Chap 1
Annabeth's pov:
I woke up cold, head throbbing and my joints pained. Where the hell was I? I expected to be in a hospital, or at least still in the dance hall.
Memories of what happened emerged into my mind, and I shakily breathed whilst getting up. I broke up with Percy (or was it the other way around), everyone hated me and Drew?
Let's just say that if I ever see her again, I'll be suspected with murder.
Snap! I winced as a twig broke after meeting connection with my feet. I looked down and noticed I was still wearing my dress, yet it was in tatters and the bottom part was ripped. My shoes were still intact though, so walking was an option.
"Hello?" My voice echoed across the rooftops of the trees. "Anyone there?"
No answer.
I sighed and carried on walking to who knows where. These woods were unknown to me, yet they felt nostalgic. Like as if I was here before.
The sky was light, thank the Gods for that. If it was dark, I would have thought I was in a creepy horror film.
"Hello?" I called out again, voice hoarse. "Can someone help me?"
I called out to no avail, soon realising that this area was either abandoned, or uninhabitable.
. . .
I walked for about 2 hours before I heard the glorious sound of cars driving past.
"Cars!" I laughed. "I hear cars!"
I ran off to the sound despite my feet throbbing to the point where I had to bite my lip to ease the pain. I carried on running till I reached the clearing.
The roads were filled with cars. Must be the afternoon, I thought. I noticed a sign up ahead, and ran to it.
Long Island.
Long Island, why the hell am I in Long Island? I carried on thinking this as I trudged on the narrow sidewalk. I could just imagine the stares of people as they wandered why the hell I looked like this.
"Hello!" I turned to see a policeman calling me. "Yes, you!"
He ran to me, holding a badge. I rolled my eyes, your suit already told me that.
"Are you lost, ma'am?" He asked politely.
I nodded my head. "I don't know where I am, I just woke up in the middle of the forest."
"Uh huh." He said, "now what is your name?"
I raised my eyebrow, he didn't seem particularly shocked at what I said. "My name is Annabeth Chase."
"Annabeth Chase, huh?" He motioned with his hand, "follow me."
. . .
"This young woman was found wandering near Long Island," the policeman said. "Look her up for me."
I sat in the station, pulling my dress a little bit self consciously. I looked- and felt- horrible. The fact that the station was boiling hot did not help me.
"Are you sure your name is Annabeth Chase?" The policeman asked.
I nodded. "Why, is something wrong?"
The policeman nodded. "Says here that you died a year ago out of unknown causes."
"Let me see."
"Excuse me?"
I stood up. "Let me see the desktop, there must be something wrong on it," I pinched myself. "Last I checked, I'm not dead."
The policeman moved aside, raising an eyebrow at me. I ignored him, reading my profile.
Annabeth Chase
S: Female
Death: Died in their sleep out of unknown causes.
"Is that it?" I asked, the policeman nodding.
"Well, where is my birthday?" I crossed my arms. "My age, my date of birth, my-"
"When people are dead, this is what they show." The policeman said. "You even have a tombstone."
I laughed. "This is all a joke, right?" I asked, throwing my arms out. "It's not even my birthday."
The policeman coughed. "Sorry Ms. Chase, but I'm afraid I'm going to have to take you to the chief of security."
"But I did nothing wrong." I spluttered out. "Hey, let go of me!" He held a tight grip on my left arm. "I didn't do anything wrong!"
He turned towards me, looking at me straight in the eyes. "Sorry ma'am, but right now you are breaking a law. A law that hasn't been broken since the 1970's"
"Breaking a law?" I asked. "Well what law did I break?"
"Identity theft." He said, "Pretending to be Annabeth Chase, though why you'd want to be a dead person is any body's guess."
"You said that identity theft hasn't been used since the 1970's, it's used on the Internet hundreds of times- not that I'm doing it right now." I insisted.
The man raised an eyebrow. "Public identity theft. You're pretending to be a person publicly, that's a massive offense."
I paused, causing the mam to stumble. "I am Annabeth Chase." I exclaimed. "You're wrong!" I shouted, as he opened his car door. "You're wrong, and you'll be humiliated once proven."
The man shoved me into the car, smiling a little. "I'm wrong?" He asked mockingly. "Once you've been charged of identity theft Miss. Whatever Your Name Is, you'll be sentenced to prison. Due to pleading not guilty, your prison sentence will be added double to the previous amount."
I didn't answer back, only looking down at the cuffs he managed to put on me when holding my arm. "Take a sample of my blood."
The policeman nearly went off the road. "What?"
I rolled my eyes. "I mean, you can check my identity. Take a sample of my blood, and I assure you that it will say that I am Annabeth Chase."
The man grunted, his previous polite personality now vanished. "The court will decide."
"You're taking me to court already?!" I shouted, the man wincing at my volume.
He looked up at the rear view mirror. "Public identity theft is an important matter, I assure you that there will be a judge able to decide your fate."
"What will happen to me once they found out I am Annabeth?"
The car swivelled to the left, causing my head to nearly bang onto the window. "Watch the car, you'll have to pay if something gets damaged."
I ignored him. "Answer my question."
"Hm?"
"Answer my question. What will happen to me once they find out I am Annabeth Chase?"
The man raised an eyebrow. "If they -"
"Answer the damn question!" I shouted.
"You'll be taken away." He bluntly said.
"Taken away? Why the hell would they take me -"
"You're supposed to be dead."
