Ch.28 Kaido

~Y/n pov~

"I'm gonna come rescue you!" Luffy yelled to the teary eyes Momo, "Because you're my friend."

Tears rolled down Momo's cheeks as he nodded.

Jimbei shot out of the water, destroying one of the ships.

Luffy stared at him wide eyed.

I smiled, "I told you he'd come."

Luffy grinned and jumped over to Jimbei, hugging him tightly.

Jimbei laughed cheerily.

"Jimbei!"

He climbed onto the ship with Luffy still clinging to him, "Everyone! I'm a crew member of the Sunny from today."

"A former warlord is our teammate. How reassuring." Usopp grinned.

"You really made me worried." Luffy looked at Jimbei with a scolding expression.

"Sorry." Jimbei smiled, "I had to take care of some injured members of the Sun pirates, and the farewell party for me was a blast, so I couldn't leave it."

"But it's really nice to see you again." Nami grinned.

"I'm looking forward to travelling with you!"

Jimbei grabbed the helm as Nami and Chopper praised his steering skills.

Franky smirked, "Someone who can tap into the dream ship's potential finally appeared..."

"This is a great ship." Jimbei stated.

"Thanks."

Luffy smiled happily and clung to my arm, watching Jimbei steer the ship.

"Hey! Luffy!"

Our conversation was interrupted as we turned to Kin'emon.

"I want to discuss what we will do after we reach Onigashima!" Kin'emon yelled to us, "Come here!"

Luffy completely ignored him, "I smell food."

The others seemed to be discussing a plan while our crew sailed towards the smell of food and booze as Luffy and Zoro claimed to have smelt it.

Zoro smirked as we got closer, "It seems like they have nice booze."

"How can you smell it from that far away?" I glanced at him with a judging expression.

The beast pirates started to fire at us but we managed to avoid it with Jimbei's skilful steering.

"Destroy their gun battery." Jimbei instructed.

I watched as the monster trio charged in.

Once we got to shore, the rest of us hopped off the ship and started fighting.

Nami, Usopp and Chopper stayed on the ship, cowering behind the railing.

It wasn't hard to take out all the guards.

Though I assumed it wouldn't be long until they would start to notice.

"Good job, you guys!" Nami, Usopp and Chopper praised from the boat.

"You could've at least helped!" Franky yelled at them.

"Let's have a toast!" Luffy laughed.

I wasn't even surprised when Luffy and Zoro grabbed the food and alcohol and started eating and drinking.

Even at a time like this... so carefree.

I watched as the rest of the ships started to catch up.

Luffy climbed on top of the rubble and waved to them, "Kin'emon, we found the enemies!"

"We should stay here until the rest caught up." I suggested, "Charging in without a plan is reckless, though knowing Luffy that's exactly what will happen."

"All he thinks about is booze and swords." Sanji complained when he saw Zoro carrying a barrel of booze.

~*~

Kin'emon and his men all raised their swords excitedly.

"After we win let's have the biggest banquet!" Luffy lifted his hands up to exaggerate.

Isn't that what we always do?!

We all slammed our cups down.

"Let's follow the samurai!"

~*~

Kin'emon stepped onto the shore and turned to face us all, "Go ashore quickly but quietly!"

All of the guards had fallen asleep after drinking copious amounts of alcohol.

The warriors all rushed onto the shore, splitting up to execute the plan.

Kin'emon gave us all disguises so we could try and blend in.

We all had horns and similar outfits to the beast pirates.

Luffy grinned, "Cool!"

"Once you take them off or tear them it will turn back to our kimono." Kin'emon warned us before walking off to join his men.

I watched as they all charged forwards.

"Okay, let's go!" Luffy instructed.

As soon as he said that he noticed Kid had walked ahead.

"Hey, Jaggy!"

Luffy ran off.

I sighed and ran after him.

"Wait!" Zoro yelled after Luffy.

I glanced behind me at Zoro before continuing after Luffy.

Zoro will probably end up getting lost but we can find him again... probably.

I should concentrate on keeping Luffy out of trouble.

Luffy has just kept running forward, ignoring everyone else as we became isolated from them.

There were loud noises and cheers.

A party?

Luffy stopped in his tracks and stared in confusion.

I slowed to a stop beside him and grabbed his wrist to stop him from running away from me, panting to try and catch my breath.

"Stop running off." I sighed.

Luffy grinned at me, "It's fine because you're here."

He wriggled his wrist out of my hold and intertwined his hand with mine.

There were a bunch of drunk pirates in front of us.

"What now, genius?" I asked Luffy.

"Jaggy!" He yelled.

"Don't yell." I scolded him quietly.

These pirates may be drunk out of their mind but we still don't want to draw attention to ourselves.

I gently tugged on Luffy's hand and pulled him throw the crowd, weaving our way through.

We should at least keep moving forward.

Luffy suddenly paused, making me stop and stare at him.

He had noticed some food being handed out.

He stood there drooling.

I wrapped my arm around his waist and scooped him up, lifting his feet slightly off the ground and carrying him with me.

He eventually snapped out of it but didn't ask to be put down.

Instead, he clung to me.

I watched as the drunk men wasted soup and poured it everywhere while laughing obnoxiously.

Turning to look at Luffy, I noticed his pissed facial expression as he let go off me and marched over to them, beating them up.

I noticed a building slice in half.

It wasn't as hard as I thought to find Zoro.

He had a pissed facial expression too, probably having also witness what happened.

So much for sneaking in and not getting attention.

The beast pirates surrounded us and started to fight after seeing their fellow pirates beat up.

Luffy started to run.

Zoro grabbed my hand and tugged me along, "C'mon."

I sighed as we ran away from the pirates, knocking down any of them that stood in our way.

We eventually stopped in a bigger clearing, turning to face the hoard of pirates.

These disguises are useless now.

It's obvious who we are.

~*~

We made a run for the castle, escaping the big group of pirates.

Luffy used Haki to knock the people at the entrance out.

I glanced at the steps, "He must be quite far from here."

"I'll cut off Straw Hat's head!"

We looked up to see men jumping down from the balcony above us with their weapons raised.

Luffy glared at them, using haki to knock them out mid fall.

All four of them fell to the ground unconscious.

"There they are." Another crowd ran towards us.

Luffy smirked, "Let me practice more with you guys."

I stayed back as Luffy did his thing.

Luffy punched pirate after pirate, complaining about how something wasn't quite right.

There was a sudden loud noise as something came tumbling down the stairs.

We both turned to stare at the two people who had fallen down the stairs.

The girl glared at us, her mask covering her mask and nose.

"Who are you?"

"Who are you?" Luffy repeated her question.

The then looked down at the man she was laid on, "Pay-Pay! Are you okay?!"

She lifted him up and hugged him tightly to her chest as she fretted over him in a cutesy voice.

Luffy stared at them with a stunned expression.

The commotion alerted more of the beast pirates as we became surrounded again.

She threw the dude aside and glared at us, "How could you do this to Pay-Pay?!"

"You're the one who fell down the stairs and flattened him." I told her bluntly as she glared at me angrily.

"Liar! Don't bully my Pay-Pay!" She growled before turning to glance at the broken stairs, "No I didn't do anything! What unit are you in?"

"No. They're intruders." The masked man interjected.

"What?! Who the hell are you?!" She yelled.

As expected, Luffy answered truthfully.

"I'm Luffy. The man who'll become King of the Pirates."

There was a silence for a few moments.

"Do you know who's castle this is?! Kaido will become King of the Pirates." She screamed, kicking a rock at us and charging at Luffy, head butting him.

I shielded my face as a power surge of energy came off them.

The floor crumbled as they were both pushed away from each other.

It knocked some of the men surrounding us out.

I grabbed Luffy's arm and pulled him up.

I watched as they both transformed into dragons.

I heard someone call them Ulti and Page one.

Ulti had a more humanoid form than Page one.

"That hurt!" Luffy yelled.

Luffy started fighting with Ulti as I stopped anyone from interfering with the fight.

I turned to look at Luffy in surprise as Ulti transformed again and grabbed Luffy.

Loud footsteps travelled towards us as someone leapt up and bashed Ulti on the head.

Who's that?

They were wearing a mask and had turquoise coloured hair, a massive club in their hands.

I stood beside Luffy, glancing at him to make sure he was okay.

The person who'd smacked Ulti walked towards us.

"Straw Hat Luffy. Elemental Y/n. It's you isn't it?" Their voice suddenly turned feminine as they scooped us both up and started to run.

"What are you doing?!" Luffy grumbled, hugging me close to his chest and trying to wiggle out of their hold as we were chased after.

"Sorry. I'm not trying to hurt you." They apologised as Luffy stopped wiggling.

"Let us go." Luffy said stubbornly.

"I've been waiting for you. All this time. My name is Yamato. I'm Kaido's son." He introduced himself.

Is he on our side? He honestly seemed like a female at first but maybe I was wrong.

That's not really important when he's kidnapping us though.

Luffy glared at him distrustfully while holding me tightly.

I relaxed my tense body and melted into Luffy.

Well, at least I don't have to run.

~*~

Yamato finally placed us down after Luffy started struggling again.

"Where are you taking us?!" Luffy demanded, "I've got no time for a stranger."

"Wait, I just wanna talk." Yamato told us.

"Get out of my way!"

Yamato blocked his punch, "Listen to what I have to say. People can hear us. I want to to talk in private."

"No." Luffy responded but his punch was blocked again.

"Luffy, calm down. Maybe we should hear him out." I told Luffy.

I was waiting for Luffy to protest stubbornly but he just sighed.

"Fine."

I nodded at Yamato, "Lead the way."

He ran in front of us and lead us through the halls until we reached a quiet spot.

Luffy sat down on the floor, pulling me down beside him.

"You have five minutes." Luffy stated as Yamato sat down opposite us.

"One day, I told my father that I wanted to become Kozuki Oden." Yamato told us seriously, "My father kicked my butt."

"Why should I care?" Luffy responded.

"Twenty years ago, I witnessed Oden's execution... the legendary hour. There was no samurai as great as him. The ones who killed him were Orochi and my father." Yamato explained, clenching his fists, "That was frustrating... But more than that, I was deeply moved and couldn't stop crying."

Yamato stood up and pulled a journal out of his pocket.

"It's Kozuki Oden's log book." Yamato told us excitedly and talked about Oden's adventures at sea.

Yamato pulled off his disguise.

Why is she referring to herself as he?

It was clearly a girl as I had first thought.

"Let me fight alongside you!" Yamato told us.

Luffy narrowed his eyes at her.

"You said you were Kaido's son." I stated.

"Kozuki Oden was a man, right?! So I became a man, too." Yamato explained as if it was normal.

"You don't need a man to become powerful." I told her bluntly, "And you don't need to become Kozuki Oden. Aim higher."

"Higher?" Yamato smiled.

~*~

Big mom laughed, "It has begun."

Momo was tied up above us, guard by King and Queen.

We had all ended up in the same place again.

Shinobu climbed down to free Momonosuke while we battled the pirates who were racing towards us.

She wasn't quick enough and was caught.

King grabbed her by the head and found her towards the ground.

She managed to gain awareness and land safely, despite hitting her head.

At that moment, Momo's chains broke.

He started flying forward while yelling about how he was scared.

"I'll execute you." King moved beside him and moved to kick him.

It was blocked by Shinobu.

~*~

We were swarmed by lots of enemies but we managed to beat them up or run away.

At the moment, Kin'emon and his fellow samurai are fighting Kaido.

Big Mom is here too, which is bad.

It seems like they have an alliance.

She's also really pissed at us.

I ran behind Luffy as he sped off in the direction he thought Kaido was, yelling as he ran.

~*~

Kaido had beaten Kin'emon and the other samurai, luckily they had managed to escape with their lives.

When we arrived to the battlefield, Law, Kid, Killer and Zoro did too.

Both of the emperors were together.

The battle starts now.

~*~

I got out of there with Zoro and Law, leaving Luffy alone with Kaido.

Zoro was badly injured.

We ended up mid air.

"Oh crap! I switched us with some flying object." Law grumbled, grabbing onto Zoro to stop his injuries getting worse.

Sanji, who was stood below us, looked up at us in bewilderment, "Y/n??!! I'll catch you."

He completed ignored the other two.

We all fell together crashing into Sanji as he managed to catch us without falling over.

"What's this all about?" He asked.

Our attention was drawn elsewhere by a whiny voice, "Mama, where are you?"

"Zeus. Where's Nami? I thought you were working with her??" Sanji asked, confusion evident in his voice.

Zeus yelped and ran away.

I jumped down and brushed off my clothes.

"Why are you still on my shoulder?!" Sanji yelled at Law.

Law ignored him, "I moved us to the right place."

"No you didn't." Sanji retorted, "Where did you guys come from?"

Law turned to look at Sanji, "Look after him."

And with that, he was gone.

"What happened?" Sanji asked before realising Law was already running away.

"He has at least twenty broken bones. Give him a back splint."

"I'm not a doctor!" Sanji yelled after him.

"Let's go." I stated.

Sanji jumped in surprise, turning to face me, "Are you okay?"

"Yeah. We should help Zoro."

Sanji sighed, "I guess I have no choice."

He continued to carry Zoro as I walked in front of him, looking for an empty room.

I slid open a door and found an empty office.

"This should be fine."

I pulled a heap of bandages out of my pocket, "Law gave me these. Go find a big piece of wood we can use as a splint."

"Yes." Sanji went running off after placing Zoro down on the floor.

Zoro turned his eyes to look at me, "Are you really okay? Don't lie to me."

I smiled weakly, "So you realised?"

My chest heaved as I coughed, blood spewing out of my mouth and down my chin.

Zoro's eyes widened, "I guess it didn't go away after all...."

"Don't move." I spluttered, holding him down to make sure he didn't try and getting up.

"Eh?? Y/n?!!" Sanji stood there in shock, dropping the wood he was holding, "What happened?!"

I wiped the blood off my face with my sleeve, avoiding eye contact, "It's nothing."

Sanji frowned but didn't push it further, "Just stay there."

He began to work on bandaging Zoro, not letting me help.

"Do you even know how to apply bandages?" Zoro grumbled as Sanji wrapped an excessive amount of bandages around Zoro, making him look like a cactus.

"It's the same as trussing ham." Sanji stated as he finished tying the bandages, "Who could hurt you like this?"

"Kaido and Big Mom."

"No wonder...Is Luffy okay?" He addressed the last question to both of us.

"Do you even have to ask?" I smiled, "Knowing him, he'll be just fine."

Sanji smiled back.

I stood up, "We should head to the performance floor. That's where all the loud noise is coming from."

Sanji lifted up Zoro, "Let's go."

We met up with some of the samurai as we ran towards the plaza.

Zoro fell asleep almost instantly as Sanji whined about having to carry him.

~*~

My head perked up as an announcement was made.

"Announcement to all of Onigashima! The duel is over. The man with the highest bounty amongst the enemies, Straw hat Luffy, has been defeated!"

I don't believe that. After everything he's done and all the people he had defeated... I refuse to believe that he's lost.

"Kaido choked the life out of him... and Straw hat Luffy sank to the bottom of the dark nighttime sea! Both the Kozuki samurai and the captain lost. Who's next? Can anyone else win?!"

I stop listening to the rest of the announcements.

We need to keep fighting. I hope no one loses hope.

"Screw that!" Sanji and Zoro yelled in unison, snapping me out of my thoughts.

I smiled, "Let's hurry."

"Right." Sanji agreed.

As we continued running, the end of the hallway came into sight.

Sanji jumped up, his leg setting on fire as he broke down the door and charged towards Queen.

I landed beside Chopper as Queen and Perospero went flying.

Chopper looked down, tears streaming down his face.

"Chopper... don't worry about Luffy. That reckless idiot will be okay. He always is." I smiled as Chopper looked at me with teary eyes.

"Y/n! Sanji!"

"Well done on holding out, Chopper." Sanji stated, "Don't cry. How many times have we seen miracles?"

Queen stood back up and roared angrily.

"Hold him." Sanji shoved Zoro into Chopper's arms.

"Eh? What happened to him?" Chopper stared at Zoro's bandaged body.

"Once he recovers he'll have the strength of ten men." Sanji stated, pointing his cigarette at Zoro.

"Two thousand men." Zoro retorted.

"Leave the dinosaur to me." Sanji puffed out smoke.

Marco landed beside up, out of breath, "That's why I like you guys..."

I coughed, trying to hide my face with my hand as blood dribbled down my chin.

My injuries were finally catching up with me.

Glancing around, I tried to discreetly wipe the blood of my face.

Chopper noticed, "It still hasn't gotten better... has it?"

I smiled sadly, "It's been better now that I'm stronger but it hasn't gone away."

"I see." Chopper stared at the ground with a distant look, "You should rest."

The blue nosed reindeer placed Zoro's body down gently, standing in front of it to try and protect him as he recovered, before shooting a look at me as if to tell me to go rest beside Zoro.

I smiled tiredly, my whole body aching as I made my way over to them, sitting down next to Zoro.

"Luffy is alive! He is talking to me and saying he will be back." Momonosuke's voice yelled, "So keep fighting."

I knew it.

Zoro was staring at me, his body unable to move, "Lie down."

I complied and laid down beside him, my eyes feeling heavy.

Rolling over, I curled up close to Zoro, being careful not to injure him further.

Closing my eyes, I concentrated on the sound of Zoro's soft breaths, drowning out the loud noises.

Before I knew it, I was succumbing to sleep.

~*~

The sound of clashing bodies and swords was loud as the fight went on around us. My body ached and was bruised from the earlier battle but I would have to push through it.

After sleeping for a bit, Zoro woke up and stood, ready to fight.

I was glad I had rested a bit as it had slightly energised me.

Marco had protected us from King who had appeared a few moments before Zoro awoke.

Sanji and Zoro both worked together to fight King. They didn't need my help.

I focused on protecting Chopper in his weakened form and fending off any attacks that came our way.

Anyone still brave enough to fight us were taken down by me.

"You didn't have to do that. Why don't you sleep forever?" Sanji complained as he jabbed his finger at Zoro.

"Isn't it too much for you to fight two at once?" Zoro questioned.

"No way."

~*~

Zoro and King's fight no longer took place on the performance floor as they went flying and disappeared somewhere.

I was a bit worried because of Zoro's injuries but I knew he could win. The condition of his body after the fight is what worries me.

Sanji was getting badly injured or should've been getting badly injured but the attacks didn't seem to damage his body.

I watched in horror with Chopper as Sanji's disfigured body easily snapped back in shape as if nothing happened.

Sanji seemed startled by the way his body was behaving.

Maybe his body has been altered just like his family's has. That must be difficult for him.

A sudden explosion cut off my train off thoughts as flames consumed the surrounding buildings.

The whole castle is on fire.

I don't know how long it's been on fire but the fire has spread rapidly.

Using my flames, I tried to stop the fire spreading any further and harming anyone in my sight.

However, there were still people inside.

I should try my best to put the fire out.

While using my flames, I surrounded my hands in water and started blasting at the fire.

The fire was so big and the flames so out of control that it seemed to have little effect.

I knew that I had to keep trying.

A mud wall appeared behind me, stopping any attacks from behind.

Using both elements at the same time was draining my energy rapidly.

It took me a while to realise Sanji and Queen had disappeared.

Sanji and Zoro are strong so I know they'll win. I just have to do what I can and try to stop the fire from causing anymore damage.

There were crumbling sounds and thunks as big chunks came falling down from the ceiling, parts of it caving in.

"The roof is cracking!" Someone exclaimed.

"First the castle's on fire and now the dome isn't stable."

Big Mom appeared on the performance floor, followed by Law and Kid.

They looked injured but surprisingly Big Mom was just as injured, if not more.

Despite that, she was still really powerful and people were running in fear, not wanting to face her wrath.

"Hera, take me to the roof."

Law flicked his hand, his sword growing in size and jabbing Big Mom through the chest and face.

She let out a pained shriek.

Kid gathered up metal and pinned Big Mom down with his creation.

"We're not letting you go to the roof." They both yelled.
Thanks to my efforts, there was no longer fire on the performance floor but the surrounding buildings were still on fire.

The news that all the lead performers were defeated had already reached here.

Just by looking at the sheer determination on Law and Kid's faces, I already knew the outcome of the battle so I didn't stick around to find out.

"Y/n, where are you going?" Chopper yelled after me as I ran into the burning building.

Now that almost all the fights were over, everyone was focused on putting out the fires so it should be fine.

"Don't worry about me, just concentrate on putting out the fire. I'm going to find Zoro." I called out to Chopper before the flames blocked him out of sight.

I surrounded my body with my own flames to prevent the fire leaving burns on my skin.

Zoro.. please be alright.

~*~

Zoro was laid unconscious in a pool of his own blood.

Tears threatened to spill from my eyes as I thought the worst, my brain filled with what ifs.

I sped over to him and knelt beside him, not caring if I got blood on my clothes.

Placing my hands underneath his body, I let out a deep breath before lifting him up.

Zoro's breathing was soft and steady as his head fell to rest on my shoulder.

I smiled in relief and headed to the performance floor as fast as I could.

It seemed like Usopp and Franky had the same idea.

Usopp was carrying an unconscious Sanji.

~*~

I stared at the three unconscious members of our crew with worry, not even realising how injured and strained my own body was.

"Y/n!" Nami yelled as the world faded to black.
