Ch.26 Elephant

~Y/n pov~

I sighed as Luffy started rambling to everyone about Shanks and they hung on to his every word.

He then talked about how the start of our adventures went.

They all seemed on edge as my listened intently.

I was unsure of when we were going to see the others again and the Thousand Sunny.

We're heading to the next island so we'll probably catch up at some point.

Zoro slept on my shoulder soundly, his arms clinging to my waist.

I don't want to listen to Luffy talk about things I've already experienced.

I decided to try and get some sleep myself.

~*~

I woke up to hear yelling.

"I can see something big! It's moving."

Zoro had woken up by now but still stayed sat next to me as I slept on him.

I peered through the fog and saw a huge figure.

As we got closer it started to look like a massive elephant.

It looked like it had houses on top of it.

"Zou is always moving so it'll never be at the same location." Law explained.

"Wait.. that things alive?!" Luffy exclaimed as he stared at the colossal (titan) elephant.

"So we were chasing an elephant that's moving away." Robin stated.

"Yeah." Law replied, "Get ready to make landfall."

Kin'emon sighed, "I wonder if Momonosuke is okay..."

As we got closer, I noticed the Sunny right next to one of the elephants legs.

I guess it didn't take long to catch up with them.

"The Sunny." Luffy grinned.

"That's the grand ship that carried the sacred bodies of the Straw Hats." Bartolomeo looked at it in awe, his eyes watering, "I feel blessed."

"I guess they got away from Big Mom safely. There's no major damage." Franky observed.

Luffy called out their names to catch their attention.

There was no response.

How did we know they were even on the ship?

Luffy stretched his arm out and for on the Sunny.

The elephants leg started to move, pulling the Sunny with it.

The water grew choppy as waves violently rocked the ship.

"Hey, keep up with it!" Bartolomeo yelled as he created some stairs between both ships.

We climbed over the stairs onto the Sunny.

No one was here as I suspected.

"They probably went to Zou." I pointed out.

"Yeah? Then let's catch up!" Luffy cheered excitedly.

How exactly do we get up?

I stared up at the ginormous elephant.

Kanjuro started to draw something on the ground.

"A snake?" Luffy's question was ignored.

We watched as he drew a long creature. A dragon spirit?

"What is this?" Luffy asked.

"Appear, rising dragon." Kanjuro stated after doing some weird gestures and waving his arms around.

The dragon seemed to gain colour and came off the floor, coming to life.

It was mostly pink with spots of orange.

"Cool." Luffy gaped at it.

"Dragon." It said.

Robin smiled, a blush on her cheeks as she stared at it.

I already know what's she's thinking.

"Some pathetic creature appeared." Usopp exclaimed as he stared at it.

The dragon walked unsteadily and flopped its body against the leg of the elephant.

"Alright everyone. Climb on, it's gonna climb up." Kanjuro instructioned.

"Isn't it gonna fly?!" Usopp looked at him incredulously.

Luffy laughed, "Let's go."

~*~

The dragon moved painfully slowly up the elephants leg.

We were vertical so I was surprised no one had fallen off.

If I fall off I'll drown.

I clung tightly to the dragon as it stretched its tiny arm in front of it before placing it down:

We'd barely moved and were still at the bottom.

"Good! Keep going, Dragon!" Luffy encouraged the dragon from in front of me.

He was clinging to its horns.

The dragons body shook as if it could fall at any moment.

My body slipped slightly, startling me.

An arm wrapped around my waist, securing me in place.

I looked behind me to see Zoro sending me a reassuring smile.

It didn't reassure me.

He's only holding on with one hand...

We're gonna die.

My thoughts were confirmed when the dragon slipped and we went plummeting towards the ground.

Usopp shrieked loudly.

"You can do it, dragon!" Luffy yelled.

Usopp looked so relieved when it stopped falling.

It's arms trembled.

We were back at where we begun.

I guess we'll never make it to the top.

Kin'emon and Kanjuro started talking about another one of their friends who they were looking for.

They'd talked about a ninja.

We looked up and saw something falling towards us.

A monkey?

We all ducked it avoid it.

Kin'emon was unluckily as it hit him and he was thrown off the dragon along with Kanjuro.

They both went plummeting towards the sea.

They can't swim, can they?

"Do you think they'll drown?" I asked.

"Don't ask something like that!" Usopp screeched.

A few moments later, they shouted up to us telling us they're okay and they'd catch up.

The dragon's eyes glistened with tears as it pulled us up.

It's upper body came off the elephants leg as it flailed about.

It'll be a miracle if we make it to the top.

Usopp screamed as we were turned upside down.

I clutched on tightly, trying not the fall off.

Arms wrapped around my legs, holding me in place.

I turned to look at Robin and shot her a grateful look while she smiled.

"I'm gonna fall! Help, Robin." Usopp screamed as he clung on.

Robin laughed, "Good luck."

"What?!"

I noticed it's bottom legs started to slip.

Usopp decided to name it Ryunosuke and now everyone was calling it.

"I can't hold on any longer." Usopp cried.

Ryunosuke managed to get his upper body back onto the elephants leg.

~*~

After what felt like an eternity, we finally made it to the top.

I'm surprised we made it.

"Ryunosuke, good job!" Everyone cheered as he turned back into a drawing.

Franky, Luffy and Usopp started crying dramatically when he turned back into a drawing.

He's a drawing....

I turned to look at the walls in front of us.

So this is the entrance.

There were towers and gates but no one was guarding them.

Luffy didn't wait for anyone and flung himself over.

We had to make it through this creepy looking forest first.

"So scared." Usopp cried, clinging to my arm as we walked.

This massive creature appeared, someone appeared to be riding it.

"It's the minks clan." Law stated.

They're a clan that hate humans.

She glared at us, "Intruders."

Usopp stared at her in shock.

"Let's go." She pulled the reins as her friend got onto the creature, "We don't have time to transport you guys. Do as I say! Go through the Rightrump forest to your right and turn left at a deep dark swamp! And you'll reach the Rightflank Forest! You'll find the corpse of your friend there!"

"Corpse?" I asked as she sped away, "Is she talking about Brook?"

"You're right." Usopp agreed, "But why is she helping us?"

"Are they really a cannibal tribe? We need to check these things out." Robin told us calmly.

"Why are you so obsessed with cannibal tribes?!" Usopp screamed.

Law reached into his pocket and pulled out a piece of paper, "I have a vivre card of one of my crew mate. Let's head straight."

So we're ignoring what they told us?

~*~

We made it to a destroyed city.

There were slanted buildings that had fallen and rubble everywhere.

Parts of buildings were missing and no one was here.

"It's dangerous! This country's dangerous!" Usopp screamed.

Robin opened the door to one of the houses and walked in.

I followed her and found that there was still food in the pans.

"They must've left abruptly." I stated, "I wonder what happened."

Robin pulled me along as she continued to inspect the place.

There were claw marks on the building.

"Come see this." Law stated.

We walked over and saw a massive footprint.

There was a circular shape sunken into the ground.

"Did some monsters and beasts attack the Minks' country?" Law asked as we all ignored Usopp's screaming.

The ground started to rumble.

What's happening? An earthquake?

There was a distance sound of rushing water.

"I can hear water." I stated.

"Let's get somewhere high." Robin stated as she entered one of the buildings.

We all hurriedly ran to the top and peered down.

Water came rushing through the town.

"It's flooding!" Usopp yelled.

A shark jumped out of the water making Usopp screech.

"Sea water?" Robin placed her hand in the water, "Maybe that was the giant elephant spraying water on itself."

"That seems inconvenient. Who would live here?" I commented.

"Seems like this happens to every day." Robin concluded.

"We must get out of here quickly." Usopp stated as he looked into the distance, "Hey, there's Luffy! At the edge of the town!"

~*~

We managed to catch up with Luffy.

"Hey, Luffy! Where were you bitten?! Do you still have your limbs?!" Usopp interrogated him while standing behind us for protection.

The dog woman shook her head, "I can't believe it. I think you have the wrong idea. But that's okay. We're here now. Look through the fog..."

I turned to look and saw some shadows.

"There are guards and a gate to the fortress." She continued.

They all jumped off that creature and greeted the guards.

The guards eventually complied and let us in.

"They're important guests." The dog woman informed everyone when we made it through the gates.

There were the minks clan everywhere.

They seemed more friendly than the rumours say.

Chopper and Nami came running towards us.

"Oh, look! That's Nami and Chopper!" Usopp pointed out.

"You guys." They called while running towards them.

Chopper jumped into Usopp's arms while Nami squished me and Luffy in a hug.

Sanji, Brook and Momo weren't here.

"Where are the others?" Luffy asked.

Nami seemed to freeze, "Sorry. Sanji is...."

I wrapped my arms around her and rubbed her back while she cried.

~*~

Like always, we had some sort of celebration for being reunited.

Brook arrived and told us Momo was also here.

So it's just Sanji we're missing.

"Could you tell us everything in detail, Nami?" Robin asked, "What happened to your group since you left Dressrosa eleven days ago?"

"What we encountered that day off the coast of Dressrosa was the Big Mom Pirates' enormous singing ship!" Nami began, "Their combatants that we could identify were the duo that Luffy met on the Fish-man island. And another one... He's one of the worst generation Capone Gang Bege."

"Bege?"

"Seems like they became Big Mom's subordinates. They came for Caesar but he was more scared of them." Nami explained, "But, frankly speaking, we had no chance to get away from them. And we knew they'd take us down if nothing was done!"

She explained most of what had happened but never told us what happened to Sanji.

~*~

"Yes, the first time in a month and a half since Bepo and the others arrived, the visitor's bell rang all over the Mokomo Dukedom." Wanda told us, "But that was.... The seldom-heard Raiding bell! Cutting up the forest along the way, the enemy invaded our peaceful city. Feeling such unusual movement, Zunesha roared."

"Who were they? What did they want?!" Usopp asked.

"If our vicious enemies want something that we don't have,  how can we give it to them?" She avoided the question by asking another, "They wanted someone named Raizo."

Isn't Raizo Kin'emon's friend?

They're all from Wano, right?

"Did Kaido's subordinates attack?" I asked to confirm my suspicions.

Wanda frowned, "That's right. They insisted we hand him over but we didn't have him. The attack continued and we fled."

"So that's why everybody moved to the Rightflank Fortress here." Robin stated.

"That's right. Those who could walk helped those who couldn't and carried them here."

Wanda turned and led us over a wooden bridge.

Luffy sighed and placed his arms behind his head, "That ninja Kin'emon talked about isn't here."

Usopp gaped at him, finally making the connection.

The others who didn't know seemed shocked too.

Everyone stopped walking.

"Ninja?" Wanda asked.

Usopp, Brook and Nami started beating Luffy up for saying that so casually.

"You mean a warrior from the Land of Wano?" Wanda continued to ask questions, "Do you know something?"

"We're just teaching him a lesson about minkship." Nami smiled and punched Luffy.

"But I'm sure I heard him say ninja just now."

"He was just asking about how the patient was doing." Brook smiled nervously.

I eventually pulled Luffy away from them, "That's enough now."

"I'm sorry." Nami and Usopp immediately apologised when they saw my annoyed expression.

I turned to look at Brook and stared him down for a few seconds.

Luffy clung to my arm tightly, "Thanks."

His face was swelled from the numerous punched thrown at him.

"It doesn't hurt at all..." He muttered, the tears rolling down his cheeks said otherwise.

I frowned. It feels way too far sometimes.

Zoro grimaced as he glanced at Luffy's swelled face.

Luffy moved closer, resting his cheek against my shoulder as his arms wrapped around my waist.

I wrapped an arm around his waist to steady him and half carried him as he leaned his weight on me.

"Are we almost at the patients house?" Usopp asked.

"Yes, I see Duke's sanatorium already." Wanda responded, "Thank you for coming with me. I'll tell you the rest of the story later."

There was a sudden explosion and yelling.

I looked towards the building as some people went flying.

What is happening?

"What's the matter?" Wanda asked, startled.

"They kept saying sweet things so... I just pushed them off the cliff."

... what?

I stared at the weirdo for a few seconds before he finally let us in.

"What an annoying lion." Luffy stated which made Nami glared at him.

I glared back at Nami so she wouldn't hit Luffy again.

Chopper was there with the patient.

He smiled and waved at us all.

"Duke! I'm so glad you're okay!" Wanda hugged him tightly, tears threatening to spill from her eyes.

It was silent for a few moments.

"Wanda. I'm sorry to make you worry." Duke stated before turning to us, "So you people are the Straw hats?"

"Yeah."

"You saved us in every way. Thank you very much." Duke thanked us.

Luffy grinned, "I heard my crew saved your people but I haven't gotten to hear the whole story yet."

"That straw hat looks good on you." Duke mentioned.

Luffy brought his hand up to touch his hat and looked up at Duke with a confused expression.

"I was once... that cat. I was once travelling across the seas with that one." Duke started with a distant look in his eyes, "Shanks, who is one of the four emperors now, was wearing that kind of hat then."

"What?! Old man, do you know Shanks?! How?!" Luffy asked excitedly, "I got this hat from him and..."

Duke fell down and suddenly fell asleep.

"It's six o'clock." Wanda stated.

"He's not a kid." Usopp yelled in response.

Luffy frowned, "Hey, wake up! Tell me how you know Shanks!"

I held him back so he wouldn't try to smack Duke awake.

"He's injured." Chopper sighed, sending me a grateful look.

Wanda started to explain about the two different rulers.

~*~

I flopped down on the bed with exhaustion.

The minks clan were extremely clingy.

To the point where it makes you uncomfortable.

I sighed and was about to close my eyes when the door was flung open.

Luffy jumped on top of me, making me groan in pain as I was winded.

He smiled down at me and pulled his hat off so it was hanging around his neck.

I shuffled and pulled the blanket over us.

My hand gently playing with Luffy's thick black hair.

Luffy smiled sleepily, "Thank you."

He closed his eyes and drifted off to sleep.

Just when I was about to go to sleep myself, the door opened yet again.

I opened my eyes and tiredly glared at whoever had come in.

Zoro laughed and propped his swords up against the wall.

I huffed and shuffled over, making room for him.

Zoro's arm wrapped around me, pulling me towards his chest.

I curled my body into his, feeling the warmth of both Zoro and Luffy.

This time my sleep wasn't interrupted by the door opening and I fell into a peaceful slumber.

~*~

We all gathered around Wanda as she told us everything that happened.

She told us the whole story.

I watched as she left the room before turning to Nami.

"Tell is the truth about what actually happened to Sanji." I stated.

She smiled nervously as I glared intimidatingly at her.

Nami sighed and finally told us what she had been keeping from us.

We split into two teams.

One team was going to get back Sanji.

The other team was going to infiltrate Wano.

~*~

We all stood together, ready to see off the Sanji retrieval team.

Luffy grinned at me and wrapped his arms around my tightly.

I rested my head on his as he hugged me tightly.

He stayed like that for a while as everyone else was saying their goodbyes.

Luffy turned to look up at me with a pout, "I'll miss you a lot. I love you."

I smiled and kiss his forehead, "I love you too."

Luffy grinned and kissed my cheek before letting go, "Bye!"

He waved until he was out of sight.

~*~

The plan was to sneak into Wano's capital and disguise ourselves until the time came for the others to arrive.

I guess that means we won't see each other for a while.

Zoro gave me one last hug, my head resting on his shoulder.

"Bye." He smiled and turned to walk in the wrong direction.

"You're going the wrong way."

"I knew that!"

I was going to be staying near the shore for when the others would arrive.

~*~

Time had passed.

They still weren't here.

I hope everything went well and they got Sanji back.

I snuck off to the shore like I did everyday.

Trying to see if they had arrived yet.

I was walking through the forest and I heard yelling and loud footsteps.

"Hey, Y/n!"

I turned and saw Luffy with Otama.

They were riding that massive yellow dog like creature she had.

Otama smiled, "Big sis! What are you doing here?"

They stopped next to me.

Luffy's arm stretched out and he pulled me onto the dog.

Otama started excitedly rambling about how she had tamed a beast.

Luffy wrapped his arms around me and hugged me tightly, his head resting against my back.

"I missed you a lot." He muttered, moving his head to my shoulder.

I placed my hands over his and squeezed them, "Me too."

Otama led us back to her house because Luffy told her he was hungry.

"This way." Otama led us somewhere else, "There are pirates I like and pirates I don't like."

"That make no difference to me." Luffy replied.

I sighed tiredly and leaned back, my body relaxing.

Luffy's chest pressed against my back stopped me from falling.

Otama laughed, "You're strong and kind."

We made it to the edge of a cliff.

Otama pointed downwards where the village was, "That's my house."

"There's a village in the mountains?" Luffy asked as he gazed down at it.

"No, it's gone now! Not many people live there." Otama stated, glancing at me, "I'm the future, I'm gonna be a bewitching female ninja!"

Luffy stared at her blankly.

~*~

Otama started cooking some food while we sat and waited.

There's not much food lately so I hope this isn't her only food.

"It's done." Otama grinned, giving Luffy a massive bowl of rice.

Luffy grinned and scoffed it all as Otama watched with a smile, "It's delicious. Aren't you gonna eat?"

Otama seemed surprised as she just smiled, "No, not yet."

I frowned, "Was that your only food?"

She froze and stared at me with surprise.

Luffy was still very obviously hungry.

Otama's stomach rumbled and she ran out the room.

I sighed and went outside to find Otama.

She was sat down, holding her stomach.

I knelt down beside her, "We can go back to my house and get some food."

"Huh, really?! I mean no I'm not hungry." She lied horribly.

There was a sudden commotion.

I looked up to see the master of the house had come back and he was not happy.

"How many days do you think it's been since she ate?" He yelled as Luffy looked at him in surprise.

The rest of the houses in the village were destroyed, expect two.

I stepped in front of the master and bowed as he continued to yell, "I'm sorry. I have some more food at my house if you want me to replace yours."

The man paused in his yelling and stared at me in silence, "Very well. All the water is still polluted."

Luffy frowned, "Then why do you still live here?"

Otama collapsed.

I reached my arms out and managed to catch her before she hit the ground.

"She's waiting here. For someone who promised to come back..." the man trialed off, "He is a pirate named Ace!"

I froze and glanced at Luffy.

Do they not know? Is that why they're still waiting?

He'll never come back...

"Tama..."

She weakly opened her eyes to stare at Luffy.

"The Ace that you're waiting to is..." Luffy continued, "Portgas D. Ace, right? Ace died."

Otama stared at him in disbelief.

"It's true." I added, "If I had known you were waiting for him, I would've told you sooner."

"That's a lie!" Otama screamed, refusing to believe the truth, "You're a liar!"

She started sobbing loudly.

~*~

When Otama had finally calmed down, I took her to my house and started to cook some food.

Why did I have so much food?

I stole it from bad people, of course.

Otama sat beside me in amazement as she stared at the rice and meat.

I smiled and handed her a bowl.

She looked up at me with teary eyes, "Thank you."

I handed a bowl to Luffy and kept one for myself.

I still had more food but I wanted to actually save it.

Food is really important here.

"If you ever get hungry, you can take some food from here." I spoke quietly to Otama.

I knew I wouldn't be staying here any longer.

We were going to go to the capital now.

I dug around in the cupboards and found a red kimono.

Picking it up, I handed it to Luffy.

"Put this on so you'll blend in." I told him, pushing him into the other room.

I watched Otama happily eat the food and place her empty bowl down.

Luffy entered the room with a huge smile, "How do I look?"

I smiled, "It suits you."

The master came back and asked for some rice.

I handed him one of the bags, "I'm not going to stay in this house any longer so you can take what you want."

"Really?! What do you mean?" He asked in confusion.

They fought I was from another village in Wano and had come here for safety.

"Truth is... I'm a pirate. I've been staying here for a little while, waiting for the rest of my crew to arrive." I explained.

"You're a pirate too?!" He exclaimed.

~*~

We set off with Otama.

I'm not sure where we were heading but we exited the forest and ended up in the wasteland.

We'll make it to the main city eventually.

Even though Otama had eaten, she still wasn't well.

She's probably in shock.

I looked in front of us and saw a blue and green blob.

As I got closer I saw Zoro and some random lady who seemed to be thanking him.

"Zoro!" Luffy yelled loudly.

"Y/n! Luffy!" Zoro yelled back as we got closer.

Luffy stretched one arm around my waist and the other towards Zoro.

Oh no.

We both went flying towards him.

Zoro hugged us tightly, managing not to drop us.

Luffy eventually let go as Zoro still held me.

"You've got meat! Give me some."

Zoro sighed, probably expecting this.
