on the first Pirates of the Carribean movie before settling into the plush pillows. As she tried to get comfortable, she realized that the whole room smelled just like Percy - a subtle mixture of cologne and the sea. That helped her relax.
"I'm back!" Percy announced, returning with a bowl of popcorn, two bottles of water, and a box of Reese's pieces - she had quickly informed him that she had zero allergies after he had baked cookies for her the day they first met.
"I can see that," Annabeth drawled. "I chose Pirates of the Caribbean."
"The first one?"
She bit her lip and nodded. "Is that okay?"
"Yeah, I love those movies. Nice choice."
"Okay, good," she mumbled, scooting over on the bed to make sure Percy had enough room.
He walked over from the doorway and set the snacks on the nightstand. As he was about to sit down, he looked down at Annabeth and frowned. "Are you okay?"
She nodded quickly. "Yeah, why?"
"You look uncomfortable. If you want, we can go out in the living room or do something else," he offered.
She smiled. He thought she was uncomfortable being in an enclosed space alone with him and was willing to move somewhere else? How sweet could a guy get? "Seriously, I'm fine. I'm just regretting not changing into sweats or leggings or something."
Realization - and a bit of embarrassment - dawned on Percy's face. "Oh." He walked over to his dresser and dug through a drawer. "These might fit you if you tie the waist and roll the legs up," he said, holding up a pair of sweatpants.
Annabeth sat up and took the pants from him. "Thank you. Where's your bathroom?"
"Directly across the hall," Percy told her.
"Great, thanks."
She got off of the bed and sped out of his room, eager to put on comfier pants. After using the bathroom and washing her hands, she slipped off her jeans and guided her feet into the large leg holes. The pants weren't too big on her - maybe two sizes larger than her preferred size - but she tied the drawstrings into a bow and cuffed the ankles just like Percy suggested.
Once she was dressed, she left the bathroom and walked back across the hallway to Percy's bedroom. She hastily folded up her jeans and set them beside the doorway before heading over to the bed, which was on the opposite side of the room.
Percy was nestled into the cover's on the left side of the bed, closer to the nightstand, scrolling on his phone. Since the bed was pressed against the wall and she didn't want to disturb him Annabeth climbed from the foot of the bed to the top. As soon as she settled in under the comforter, she sent Percy a sheepish grin.
"Better?" he asked.
She nodded. "Much. Thanks again."
"No problem." He reached over towards the nightstand and grabbed the snacks. He set everything down between them on top of the covers.
Annabeth smiled and put her hand into the popcorn bowl. "Ready to start?" she asked.
Percy nodded and pressed play.

6:17 P.M.
The ending credits of the movie rolled. Annabeth blinked and rubbed her eyes. Beside her, Percy was downing the rest of his water bottle.
"I love that movie," he stated.
Annabeth chuckled. "It is really good. Personally, the second one is my favorite."
"Maybe we can watch it after dinner," he suggested. "Do you have to be back at a certain time?"
She shrugged. "Not really. It's a Friday, and I'm not doing anything tomorrow."
"Alright. Do you want to bake cookies?"
Annabeth's eyes lit up. "That would be so fun."
He grinned and lifted the comforter off of himself, standing up. Annabeth followed suit, climbing out of his bed. She followed him to the kitchen, trying not to admire his rippling back muscles through his shirt.
A voice yanked her out of her thoughts. "Hey, Percy, how's it going? Oh, is that Annabeth behind you?"
Percy scratched the back of his neck and Annabeth stepped out so she could see better. Mr. Blofis was sitting in the living room on a recliner, a book in his hands.
She sent him a smile which he reciprocated. "Hey, Mr. Blofis."
"As long as we aren't in the classroom, you can call me Paul, if you'd like."
She nodded, but she knew that wouldn't be happening any time soon.
"Annabeth and I are going to bake cookies," Percy said. "Have you heard from Mom?"
Mr. Blofis nodded. "She just got out of work. She'll be home soon, probably about twenty minutes."
Percy looked at Annabeth mischievously. "Do you think we cant get cookies in the oven before she gets here?"
The blonde shrugged. "Only one way to find out."
-----
Friday, March 13th, 2020
6:32 P.M.
"Annabeth!"
"What now, Perce?"
The black-haired boy frantically stirred the shockingly blue cookie dough. "The chocolate chips! They're in the cupboard right above me. Can you get them?"
She sighed and nodded, pulling herself onto the counter and reaching over Percy's head to open up the cabinet. He glanced over at her and instantly returned his attention to the bowl he was mixing with red cheeks. Brushing that off, Annabeth grabbed the bag of chocolate chips out and shut the door before hopping off the cabinet.
"How much do you need?"
Percy shrugged. "Just eyeball it," he told her, grabbing a baking tray and lining it with parchment paper.
Annabeth dumped about a third of the contents into the dough and folded them in. Once it looked mixed enough, she grabbed a spoon and began balling up small chunks of dough and putting them on the tray Percy had lined. He did the same right next to her. Every time he reached for more dough, he bumped her playfully with his hip, causing them both to laugh.
As soon as all the dough was portioned out into cookies, Annabeth opened the oven door and Percy slid the tray into the oven. Once the door was shut, the two double high fived.
"We did it!" Percy cheered.
Annabeth laughed. "Yes, we did," she agreed. "How long do you think until your mom shows up?"
He scoffed. "Oh, five minutes? Not sure, but we had time to spare."
She narrowed her grey eyes. "So what you're saying is you didn't have to order me around like a servant."
He smirked. "Of course I did. That's part of the fun - having a manic kitchen."
The door slammed shut and a feminine voice said: "I strongly disagree."
The two teens looked over and saw a woman in her thirties hanging up her purse.
"Hi, Mom," Percy said, walking over to give her a quick hug and a kiss on the cheek.
His mom smiled. "Hey, sweetie." Then, she playfully glared. "You didn't tell me we had company tonight."
Suddenly, Annabeth felt like an intruder, right up until Percy laughed. "I wanted to surprise you," he said. "You've been wanting to meet her forever. This is Annabeth."
The blonde stepped out from behind the kitchen island to greet the woman. "Hi, it's nice to meet you," she said, offering her hand.
Percy's mom grinned. "Nice to meet you too, sweetheart. You can call me Sally." She completely avoided Annabeth's outstretched arm and gave her a tight hug.
She looked at Percy over his mom's shoulder, who was smiling at them affectionately. It was clear to Annabeth how much he loved his mom, and she found that endearing.
"Now," Sally said, pulling away from the hug, "contrary to my son's beliefs, I'll be keeping a tidy kitchen while I cook up some dinner. You'll be staying, I assume?"
Annabeth peeked at Percy, who sent her a nod. "Yeah, it seems like it."
Sally smiled. "Great. Are you okay with spaghetti and meatballs?"
"I love spaghetti," the blonde announced.

1:07 A.M.
When Annabeth woke up, she was majorly confused. She peered around the dark room, trying to figure out where she was and what was going on. As soon as her eyes fell on the person lying beside her, everything clicked and she relaxed.
After Sally arrived home, she whipped up some dinner and all four of them ate it at the table and talked. The cookies Percy and Annabeth made came out really good, so that was what they had for dessert. Then, the two teenagers returned to Percy's room with more snacks to watch the second Pirates of the Caribbean movie. At some point during the film, Annabeth had drifted off to dream world.
Now, she was laying in Percy Jackson's bed, curled up into his side with her head resting on his shoulder. All of her wiggling must have woken him up because she watched his lids flutter open and reveal his beautiful green eyes.
"You okay?" he murmured, his voice thick and deeper than usual.
Annabeth opened her mouth, shut it, and opened it again. "Yeah, I'm fine. I didn't mean to fall asleep," she admitted.
His eyes twinkled. "'Favorite movie,' huh? Seen it so many times it bored you to sleep?"
She scoffed. "No, just tired and comfortable." She rubbed her eyes. "What time is it?"
Percy grabbed his phone off of his nightstand. "A little after one."
She sighed and nestled deeper into the warm covers. "So I'll be staying here then."
"Good." Percy set his phone back down and rolled over so he was on his left side. "I wouldn't have let you catch a taxi this late anyway."
Annabeth turned to face away from him. Immediately, Percy draped his arm around her waist and tugged her backward so their bodies were flush against each other.
"Goodnight, Annabeth."
"Night, Percy."

12:16 P.M.
Percy walked beside Annabeth out of the cafeteria and toward their next class, mythology. She was rambling on about how much happier Piper seemed ever since she and Jason got together about a week prior.
Percy's thoughts were in two places: part of him was thinking about how glad he was that his childhood best friend had finally asked out his crush, and the other part was thinking about how he wished he had the guts to ask out his.

"Percy, I'm going to throw up."
Her best friend laughed, very unhelpfully. "You're going to do amazing, Annabeth. You practiced this speech so many times I bet you don't even need your notes anymore."
She took in a shaky breath. "You're right, honestly. But what if I mess it up?"
Percy shrugged. "You're human. Restart the sentence and try again. No one's going to judge you."
Annabeth nodded. "Okay, if you say so."
He smiled softly and wrapped her up in a comforting hug. "You're going to do amazing, Annabeth. I'm sure of it."
She rubbed his gown covered back and pulled back. "Thanks, Seaweed Brain."
"The ceremony will begin in five minutes," the announcer stated. "Will everyone please find their seats?"
Percy shot Annabeth a smile before walking over to the middle of the student seating section. Meanwhile, she rushed towards the front row, right between to Silena Beauregard and Rachel Dare. She fiddled with her gown until the ceremony began.
Several speakers gave speeches, including Malcolm Pace, the salutatorian, before the principal took the stage. "Now, we have one final speaker. Will Annabeth Chase, Goode High School's Class of 2020 Valedictorian please take the stage?"
With a deep breath, Annabeth grabbed her notecards and stood up. She walked over to the stairs and was grateful that she didn't trip on her gown. Once she was at the podium, she scanned the crowd while some guy fiddled with the microphone. She saw her family, her peers, and most importantly, her closest friends. Piper grinned and waved, Jason sent her a goofy thumbs-up, and Percy blew up his cheeks like a pufferfish.
Annabeth bit back a laugh and settled for a smile. All of her nerves vanished and she started her speech.
Time flew by and suddenly she was stating her final few words. "So, no matter what you end up doing after today, never forget to take time for yourself, your family, and your friends. Don't lose your relationships while fighting for your dreams. Thank you."
She grabbed her papers and confidently walked off the stage. As she stepped down the stairs, she made eye contact with Percy. He sent her a wink, which made her grin and blush all at the same time.
After she sat down, the principal began calling students up for their diploma one by one, in order of their last names. When she walked up, her friends screamed. She made sure to cheer them all on just as loudly.
Finally, the ceremony was done. All of the students stood from their seats and tossed their caps up into the air. Annabeth was laughing and crying all the same. Within moments, Piper was at her side, hugging her best friend and sobbing into her shoulder.
After the girls' mini cry session, Percy and Jason came up to them. Percy wrapped his arms around Annabeth's waist and hoisted her into the air, spinning her in a circle.
"I told you you were going to do amazing!" he exclaimed, setting her down.
She laughed, brushing her hair behind her ear. "It was really scary, Perce, but I'm really proud of myself."
He grinned tossing his arm across her shoulders and pressing a kiss to her cheek. "I'm proud of you too, Annabeth. Now, come on, my mom wants to see you."

6:28 P.M.
Percy and Annabeth were about halfway through their first movie of the night. They had planned to watch every single Marvel movie in chronological order over the next few days. Personally, he preferred D.C. comics and movies, but whatever made Annabeth happy made him happy.
"Perce, can you pause it?"
Nodding, he reached for the remote and paused the movie. Annabeth jumped off of Percy's bed and ran across the hallway to the bathroom. Percy continued to happily munch on some popcorn while looking at the hilariously paused image of Tony Stark on his television.
Not too long after, he heard a shriek, and Annabeth came sprinting back in his room. Her grey eyes were wild and wide.
"What's wrong?" Percy asked, sitting up and looking around frantically.
She sped over to him and dove under the covers. Percy poked her small frame through the blanket and she wriggled away from his touch. Sighing, he pulled the blanket off of her so he could see her face. "Annabeth, what happened?"
She sheepishly looked into his eyes. "Sp-spider in the sink," she muttered.
Percy bit back a smile and stood up from his bed. He quickly walked over to the bathroom and spotted the eight-legged criminal scurrying around in the porcelain sink. He grabbed a tissue and smooshed the arachnid and flushed it down the toilet. He rinsed his hands before returning to his bedroom.
No matter how strong and tough Annabeth appeared, there was one thing that shook her to the core and made her act like a damsel in distress - spiders. Percy didn't really know why the fear was so embedded in her - something about getting bitten by one when she was younger - but he did know that her reaction was really cute and that she was repulsed by Tom Holland.
Percy walked over to his bed and sat down. "All taken care of," he murmured.
Annabeth peered up at him. "Really?"
He smiled and nodded. "Yeah, he's all gone."
"That thing," she spat, narrowing her eyes, "is not a 'he'. It is an 'it'."
He ruffled her hair and chuckled. "Whatever you say, Wise Girl."
Suddenly, he was being suffocated in a strangling hug. Annabeth had thrown her body on top of his and darted her arms around his neck with her legs wrapping around his waist like a koala bear. She nestled her head in the crook of his neck and Percy took in the scent of her lemony fresh blonde curls as he tentatively draped his arms across her back.
"You're the best best friend ever," she told him.
Percy shivered as her lips brushed his ear. "How so?" he asked in a tight voice.
"Well," Annabeth began, "you're watching twenty-something movies with me that you don't even like that much because it's my birthday week, you baked me the most amazing cookies ever yesterday, bought me the sweetest gift, and killed a spider for me."
He chuckled and tightened his arms around her small body. "I am pretty great, huh?"
She sat up so she was straddling his waist and sent him a breathtaking smile. Then she rolled to her right and nestled into his side. Percy held her close with his left arm and resumed the movie, trying to ignore the sudden erratic pace of his heartbeat.

8:02 A.M.
Annabeth was standing at the Jacksons' apartment door and grinning like an idiot. She was really excited and really nervous at the same. She knocked lightly on the door and waited patiently for someone to open it.
Within a minute, the door swung open and revealed Sally Jackson, who was smiling just as brightly as Annabeth was. "Come in, sweetie," she murmured in her motherly tone.
Annabeth adjusted her tote bag on her shoulder and hoisted her cooler up off of the ground, walking inside. "What should I do with these?" she asked.
Sally pointed to a spot on the floor in the kitchen. "Leave them there," she said. "After I get his swimsuit I'll have Paul bring them down and put them in his car."
She nodded and did just so. "Is Percy still asleep?" the blonde asked, ringing her hands behind her back.
Sally nodded, rolling her baby blue eyes. "I can never get him up before ten o'clock unless I bribe him with food," she complained. "But, speaking of, the pancakes are ready."
Annabeth grinned. "Awesome, thank you so much."
"Of course, sweetheart," she said. "I should be thanking you."
The teenager furrowed her eyebrows. "Why would you do that?"
"Because you've brought out the best in my son over these past few months," the mother explained, "and now you're treating him once again."
Annabeth scoffed. "Whatever I've done for Percy is nothing in comparison to what he's done for me," she told her.
Sally smiled. "If you say so. Now, go and wake him up before the pancakes get cold."
The blonde nodded and zipped down the hallway. She quietly opened Percy's door and spotted him on his bed, laying on his stomach with his face turned toward the door. She smirked and shut the door behind her before creeping over to him. She took a moment to admire his ruffled black hair, long lashes, and plump pink lips. Then, taking in a deep breath, she kneeled beside him.
"Percy," she murmured, "it's time to get up."
He didn't move.
"Perce," she said a little louder.
Still no movement.
"Seaweed Brain!" she practically shouted.
Nothing.
Annabeth didn't know whether to laugh or be annoyed. He really did sleep like a coma patient. Rolling her eyes, she gently ran her fingers through his messy black hair. "Percy, you've got to get up now," she told him.
Finally, his eyelids drifted open. "Annabeth?" he groaned out.
She smiled and nodded. "Yeah, it's me. Come on, get up."
"What are you doing here?" he asked, squinting at her as if to see if she was real or not.
Annabeth stood up and pulled the comforter off of him. "You'll see. Let's go, up and at 'em Seaweed Brain."
He stretched and rubbed his eyes, giving her the perfect opportunity to drool over his shirtless figure. Four years of being on the swim team did many wonders. Percy was gorgeously tanned and toned without looking like a steroid-taking bodybuilder.
He blinked a few times and sat up. Annabeth shifted her gaze to the floor while he climbed out of bed and tossed on a shirt from his dresser. Once he was clothed, she grabbed his right hand with her left one and dragged him down the hallway.
"What is going on?" Percy asked.
Annabeth sent him a mischeivous look over her shoulder. "Just go with it, yeah?"
"Whatever you say," he murmured, shuffling along behind her.
As soon as they stepped into the kitchen, Percy's eyes lit up with realization. Four plates of blue pancakes sat on the table, one of them decorated with candles.
"Happy birthday!" Annabeth, Sally, and Paul exclaimed.
The birthday boy blinked thrice before his lips curled up into a smile and he turned towards his best friend. "You're a legend," he told her, wrapping her up in a massive hug.
She laughed and hugged him back. "Just you wait," she told him.
He set her down. "There's more?"
She smiled and shrugged. "Maybe?"
With that, Annabeth tugged Percy over to the table and pushed him into his chair. She sat down next to him and watched eagerly as he blew out his candles.
The four of them ate their breakfast happily and chattered about anything and everything. Once everyone's food was gone, Annabeth volunteered herself and Percy as the designated dishwashers, causing him to send her a playful glare. She just laughed and dragged him over to the sink. While she did that, she noticed Sally rushing down the hallway. Annabeth smiled. Everything was running perfectly.
She and Percy finished the dishes within ten minutes. They could have been done faster, but she kept distracting him with jokes and other comments so that he didn't notice his mom walking into the kitchen with his swimsuit or Paul exiting the apartment with a cooler and a tote bag.
After drying the last fork and putting it in the drawer, Annabeth turned to Percy. "Come with me," she said.
He narrowed his eyes. "Okay," he drawled.
She led him over to the doorway and handed him a pair of sneakers. "On," she ordered.
He held his hands up in surrender. "Bossy," he muttered. "If we're going somewhere, can I at least brush my teeth first?"
"I suppose," Annabeth said, sighing dramatically.
He rolled his eyes and walked down the hallway. While he went into the bathroom, Annabeth shoved her sandals on. Paul returned from his mission to the car and handed her the keys, sending her a smile. Then, he walked away and joined Sally in their bedroom.
Percy returned and slid his feet into his grey Adidas. "I'm ready," he told her hesitantly,
Annabeth smiled. "Great, let's go."
She walked out of the apartment and over to the elevator. Once they made it down to the ground floor, she grabbed his hand and guided him out of the building and over to the small parking lot adjacent it. She unlocked Paul's blue Prius and climbed into the driver's seat. Percy tentatively sat down on the passenger's seat.
Annabeth started the car and began to drive to their destination. Every five minutes or so, Percy would ask where they were going. She just laughed and told him to be patient. He never gave up though, so, eventually, she had to turn the radio on and let the noise drown him out. He scoffed and nudged her arm playfully before singing along to Post Malone.
After about forty minutes, Annabeth pulled the car into a spot in a dirt lot. She glanced at the time - a little after ten o'clock, perfect timing - before taking the keys out and looking at Percy.
"Do you know where we are?" she asked him.
He bit his lip and shook his head. "Not a clue."
She grinned. "What's your favorite place in the entire world?"
His green eyes widened. "You didn't."
Annabeth nodded and smiled. "I asked your mom for some help. She gave me the address and directions, made up those pancakes, and..." She paused, digging around in the bag in the back seat. "She hid this away while we were washing dishes," she finished, handing Percy's his blue swim trunks.
He was still staring at her in shock. "You planned this all out?" he asked in disbelief.
She brushed a curl behind her ear. "Yeah. Are you happy?"
Percy stared at her in shock. "Of course I'm happy! You are one of a kind, Chase."
She laughed and unbuckled. "Come on, let's go find a spot on the beach."
They got out of the car and carried their stuff along a short trail and to the sand. Surprisingly, there was no one else there, even though it was a blazingly sunny day mid-August. They chose a spot generally close to the water and as Annabeth spread out some towels, Percy ducked into a Porta-Potty and changed out of his shorts and into his trunks.
He returned with a large smile on his face. Annabeth looked up at him and smiled back. He hoisted her up into the air and spun her around.
"You're the best," Percy told her, putting her down again.
Annabeth kept her hands on his bare shoulder. "I know," she teased.
He laughed and set his clothes onto one of the towels. "Want to go into the water?" he asked her.
She nodded. "Yeah, but we should put some sunscreen on first, don't you think?"
Percy groaned. "I guess," he drawled.
Annabeth rolled her eyes and took out the spray sunscreen she had packed the night before. She climbed out of her grey tank top and lightwash jean shorts, revealing her black bikini. "Spray me and I'll spray you?" she asked Percy.
He blinked. "Huh? Oh, yeah sure."
She rolled her eyes and handed him the can. Standing with her arms and legs out like a starfish, she waited patiently for Percy to spray her body. She squealed when the cool spray hit her skin and he laughed.
Once she was all coated, Annabeth quickly sprayed Percy's back, legs, arms, and chest. They both rubbed a little onto their faces.
"Okay, now can we go swimming?" Percy asked impatiently.
Annabeth rolled her eyes. "We have to wait a few minutes or else it will all just wash off, Seaweed Brain."
He groaned. "How annoying," he complained.
She snorted and plopped down on her towel. Drawing her knees to her chest, she asked, "Did I surprise you?"
Percy nodded, replicating her actions and sitting on his towel. "For sure. I figured you'd do something for my birthday, but planning a full beach day and getting my parents in on it was totally unexpected. But I love it. Thanks again, Annabeth."
She smiled up at him. "Of course, Percy."
The two stared into each other's eyes for a long moment before Annabeth cleared her throat and averted her gaze to the ocean. "I packed a lot of snacks," she informed.
"Like what?" Percy asked, already rummaging through the cooler.
Annabeth rolled her eyes. "All kinds of stuff. Fruit, chips, candy, sandwiches, the works. But we just ate breakfast and we're about to go swimming so be patient, alright?"
Once again, he groaned like a little kid not getting what he wanted. "Why are there so many rules for the beach?" he asked the sky.
She laughed and stood up. "I think we can get in the water now," she said, offering her hand for him to take.
Percy grabbed her hand with his and tried to hoist himself up, but, seeing as he was around fifty pounds heavier than she was and she didn't have a good stance because of the sand, Annabeth fell on top of him.
Their legs were tangled together, one of Annabeth's arms was trapped between them, the other still attached to Percy's, and her face was smooshed against his hard chest. Immediately, she rolled to the side.
"I am so sorry," they both apologized at the same time. That caused them both to erupt into fits of laughter.
They stood up - individually this time - and Annabeth brushed the sand off of her skin. With a big grin on his face, Percy dragged her over to the water and dove in. He made it out to his neck within seconds, not even fazed by the cool temperature. He floated along with the waves like a seal.
Annabeth giggled, slowly wading into the icy ocean. Once she got about waist deep, something wrapped around her knees and yanked her legs so she was no longer standing. She yelped before being dragged out deeper into the sea. She scrunched up her face so water didn't get in her eyes or nose.
Finally, she slowed down and peeked out through narrow lids. Percy stood in front of her, water up to his neck, his arms wrapped around her legs, and a mischievous smile on his lips.
Annabeth wriggled out of his grip and tread water beside him. "You're a jerk." She pouted, but she wasn't really that upset with him.
"For?" he prompted.
Her teeth chattered and she shivered. "For making me cold!" she excused.
Percy laughed and pulled her body into his. "Better?" he asked.
She shrugged and looked over his shoulder. "Those are some massive waves, Perce."
He turned so he could see it and nodded, agreeing. "Want to try and body surf?" he asked excitedly.
Annabeth rolled her eyes and shook her head. "No, I'm going to swim out a little more so I don't get hit. You can have at it, though."
"Okay," he said, immediately swimming to the shallow waters where the waves were breaking.
For about twenty minutes, Annabeth bobbed in the water and watched Percy dive into waves and body surf on them like a little kid. It may have been his nineteenth birthday, but he was still very young at heart. It made Annabeth smile.
That was one of the many things she loved about him. She loved the way that even after all he'd been through, he kept a smile on his face. She loved the way he put others before himself. He loved the way he could make her laugh after a bad day.
She sighed. No matter how strong her feelings were for her best friend, if he didn't reciprocate them, they were invalid. And Percy didn't reciprocate them. He loved her like a friend, or even worse, a sister.
But he had been acting especially romantic and affectionate recently, Annabeth realized. Maybe...
As she was thinking about this, she noticed Percy get hit by a particularly large wave and not return to the surface for a long time. Panicked, she began to swim in an look for him. She made it all the way to knee-deep water before he jumped up next to her, scaring her to death.
"Percy!" she shrieked, shoving his chest.
He laughed and rested his hands over hers. "Scared you?"
Annabeth pouted. "Yes!" she exclaimed.
He laughed some more and she stepped away from him. "Did you really think that I would have drowned after being hit by that? I've been swimming practically since I was born. I've been swamped by much worse than that."
She scoffed and walked out of the water. "I wasn't thinking about that, alright?" she defended, embarrassed at how nervous she had been.
Percy ran after her, still laughing. He threw his arm over her shoulders and walked with her to their towels. "I'm hungry. Is it lunchtime yet?"
Annabeth shook her head. "Mean best friends aren't allowed to eat food packed by nice best friends," she declared.
"Oh, come on," he whined, "that wasn't in the handbook!"
She bit back a smile. "Yes, it was, right on page 36."
He smacked his forehead. "Of course, right after the part about sleepover etiquette," he joked.
Annabeth grinned. "Clearly you skimmed that portion as well."
Percy cackled and collapsed on his towel. "But honestly, what's for lunch?"
"I made you a BLT," she said, "and I have chicken salad. There's chips and some drinks, as well as some other stuff."
He looked at her with a goofy smile on his lips. "You are incredible."
She smiled and a light blush coated her cheeks. "I know," she said, but the compliment truly meant a lot to her.
Handing Percy some food, they both dug in. As they ate, Percy raved about how perfect everything had been and how grateful he was. Annabeth just watched him talk and smiled, trying to ignore the butterflies in her stomach.
After they finished all their food, Percy decided he wanted to go back in the water. Annabeth decided against it and pulled out the book she had brought. As he went in for a dip, she lost herself in between the words.
She wasn't sure how much time had passed when two wet arms hooked around her waist and hoisted her in the air. She screamed and dropped her book, frantically trying to get away. A familiar deep chuckle sounded, causing her to stop struggling.
"Seaweed Brain!" Annabeth exclaimed.
Percy nestled his face in her neck. "Yes, Annabeth?"
She groaned. "You scared me," she complained, "again!"
He laughed and set her down, walking around her so they were face to face. "Lighten up, Wise Girl."
She rolled her eyes and shoved his chest. Just like he did earlier, he rested his hands over hers. This time, though, Annabeth didn't walk away. Were his eyes always this beautiful? They were the exact color of the sea, rippling with emotions. His long lashes fluttered as he blinked and his pink lips parted in surprise.
Wait, why was she looking at his lips?
Annabeth nervously looked at the ground, causing her dried hair to fall in her face. Percy's hand darted forward and pushed the strands behind her ear. She looked up at him and felt the urge to kiss him.
So she did.
Annabeth leaned forward and tilted her head up, pressing her lips against his. Percy didn't react for a few seconds, making her worried, but once he had surpassed his shock, he slowly moved his lips against hers. She wormed her hands out of his grip and entangled them in his damp hair. Percy's arms snaked around her waist and pulled her closer.
They kissed until they were both out of breath and Annabeth pulled away, panting a little. Percy was smiling down at her, causing her to realize that maybe her feelings weren't so one-sided after all.
"I - I really like you, Percy," Annabeth blurted. "I've liked you for a really long time now, and I know you probably don't feel the same way, but I thought you should know that."
He grinned so widely that she couldn't help but smile back. "I like you too, Annabeth. I always knew we had a special kind of bond, but ever since - well, ever since Jason and Piper got together, I couldn't help but wish we had more."
Annabeth's eyes widened. Percy liked her? "Like what?" She spoke slowly, not wanting to seem too eager.
"Like a romantic relationship," he explained. "Annabeth, will you be my girlfriend?"
Her face broke out into a grin and, instead of verbally answering him, she kissed him. "Yes," she murmured once she pulled away, "I'd love to be your girlfriend."
The new couple spent the rest of their day at the beach, swimming, laughing, teasing each other, and hugging. Oh, and lots of kissing. Annabeth couldn't help but be grateful that Percy had texted her all those months ago.
