Annabeth's pov:

"Why are you sitting there?" Some random kid asked me.

I shrugged. "Because I like sitting alone."

He left me there, walking off to his friends laughing. I turned towards my other friends, but quickly turned back. Piper was staring at me, and I evidently didn't know what to do.

"The dance is today, don't forget!" A preppy cheerleader shouted out, holding flyers.

I already had a flyer next to me. The dance was at eight pm till eleven. Honestly, I didn't care, just as long as the food was good.

Suddenly, a wet cold substance drizzled down my back, making me shudder.

"What the hell?!" I shouted, the whole cafeteria laughing.

I turned towards Drew who had a milk carton in her hands. "Serves you right." She said.

I rolled my eyes, then ran to the bathroom, hood over my face so no one could see the 'treacherous milk accident' victim.

Cleaning myself up, I cursed at the mirror. Why the heck did everything bad have to happen to me? Why, out of all the billions of people, did I have to be the unlucky person and live a life like this? Why can't I be normal?

I punched the mirror in frustration, then pulled back after hearing a sickening crunch. I loudly cursed, holding my injured hand. Some of the glass had embedded into my knuckle.

I didn't know I was crying until the warm salty tears fell onto the ground.

Why me? I thought, as I slid to the floor.

Why

. . .

"Who are you going to go with to the dance?" Thalia asked me.

I turned to face her with a suprised expression. I didn't expect anyone to speak to me, let alone Thalia.

"Um . . . I don't know."

"I thought Percy asked you?"

"He did." I said. "But I think we broke up."

Thalia raised an eyebrow. "He might speak to Calypso more, but he still sure as hell loves you."

I laughed. "I haven't spoken to him since yesterday. In fact, no one has spoken to me at all since yesterday except for you."

Thalia sighed. "I know, and I'm sorry for that." She smiled. "Yeah, you were pretty rude to Calypso but it doesn't mean Piper had to kick you out."

I shrugged. "Yeah, don't worry about that. I don't care anymore, Piper could go die for all I care."

"You really mean that?"

"Yes." I said, with no emotion.

Thalia patted her black jeans. Apparently, she couldn't care less about this dance, and like me- she was only in it for the food. So Thalia decided to wear her normal clothes, her black jeans and her 'vintage' (her words, not mine) Death to Barbie shirt.

I, on the other hand, actually wanted to look okay, and brought a dress. It wasn't anything big, just a long light grey dress. I didn't wear any makeup and my hair was just let out and brushed. I wasn't there to impress, only to eat.

Thalia checked the time on her phone. "Come on, let's go. The dance already started ten minutes ago."

I sighed. "Yeah, so I can humiliate myself in front of your friends."

"My friends?" Thalia raised an eyebrow. "They're our friends."

It was my turn to look skeptical. "Well, they're sure not acting that way."

Thalia turned towards me whilst opening the door. "Believe me, by the end of this dance we'll all be friends again."

. . .

The loud trashy pop music engulfed me as I stepped inside the hall the school had rented. Although the music was a bad choice, the venue most definitely wasn't.

Neon coloured lights danced across the room, and confetti lay everywhere. Mostly popular girls were dancing, while the rest just stood there awkwardly.

"Wow." Thalia said, pointing at a large table. "Look at the food."

I turned my head towards it. My jaw dropped to the floor, the amount of food there was a lot. And it was good food too.

Me and Thalia both sat down at a table, talking and laughing.

Suddenly, Thalia looked ahead of me, eyes wide. "They're coming towards us." Thalia whispered.

I turned, noticing my used to be 'friends' walking over to Thalia.
"Do they not know that I'm here?" I asked, pointing at myself.

"I think so too, your hair is out so they probably don't." She looked at me. "Please stay."

I realised Piper was coming too, and I did not want to stay and face her. "Sorry Thalia, but I'm not speaking to them." I smiled at her. "I'll see you when your conversation is done."

I quickly walked over to the middle of the hall, pretending to dance. Some poor guy came up to me, his slowed movements clearly showing me he was drunk.

"Hey beautiful." He slurred. "I like your dress."

I rolled my eyes, and pushed past him. A popular girl came up to me and her sharp heels stomped onto my shoes. Thank the Gods I was wearing converse.

"What the hell?" I asked.

The girl only rolled her eyes. "Come on, dance!"

I pushed past another person, yet again.

A hand clasped onto my shoulder, and I swiftly tuned around ready to punch said person in the gut.

"Woah there, Annabeth." Thalia said. "It's just me."

I laughed. "Sorry, I thought you were some intoxicated boy."

Thalia laughed. "They're everywhere aren't they?"

"Uh huh."

. . .

"I feel like a loner. The only person I'm talking to is you." I said.

Thalia put her hand on her chest mockingly. "You don't want to talk to me?"

"Of course I'd want to, ya doofus."
(*sings* Doofenshmirtz Evil Incorporated!!!)

"Oh, crap." Thalia muttered, looking behind me.

"What? Is there something wrong, do I have somethin-"

Thalia stormed over to whoever was behind me, and unfortunately- that was when I decided to look.

I didn't scream, I didn't even shout or cry, I just stood there transfixed on my spot staring at the two people. Of course, I thought. Of course he would do that, I thought.

Thalia went up to Percy, shouting at him as I just stood there mouth open.

"How could you do that?!" Thalia said. "First Piper kicks her out, and now you go kissing another girl in front of her!"

Calypso was behind Percy, staring at the floor dejectedly . "It's okay, Thalia." I said.

Thalia turned towards me. "I can see right through you, Annabeth. It's not okay, he-"

"I knew he was going to do it." I looked at Percy. "But that doesn't mean what he did was right." I turned towards the others. "And you all watched him do it, huh?"

The music had stopped now, and most people were staring at us. I turned towards Calypso menacingly, "and you, Calypso whatever-the-hell-your-surname-is, I thought you were with Leo? Or are you a cheater too, like your disgusting excuse of a boyfriend." I pointed at Percy.

"Annab-" I cut Percy off.

"Don't say my name, don't talk to me. Don't even look at me, okay?" I said. "And since I'm not a coward, I will not run away or anything like that. I'll stay and enjoy this dance, have fun with your new girlfriend." I smiled sweetly, though in the inside I was dying.

I knew it, I knew the gods had it in for me ever since I ran away. I couldn't find a loving family, I couldn't find a group of friends, I couldn't find peace- heck, I couldn't even find love!

And now, at a place where I thought I could break away from my terrifying thoughts and at least have something good once in a while, had become a victim to the horrible thing I call

My life.

"Come on Thalia." I hesitantly smiled. "The food's not going to eat itself."

Thalia looked back at Percy, then to me. "Come on, then. Let's go."

"I'm sorry," Thalia said. "I didn't know that this was going to happen, we can leave you know?"

"No, it's not your fault." I could feel the hot tears ready to fall any minute. "I already knew this was going to happen." I brushed the tears away, yet more was coming. "Everyone hates me, everyone bloody hates me."

"Not me," Thalia muttered softly.

I laughed, though it sounded like I was sobbing. "Ok then fine, everyone except Thalia hates me, everyone except Thalia bloody hates me. That better?"

"This day can't go any worse." I whispered, and although I felt like this was the most dreadful thing to happen to me-

The worst was yet to come.

"Attention, everyone!" Drew's preppy voice echoed across the hall. "I would like to make an announcement."

"Annabeth Chase, could you please come to the stage?" She asked sweetly.

My mind was too clouded to understand what she was going to do.

"Um, okay." I smiled, and walked over to the stage.

"I have a confession." Drew's smile was gone, and replaced with a fake frown. "A confession that one boy in this school would hate. A confession about the girl next to me."

My smile was gone, the whole school watching. "What are you doing?" I whispered.

Drew ignored me. "Annabeth Chase is a murderer. A cold hearted, murderer." The whole school started whispering. "And I have proof."

"Annabeth used to live in San Francisco. She was neighbours to a boy, that boy is Leo Valdez." She turned towards Leo. "You used to live in San Francisco, right?"

Leo nodded slowly, the others looking at me confused. "Yeah, I did."

"Due to unforeseen circumstances, she lit their house on fire." The whole school gasped in unison. "I have her diary with me for proof."

She used the schools whiteboard to show the few pages in which I wrote what I did, waiting a good few minutes to allow it to kick in.

"No," Leo muttered, looking at me in the eye. "You didn't right?"

I nodded slowly. "Bu-"

"You murderer!" Leo shouted, trying to come up on stage. "My sister died because of you! My mother was affected, I had to be put up in a foster home because of you!"

Drew struggled to talk over the shouting. "There, I told you, Annabeth Chase is a murderer! Don't trust her, friends, family, teachers alike. Out of anger, she killed Leo Valdez's family, she commited arsen!"

"No!" I screamed. "I was young, I wasn't thinking straigh-"

"You're never thinking straight!" Piper screamed.

"Shut up!" I shouted, in between sobs. "I didn't mean for this to happen, I never did."

I turned towards Thalia, but she was too busy trying to comfort Leo. "Thalia?"

Thalia turned towards me, "you make me sick. To think I stuck up for you, I never realised you were- you're  horrible!"

The whole school was shouting, most of them throwing insults at me. I couldn't even see properly, the tears blurring my vision.

Please stop shouting at me. I pushed past the stage. I can't think straight, please. Piper was trying to get to me. I don't think I can take this. The vomit was starting to build up, people were screaming at me. My head hurts. Drew was smiling at me. I need to go, could you move please? People were laughing at my state. The world is turning- is that normal?

You're a monster!
That was the last audible words I heard before my head crashed onto something hard and I lost my vision.

The end
