Pitter-patter
I sat near my window sill,
And listened to the rain.
The pitter-patter on the roof
Brings rhythm to my pain.
Slowly, as it falls,
I settle into bed,
Watching shadows on the wall,
As thoughts of you dance inside my head.
The tear rolling down my cheek,
Fell softly to the floor,
My eyes grew heavy and weak
As I prayed for nothing more.
For instead, I wished for the pieces of my soul to mend,
So my broken heart can love, and my mind can defend.
The pitter-patter goes on,
As I drift away to dreamland.
Hoping I don't dream of you,
And my sadness can end.
But even my dreams fail me,
As you are always there
And my mind can never rest peacefully,
Because you are everywhere.
I slowly begin to awaken,
My dreadful, heavy eyes.
The shadows disappear,
And the sun begins to rise.
The pitter-patter on the roof
Fell silent in the day,
And the warmth of the sun
Says I'll be okay.
Knowing you was wonderful
But I'm afraid you must go.
Before the night returns,
And the sun sinks low.
So away you went in such accord to how I feel,
You did exactly what I asked.
Now, maybe my heart can heal.
Maybe one day things will change,
And we'll be different then.
And I'll be able to hold you close,
But for now you must go my friend.
You miss me, I know that you do.
But the pitter-patter will return,
And so will my thoughts of you.
