Chap 48
(Get your tissue boxes ready)
Percy turned back towards the guard, me doing the same. The guards were pouring in from every single door, too much to count. Although a sickening thought, whilst fighting I had frequently wondered as to how one of us weren't severely injured, or worse, dead.
Sure, Piper had a gash on her leg, yet for us that was okay. We had prepared ourselves for this, no matter how much I wanted to stop, I couldn't.
Suddenly, a blast coming from Frank's side lightened up the whole area, and screams engulfed my ears. I turned towards the havoc, only to have thought a million times to wipe that memory fresh out of my mind.
The middle of the building had collapsed, forming a gaping hole as wide as my living room. Some unfortunate guards who had lost their slipping fell into the abyss, their screams echoing across the room. For a minute, the whole room fell into a peaceful silence, until Kronos started shouting.
We formed back into our positions, ready to take on another round. Percy decided to spoil it.
"Come out and fight, you coward!" He screamed, directing it at Kronos.
Kronos snarled, his injured guards stopping. My friends stopped too, listening in to their conversation. "Why Percy, I'll start now if you insist." His smile deepened and I had forced myself not to gag.
Kronos stood up, directing his scythe at Percy. He seemed to forget about us, just watching Percy. I wasn't focused on them though, only Kronos's eyes. The ones that used to belong to Luke.
Now, they were of a pure gold. A colour I thought could not be seen, yet then again I never thought this whole thing could happen. I stared longingly, praying to anyone who could do something, that the gold shades on his eyes would at least change back into the blue I had come to love.
I sighed defeatingly, ready to stop looking, until someone answered my call. They did a bit more, even. Kronos was ready to pounce onto Percy, his scythe poised to attack. I sucked in a breath, until a miracle happened. Kronos's face seemed to shift, he started to shake and scream, as if fighting between the two souls trapped in one body.
The gold eyes that had engulfed the normal shades of blue, flickered back to its old self. The others were too dazed to notice, I was the only one that had seen them change. I smiled to myself, thinking that maybe, just maybe, Luke would return.
Percy charged at Kronos, right when Kronos snapped back into reality. Thalia ducked under, ready to throw her shield at his leg, or swipe with her spear at his head. I thought to myself, thinking that this would be an easy defeat.
I had never been more wrong in my life.
Kronos seemed to know every single tactic we were doing, counterparting it with a move just as quick as ours. I was starting to sweat badly, this guy was getting on my nerves. His moves were better, even. So good that I had come very close to death when fighting him.
Piper was on the floor, shouting at us, pointing at his weaknesses. It was almost as if she could see right through him.
We were going great, until Kronos caught Leo's hammer, then threw it back at him, hitting him dead straight in the end. Leo didn't even manage to cry out, he just crumpled to the floor unconscious.
At least, I thought he was unconscious.
One by one, Kronos managed to defeat us. He had grabbed Hazel by her hair, throwing her so hard she crashed onto the floor, not managing to get back up. Frank had lost his guard when he had turned towards her, and Kronos managed to punch him in the stomach so hard, that he too had crumpled onto the floor.
Jason tried to help him up, get him out of the havoc, yet Kronos used this as an advantage. As quick as a flash, he grabbed a brick from the rubble and threw it at Jason, landing square on his head. Jason fell down, and I cried out. Most of my friends were unconscious on the floor, the guards watching but not fighting, they knew this was Kronos's battle.
A small statue, yet big enough to crush us collapsed right next to me. I lunged to the right, narrowly missing it by seconds. Thalia, on the other hand, was not so lucky. She managed to duck too, yet her legs were underniably close to the statue.
"Thalia, no!" I cried, seconds before it crushed her lower body. She cursed, then turned towards me.
"I can't get up! Go! Fight Kronos before he changes fully." She gritted her teeth, beads of sweat surrounding her face, before she lacked enough energy to stay awake and fell unconscious.
I looked around at the others, it was just me and Percy. I ran towards Percy, my head throbbing from all the stress. Percy was being pushed into a wall, Kronos's scythe so powerful, he had managed to force Percy down.
Percy's face was full of concentration, yet his arm was tiring. Kronos managed to swipe at him, slashing his cheek. Percy cried out in pain, immediately throwing his hand on to his cheek with force. Kronos paused for a second, for a blue plastic hairbrush had hit him square in the eye. That gave me enough time.
I helplessly went in between Percy and Kronos, managing to hold my dagger against his scythe. "Annabeth, he'll kill you!" I heard Percy say.
Kronos staggered for a bit, confused.
I smiled, no matter how tiring this was getting. "You're not so powerful now, are you?"
Kronos roared in rage. I cursed; I had angered him, this would only make him seem more intimidating. A thought sprang up in my head, so ridiculous that it could actually work.
"Luke? You promised you wouldn't hurt me." I pleaded, wanting to get this over his mind.
Kronos's eyes wavered, from gold, to blue. He screamed in pain. "Stop it! Stop it now!"
I carried on, much to his distaste. The memories of me, Thalia and Luke flashed in my mind. From the times I first met him, to the times I nearly lost him. I then remembered something that Luke had said to me and Thalia, something that he vowed never to break.
"Family, Luke. You promised." The tears lingering on my eyes decided to fall.
The Titans leader fell onto the floor, his hand on his head. The gold started to dissappear, changing back into blue. Percy had managed to get up, yet I was too tired to move, my arms throbbing from holding him off for so long.
My dagger fell from my arms, my fingers feeling like someone has stabbed every single nerve that was there.
"Percy! The- the dagger. He's starting to, to make his full transformation. Give it to me!"
I stood there, dazed and shock, staring at the two boys. "What will you do with it?" Percy hurriedly said, though his voice was suprisingly calm.
"My arm," Kronos roared again, though Luke managed to come through, breaking past his force. "The only area that isn't bonded with me." He took a long breath. "W-with me and Kronos. I need to stab it, it will kill Kronos."
"It will kill you!" I screamed, trying to get to the dagger to prevent him.
Percy held me back, stopping me from getting it. I didn't try to fight though, I was too drained to do anything but helplessly watch. Percy grabbed the dagger, staring at it hard.
He turned towards Luke, as if wondering the outcomes. With a sigh, he gave it to him, averting his eyes.
Kronos screamed. "No! Stay away Luke Castellan, I will kill you!"
Kronos's face shimmered back into Luke's. With one last smile, Luke grabbed the dagger, and formed a small slit on his arm. For me, that would would make my arm tingle, maybe even feeling nothing from how shallow the cut was. Yet Luke shouted in pain, tears cascading down my face as I realised he was dying.
Luke turned towards me slowly, his eyes bloodshot. "Tell Thalia I'm sorry, okay? J-just make sure The Olympians. Make sure they do their promise." I held his hand, nodding my head and wiping at my tears furiously.
Luke's hand went limp against mine, and I screamed in agony.
"He wasn't meant to die! He wasn't meant to die!" I closed my eyes shut, praying that this was a dream. "He wasn't meant to die! He wasn't meant t-"
A hand went on my shoulder, yet I barely acknowledged it, still closing my eyes, not daring to look at the fallen hero. "I didn't even say goodbye. I watched him die, I watched Luke Castellan die!"
Footsteps could be heard from behind me, yet I still ignored them. "Please come back," I whispered. "Please, whoever is up there, please let him come back." I slammed my fist on the floor. "This wasn't the plan! We were supposed to stop Kronos, save Luke and come back with him. This wasn't part of the plan!"
My eyes starting to burn and blurring, I started shaking Luke violently. "Wake up!" I screamed. "Stop it, you're not supposed to die, wake up!"
I carried on doing this, pushing away the people that had gathered around me. I had cried so much, a small puddle of tears had formed at my feet. "I need you, okay?"
Percy was pulling me up from the floor, his face grim. "Get off me! I need to wake up Luke!" I cried.
Percy shook his head. "He's gone Annabeth, you know this." I stopped fighting, not out of my own will. Yellow spots were starting to dance around my eyes, and then the world started spinning. My eyes started to droop, and before I fell unconscious I whispered one more time.
"Please don't go."
