"Sometimes I wish I wasn't a demigod"
Katie looked down in shame at the words that just left her mouth, but she kept going.
Dug a hole, might as well jump in.
"Sometimes, I wanna pack a bag, leave camp and never come back" She muttered again, trying not to let the tears fall from her eyes.
There was a moment of silence between them, but Miranda hesitantly broke it. "Sherman shouldn't be with Ciara, he should be with me"
Katie let out a breath and sat down on the floor of the rooftop while holding her head in her hands. She's never told a single soul about how she's feeling, and just to announce it to her sibling was a bit overwhelming. Miranda pursed her lips and sat across her sister. "You serious?"
"I don't know" Katie lifted her head and blinked away tears "I mean, I like it here at camp and I love Travis..but do you remember when we were just regular teenagers?"
Miranda nodded slightly and Katie took that as a signal to keep talking.
"Our biggest problems were bad hair days and not knowing what to wear." She said bitterly "And now it's whether if we're gonna die or not! We're literally on a brink of a war for goodness sake's!" Katie exclaimed while she threw her hands up in air.
Miranda raised her eyebrows, surprised at the sudden mood change of her sister. Katie didn't get mad easily, and her to do so, this must've been troubling her pretty bad.
"You know, everyday it's worrying about war, daily activities, while taking care of our little siblings," Katie trailed while wiping the tears off her cheeks "and on top of that, still trying to survive"
Miranda nodded at her reasoning "It's just too much sometimes?"
"Yeah, it's just- it never lets up" Katie sighed "It's really hard Miranda"
Miranda sighed "Have you talked to Travis about how you feel?"
Katie made eye contact with her "Have you talked to Sherman about how you feel?"
Miranda exhaled a bitter chuckle. She knew her answer. "Fair enough"
Katie put her head back in her hands as Miranda kept talking
"Well, we both admitted our awful and selfish secrets." Miranda let out an awkward laugh trying to make the best of things "Let's go back to our cabin"
She nodded and got to her feet. They started climbing down the ladder and heading for the Demeter cabin. Katie looked in the window, seeing that Travis was still asleep on his bed. She felt relieved for a second but guilt quickly smothered her senses.
Should she tell him?
Katie silently shook her head and followed her sister back to their cabin, getting ready for a good night's rest.
~The Next Day~
"Wake up, Katie" She peeled an eye open to see Miranda standing over her
She sat up and ran a hand through her frizzy hair. While looking at her sister, she saw that the rest of her siblings were already awake and dressed for the day, while she was still in her pajamas. "Take them to breakfast, I'll be right there"
Miranda nodded and obliged.
Once everyone was out the cabin, Katie got ready for the day and headed out the door. But instead of heading to breakfast, she walked to the dock.
Katie sat down and swung her legs over the edge. She kept her eyes on the blank skyline until she heard footsteps behind her.
"Miranda, I'm not hungry" She said as she didn't look back at her
"Well Katie-Kat thanks for that bit of information, but I'm not Miranda" She looked up and saw Travis. He had a lopsided grin on his face and sat down next to her.
"What are you doing here?" She asked him while he grabbed her hand and entwined their fingers together.
"Miranda wanted me to come get you and you weren't in your cabin, so I figured you were here" He answered
She just nodded, still keeping her focus on the skyline. There was a silence between them that was a bit awkward but Travis quickly broke it.
"I heard you and Miranda on the roof" He said nonchalantly
Katie's head snapped towards him and she let go of his hand. "What?"
"I heard you guys talking" Travis bit his lip. If Katie wasn't so freaked out, she probably would've blushed at the action. "I wasn't actually asleep"
"What- what did you hear?" She silently cursed his stealthy, Hermes abilities.
"Everything," He turned his body so he was facing her. "and by the way, I'll keep Miranda's crush a secret"
Crap
"I have a lot of questions about that but I wanna talk to you about something"
Styx, here it comes
"Katie, why didn't you tell me?" His usual wayward grin was now replaced by a heartfelt expression.
"I don't know" She avoided eye contact with him.
"How long have you been feeling that way?"
She shrugged timidly, trying not to show tears "Just a while"
There was a pause before Travis found the right words to say.
"You know if it makes you feel any better, you probably aren't the first demigod to think that" Travis tried to reason with his girlfriend
"But- it's just.. I really wanted to leave Trav" She put her head in her hands. "But, I didn't wanna leave you, I know camp's your home"
Travis' heart broke at the words. He loved her so much that words couldn't even describe how much he did. He knew that being with her was right. She couldn't leave him or he would break. But she was wrong, camp wasn't his home. Home was wherever she was.
"I love you Katie" He cradled her head with his hand and pulled her into his chest "I'll always be there for you, you know that right?"
She nodded.
"And you know if you leave camp, I'm definitely coming with you" A grin formed on his face.
Katie let out a halfhearted laugh "I would never ask you to leave, you love it here"
"I love you more"
She could feel her face turn red at the comment. Travis let out a chuckle and cupped her face, bringing her closer for a kiss.
They pulled away and smiled at each other. Both of them knew whatever happened, they were gonna be there for each other. Always.

"Hey Sherman" Miranda walked into the Ares cabin "Katie said you wanted to see me?"
Miranda saw Sherman leaning on the doorway of the bathroom. "She did?"
"Yeah" She shut the door behind her. "but she didn't specify about what"
Sherman furrowed his eyebrows and ran a hand through his hair. Miranda prayed to the gods that she wasn't blushing. "I didn't ask Katie to come get you, but since you're here, I wanna tell you something"
He headed towards his bed, sat down and motioned for Miranda to sit next to him. She obliged and signaled him to keep talking.
"I haven't told anyone this yet" Sherman started "Me and Ciara broke up"
"What?" Miranda asked trying to hide the smile on her face, but failing miserably "She dumped you?"
"No, it was pretty mutual" Sherman shrugged "and why are you smiling?" He said slightly amused
"Nothing" She silently thanked Demeter that Sherman wasn't mad at her for grinning at his breakup. "But why though?"
"I don't know, we talked and we both agreed that we're better off as friends." Sherman explained
"Well, I'm sorry to hear that" though Miranda really wasn't.
"Well, don't be." Sherman stood up from his bed "The Sherman Yang is single again!"
They both leg out a laugh. Sure he was an Ares kid, but he wasn't always tough, he always had a funny, soft side to him.
"Come on," Sherman opened the door and signaled for Miranda to walk out first "let's eat lunch, I'm starving"
She walked out the door and Sherman couldn't help but smile and think
'Maybe what he's been looking for in a girl was right in front of him'
