"Who is that?" Percy asked the girl sitting next to him, one of his very best friends. He stared at the newcomer with his head angled to one side in perplexed fascination.
"Nico di Angelo." His friend replied, almost immediately; it was as if she already had the information stored away inside her brain.
She probably had.
He turned to face her with his eyes squinted in suspicion at her behaviour.
"And how do you know that?"
"I read his file. Duh." Annabeth said, shaking her head in resigned dissatisfaction at her friend.
"Because that isn't creepy."
"Oh, shut up. I know it is."
Percy laughed to himself, only just avoiding the elbow to the ribs that Annabeth sent his way.
--
"Who does he think he is, coming in here and taking my spot on the committee?"
Percy bit at his bottom lip in an effort to not make any sounds even close to a laugh.
"Erm, Nico di Angelo?"
Annabeth turned to look at Percy with a 'what the...' face.
"Oh, you think you're so funny, don't you?"
Percy nodded, straight-faced. "Yes. Yes I do."
Annabeth scowled.
--
"Hey, I don't think we've met yet. I'm Nico." The shadow before him finally introduced.
Percy glanced up from his work, his bright eyes meeting a pair of darker, much more serious ones.
"Percy." He nodded, once.
"Well, Percy, can you please tell your girlfriend-" Nico didn't get very far into his sentence before Percy interrupted him with a giggle.
"She isn't my girlfriend. I'm gay, dude."
"Oh, sorry. Well; can you please tell that blonde girl you're always with to stop with the death glares? I'm fear that I'll actually drop dead because of them, one of these days."
Percy drew a sympathetic expression, every part apologetic.
"Oh, yeah, of course. I understand that she can be a bit... much, at times."
"Try all of the time."
"Alright, I will."
Nico nodded. "Okay. I should go, now. Bye Percy."
"Bye, Nico."
--
"-All I'm asking for is for you to ease up on him a bit. Please. He's barely been here for two weeks so far, give him a break."
"Hmm, no promises."
"Annabeth." Percy warned. "Puhl-ease, Annieee?"
"Ew, you know I hate that nickname." Annabeth complained. "Fine, I'll ease up on him, as long as you promise to never call me that horrid name ever again."
"I promise."
--
"I just wanted to say thank you, Percy. My fears are sincerely grateful for your work."
"Wait, are you actually scared of Annabeth?"
"I am immensely scared of her."
Percy dissolved into joyous laughter at that fact.
"Alright, you can stop laughing now. Have a nice night." With that, Nico walked away from Percy's desk, his head downcast towards the floor.
Percy continued to laugh to himself, a small smile lighting up his features.
