"Wait, where does this bit go again?"
--
"Grover, you're not supposed to eat that!" Percy shouted hysterically, watching with a humorous expression as his best friend of - almost - fifteen years chewed endlessly at a chunk of red and gold wrapping paper that he had just shoved into his own mouth, as if it was an apple. (Which, spoiler, it was not. It was very, very different from one, actually.)
"Jam I noght?"
"No!"
Grover blushed, embaressed, and immediately spat the wrapping paper out of his mouth.
"Oh, right. Sorry."
Percy stared down at the floor in distaste, his lip curled in disgust as he eyed the wet, chewed up paper.
"That is so gross. You are very gross."
"And you're not?"
Percy pursed his lips but didn't grace his friend with a response.
"That's what I thought."
Percy rolled his eyes and pulled a face.
--
"So first we do this, then fold this here. Now we need to fold it back after, then refold here. Now slather on the tape, mister."
Grover furrowed his eyebrows, his eyes narrowed in confusion with his head tilted to one side. "I can't tell if you're talking to me if as if you think I'm five or if you are just really that bad at wrapping presents. Or just have absolutely no idea how to, most likely."
Percy gasped exaggeratedly, both looking and sounding offended; he really was offended, if you couldn't guess.
"I am insulted, first of all." Percy said, moving his head around sassily as he did so.
"Oh, just go slather that present in tape, and leave me alone, will you?"
"No can do." Percy replied ignorantly, though at the same time he did exactly what he apparently couldn't do.
"Hmm, that looks like a lie. I think you might be a liar, Percy." Grover teased, a fond smile on his face as he shuffled forward on his knees until he was kneeled next where Percy sat cross-legged on the floor.
The two boys stared down at the medium sized box placed on the floor in front of them. The one Percy had somehow stuck his left hand to, at least four layers of tape wrapped around it, really keeping the two things together.
"And how did you manage this, Percy? I looked away for two seconds to grab a bow!"
"I thought we were both looking away! So it's your fault; you tricked me."
Grover snorted.
"Yeah, okay, Percy. Whatever you say."
--
"Screw it! Let's just buy a gift bag."
